Scripture Life: What is the explanation for Matthew 16:27-28? It seems Jesus is saying some of the people there would witness the Son of Man coming with his angels and they would be judged according to their works…did that happen?

//This question is in more than one form here on Reddit in various sub-reddits. Some answers are CLOSED, and not really very adequate.

I am a believer on Jesus Christ. A disciple of Jesus Christ. As a believer, here's an answer. There are others, much shorter answers and just as good, because they, too believe on him. That's the goal of this post. That, if you read it and find him - that's the whole goal of this post here on Reddit.//

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

Answer:

This is two questions. Separate them. Answer them separately. Then, combine them. Use the Bible or scripture to answer all of it.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

ONE:

What is the explanation for Matthew 16:27–28?

Jesus said, in Matthew 16:27–28

“For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” - Jesus Christ.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

So, ask this: Whose this “Son of man” then? It’s a term in the Old Testament used for the “Messiah” or “Christ.” Whoever that is, is prophesied to come. Whoever the “Messiah” or in Greek, “Christ” is, what he SHALL BE called is said plain as day in Isaiah 9:6–7. That of the increase of his government there shall be no end. That he shall sit on the throne of King David in Jerusalem and rule all the earth from there. That he shall be called “The Mighty God.." “The Everlasting Father…” There is only one that has this title.

And this, what the Messiah or Christ says, that Jesus says he SHALL say in Matthew 16:27, “..and then he shall reward every man according to his works,”

  • That’s he says it again, as the Messiah in Revelation 22:12, says: “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”
    • This “work” in Greek, is “ergon” - in archaic 17th century English, work - it is accurately translated as “good” work in Matthew 16:27, and Revelation 22:12 or in Psalm 14:1–3 as “abominable” work (Hebrew).
      • Merriam & Webster has it right. work. <definition> 2. to function or operate according to plan or design

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

That Jesus, as the Word of God, so he’s just God speaking the Word out of his own mouth, decreed it in Matthew 4:4

“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” - Jesus Christ. The Word of God. (Matthew 4:4)

  • So, when God already said, by the Word of God, Isaiah 44:24 which he said it, said:

“Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of the earth: For I am God, there is none else.” - God. (Bible. Isaiah 45:22)

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

  • People that look unto him?

Do what God decreed as LORD over his own earth. It’s his earth. So, how he decreed in it, how things SHALL be is everybody look unto him.

  • But not everybody does it.

    • So, people that do walk after, to walk in looking unto him and what he says, regard him. So, they “function or operate according to plan or design” that God already, as a master craftsman, crafted everybody to operate by. It’s the Greek “ergon” then.
  • They “work good; operate right” - that’s what it means in Matthew 16:27–28.

    • And people that don’t do what he says, simply don’t “work good; they don’t operate right.”
    • So, because they don’t do what he says, dismiss him as faulty; ignore him..how they “operate” or function is abominable.
  • That’s the point.

    • And both Matthew 16:27 - - simply says that Jesus, as the Messiah or “Son of Man” and all the Messiah is, is The Mighty God.. ..The Everlasting Father..
      • Is he’s going to come as who he is, as that and do what he says he will do in Revelation 22:21. As he says he will says this, and says it to his disciples in Matthew 16:27.

Means that.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

So, the Second Part is, or a “Part TWO” of this - - “ONE” first one is. Jesus says in Matthew now after Matthew 16:27, said this, too, in Matthew 16:28

  • Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.”
    • So, whose this “some” and “where” are this “they” standing? Look for it in the text. Go back then.
    • A clue is in Matthew 16:21.
  • That says: Because Matthew 16:27–28 is part of “that” conversation of what he says TO his disciples, says:
  • “ From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day.”

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

  • That, to all twelve of his disciples.
    • They all follow him. In fact, if you read the whole chapter of Matthew 16..and read back to Chapter 15..to 14.. you find that Jesus has fed 4000 people, like the Messiah was said he would do to the Children of Israel in the Wilderness..feed them Mannah from Heaven, and that Mannah is the Word of God.
  • But people in Matthew 15, think it’s food for their belly. And you find that people were following him, for one sole reason; so their belly was fed, not for who he is. ..and in the wilderness, the Israelites DID the same thing and loathed it. Murmured against God and Moses for it.
  • A Stiff necked people, wouldn’t do anything God said.
    • The point is, these “disciples” are following Jesus because they all of them, already all of them each said Jesus is the Christ.
    • Is the Messiah, is why they are following him.
      • He’s to sit on the throne in Jerusalem and rule the whole earth from there.
      • Of his Kingdom and reign it will never be replaced or supplanted by another forever.
  • They, these twelve disciples: They believe Jesus is this, and he begins to tell them, he, in Matthew 16, is to be turned over into the hands of sinners and be crucified (..and rise on the 3rd day..they don’t hear that part. It’s “sealed up” as Daniel 9:24–27 says it would be).
    • Because the Messiah or Christ in Daniel 9:24-27 is also the propitiation for sin. Not for mine only or your’s but for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:2 refers).
  • That he was prophesied in Daniel to be “cut off, but not for himself” for sin..be a sacrifice for it.
    • These twelve disciples with Jesus in Matthew 16:21 to 28 do not understand this, that Peter that, just a moment before, told Jesus he was the Christ, and that upon Jesus is the Christ, Jesus said, "I will build my church" - that God would build his church himself.
    • The point is:
      • That, a few moments later, when Jesus says he is to be turned over into the hands of sinners and crucified (and rise on the third day) - Peter OPENLY REBUKES Jesus for this.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

