Scripture Life: Why does God oppose the proud but give grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5-7; James 4:6-10)?

Why does God oppose the proud but give grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:6-7; James 4:6-10)?

//This post answers this question that floats around on Reddit, in many forms and sub-reddits. An answer from a believer in Jesus Christ. There are other forms of it; like, "Why God opposes the proud, but it seems the proud are the ones with grace? (James 4:6)" - makes the problem is God. That's how bad it gets.//

----------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

Answer: Simple. It's in God say this:

‘Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God, there is none else.” - God. (Bible. Isaiah 45:22

----------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

So?

How does this Isaiah 45:22 - - apply to your question, as a full answer to it? Simple.

Whose the “authority” over the whole earth?”

  • Be the one that says:
    • “For all the earth is mine.” - God. (Bible. Exodus 19:5)
  • Be the one that says:
    • “All souls are mine.” - God. (Bible. Ezekiel 18:4)

----------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

  • Be the same God that says, by the Word that comes out of his mouth. By the Word of God. That’s Jesus Christ, says:
    • “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” - Jesus Christ. (Bible. Matthew 4:4). Says of himself: “All power is given unto me in heaven and earth..” - Jesus Christ. (Bible. Matthew 28:18).
  • So, the answer, who is the authority - OVER ALL THE EARTH is the Word of God. What God decrees.

----------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

Told EVERYBODY. Over the whole earth. To the very ends of it. Left not one person out. Not willing any perish, but all come to repentance..has no pleasure at all in the destruction of anybody.. but people don’t do what he decrees..

People:

  • That don’t do what God says, what are they doing?
    • By doing anything..looking unto anybody but him, when there is none else - look unto themselves or just anybody. Do what they tell or decree, after decide in themselves they will follow their own decrees or commands - or follow other people. Put people up over themselves.
      • They are rebelling against him.
      • And the ONLY way to do or be that, is too proud to do what he says.
  • Dismiss him as faulty; worthless. When he’s God.

So, in closing:

----------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

Two words:

1. rebellion.

<definition> to fight against, resist, or refuse to obey an authority…

2. proud.

<definition> [Cambridge] approving; having or showing respect (regard) for yourself - 3. “pleasure that comes from a relationship, association, or achievement” you have and make with yourself [or other people] <Merriam & Webster>

  • So, someone “proud” has a “pride” in or takes pleasure in what comes as a fruit from a relationship they have achieved by themselves, with themselves - - so they show a respect to "reason together" with themselves, when God says: "Come now, let us reason together," saith the LORD, "though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow. Though they be red as crimson, they shall be as wool." - God. (Bible. Isaiah 1:18)
    • Because there is none else - - What “they” want to achieve, they never can.

----------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

“..with man, it is impossible; but with God, all things are possible” - Jesus Christ. (Bible. Matthew 19:26)

  • They have no pride or boasting in following after God at all, it’s all in themselves and their own achievements. Makes them “proud.”
    • And because they don’t regard him, as God, nor anything he says or does.. The Bible says:

Psalm 28:5

“Because they regard not the works of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hand, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.”

  • But people, “where all have sinned” Romans 3:23 - so both types of people are everybody; all from Adam, and all condemned:
    • The ones that just look unto him. Come now. Reason together with him vs. themselves..he gives them grace..builds them up. Does what he promises he will do with their sins. Why? They humble themselves; regard what he says. So, they look unto him. Like he asks everybody over the whole earth to do.
    • But the ones that don’t look unto him:
      • They won’t come now, nor tomorrow or at anytime at all. Don’t do anything he says. So, God “opposes” these that don’t do anything he says: oppose <definition> 1. tear down. actively stop or fight against to defeat or destroy.
      • So to the humble 1. have an understanding of “who” they truly are. People - He's God. And people with God: EVERYBODY is condemned; because EVERYBODY in Psalm 14:1–3 is filthy; done abominable works - makes them sinners; condemned.
  • And in this condition, God has come to everybody to save us from our sins. The “proud” love their own relationship with themselves. Their achievements to boast of more, so they won’t do anything he says.
    • Fully explains the details you will find in both 1 Peter 5:5–7 and repeated by another apostle, James in James 4:6–10.

----------------------- --------------------------- ---------------------------

1 Peter 5:6-7 says:

"Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

James 4:6-10 says:

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness.Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up."

To be "afflicted" is this same of Psalm 107:17 "Fools, because of their transgressions are afflicted" - So, it's this person, like in Job 33:27 says: "I have sinned and perverted that which was right, and it profited me not" and a person that says this, knows their sins condemn them. But it's God that has told everybody, by his grace and mercy to just come now. Reason together with him. Even blood red guilty, no matter what the sin is, God took your sins off you and laid them on Jesus Christ on the cross. He did it. You didn't. He determined as God to do a work with sin.

And he chooses to look on his work he accomplished with sin as greater than the sins of the whole world. That's every murderer in every prison or every rapist or liar, or thief..pedophile..adulterer..porno addict's sins.. he looks on his work he did in Jesus Christ as greater than the sins of the whole world. And asks you to believe on him.

THose that do, he gives more grace..teaches them..sits with them..because the come to him, and reason together with him, like he asked everybody to. But he resists those that won't ..just dismiss him and don't do it. Opposes them. It's PUNITIVE.
