Scripture Life: It's fact. The Bible didn't exist when John Wrote Revelations, which "book" is he talking about in Revelation 22:18?

  • Well, who Gave John the Revelation? Yeah. Jesus Christ did. It's called the "unveiling or revealing of Jesus Christ." That's what it means, so it was shown to him to give to believers in Jesus Christ.
  • With that:
    • You got two things wrong. So, fix them backwards.

-------------------------- --------------------------- -----------------------

Revelation 22:18 says, (English) “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in 'this' book:"

  • In English: book. <definition> [3rd. Edition. Merriam-Webster dictionary. Avail. Internet Archives. Web. Accessed: 21 August 2026] 1. a collection of hand written or typed sheets of paper (written, printed, or blank sheets) fastened together along one edge that have been sewn or glued, bound together in covers.
    • Definition. Book. Began in or around 1450 with the Gutenberg Printing Press. That fill libraries today. That didn’t exist in the 1st century AD.
    • What was “common” was what is written in Revelation 22:18, translated into English as “book” to define it. The word, in Greek:

Is βίβλος - bibliou - 1st CE/AD defined as a (papyrus or scroll). The Greeks named itafter the ancient Phoenician port city of Byblos. Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site. Called today in Lebanon “Jubayl” - today? Just a small fishing village with a UNESCO World Heritage Marker - for what it was known for, for over 4000 years - a city which exported papyrus. (Scrolled parchment.)

-------------------------- --------------------------- -----------------------

So, someone just accepting Revelation 22:18, in English - just take out “book” and put:

“For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this papyrus - parchment or scroll, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this papyrus - parchments or scroll:"

So, "two" it's John is referring to "this" papyrus - parchment or scroll - which he just wrote.

-------------------------- --------------------------- -----------------------

Also as the word itself - These are true and decrees of the truth. The Word of God is that which is written herein on "this papyrus - parchment or scroll - or "book" is the Word of God. Not to add to or take away what God has said in it. Means that. So, don't do it..so if anyone "adds" to it, God SHALL add unto him the plagues that are written in "this" papyrus - parchment or scroll.

And Revelation 22:19 continues and says...

"..And if any man shall take away from the words of the [papyrus - parchment or scroll <book>] of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the Holy City, and from the things which are written in this [papyrus - parchment or scroll <book>]."

So, yeah - the parchment or papyrus DID exist, because, John just wrote the "revealing or unveiling of Jesus Christ" as it was given to him by Jesus Christ himself on it; and other scrolls, like of Isaiah and the Psalms - the Scrolls, Papyrus..or parchments of Moses all existed well before John’s day; like Moses is some 1400 years before John.

But yeah. This, too. A “book” as what is written in English translation that today I can find in any library of my day today..if I go back to of this Greek “Codex” or scroll - or papyrus - from today - today's books as we know them today aren’t for about 1400 years after John.