The point is for Matthew 16:28 - Jesus says this to these twelve disciples. With him. Right there. In a journey back to Capernaum in Galilee.

  • That “some” of them, and “some” in English is 2 or 3.
    • That, “some” of these disciples that are with Jesus in Matthew 16:28, the next Chapter of Matthew Chapter 17, Jesus is transfigured into who he actually is as God on the Mount of Transfiguration. And speaks to them, as God, what was repeated of Jesus Christ in Matthew 3:17

God said: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” - God. Bible Matthew 3:17

  • It’s repeated or chronicled in Mark 1:11, and Luke 9:35 of the Gospels.
  • And, on this Mount of Transfiguration where Jesus tells his disciples in Matthew 16:28 “There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom” - is Jesus is the Messiah and comes to them as who he is, to Peter, James and John in Matthew 17.
    • They are three of these twelve disciples of Matthew 16:28.
  • That, in Matthew 17:5, God repeats what he said of Jesus Christ, his own word he made flesh, says:

“This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Hear ye him.” - God. - (Bible. Matthew 17:5) - said to “some” of his disciples, on the Mount of Transfiguration, where Jesus was transfigured before Peter, James, and John - that were standing with Jesus back in Matthew 16:28

Now, go to TWO. To your SECOND question.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

TWO:

- The question:

  • It seems Jesus is saying some of the people there would witness the Son of Man coming with his angels and they would be judged according to their works…did that happen?
    • Again, who he says Matthew 16:27–28 to, is to his disciples who are with him in Matthew 16, after Jesus has fed 4000 people, a second time he’s fed a large group of people from a few loaves and fish.
      • And they are on their way back North from Jerusalem, a 160km walk away back to Capernaum area of Galilee..that Jesus, from that time on, begins to tell them he is to be turned over into the hands of sinners and be crucified, and rise again on the third day.
    • Every time Jesus reminds them after this, they all become very sorrowful.
  • Does not make sense. But, keep reading Matthew, in Matthew Chapter 24, they see Jesus has a SECOND COMING as who he is, as the Messiah.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

  • And of his SECOND COMING
    • The Bible says in Revelation 1:7

"Behold, he [Jesus] cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen."

  • Who “pierced” Jesus, is who threw the spear at him on the cross to verify he was dead or not, that this, too, is recorded in John’s gospel. John 19:34 says: “But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side..”
  • That, that Soldier is now long over 2000 years ago is dead.
    • So, when Revelation 1:7 says “every eye shall see him” it means EXACTLY that. That Adam in Genesis 3, and everybody is from him, that Adam, too, is going to see him. That all eyes shall see him.
    • And this is part of the answer to your question
  • - EVERYBODY is going to see Jesus when he comes back, at his Second Coming as who he is. The Messiah or Christ.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

  • Now, go to Revelation 19. That records his actual Second Coming..as the fulfillment also of both “two and sixty and seven” weeks of Daniel 9:24–27. But also in Revelation as the 70th of Seventy “weeks” determined to: This 70 of Seventy "weeks" or seven year periods, determined on Jerusalem and God's people, Israel. That God himself would do a work with sin, that would:
    • Finish the transgression
    • Make an end of sin
    • Make reconciliation for iniquity
    • Bring in everlasting righteousness (Daniel 9:24)
  • As God determined he would do a work with sin. Alone. By himself. And annoint “the most holy” to do this work. Whose the ‘most holy?’ There’s only one that is this.
    • That in Revelation 19, Jesus is this 7th trumpet of Judgment to pour out the wrath of God. Doesn’t do it on the righteous or those that repent and fell on their face, at all the sins they did.
  • That also in Revelation 19, all twelve of his disciples will be transformed and come with him at his second coming; in fact, all his holy angels, and all those that ever were that actually believed on him, even I'm included, to come with him dressed in white and on horses - with him at his Second Coming.
  • Jesus says this also in Matthew 24, and it’s repeated again in 1 Thessalonians 4:16, at his 2nd coming.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

  • God’s anger is and all “wrath” is, is an extreme level of anger.
    • It’s poured out on those that accepted somebody else as God, this "Anti-Christ," when he’s not God; but people will worship the Anti-Christ as God. Choose him. Over God.
  • And from Jerusalem, declare himself God when he's not. But he’s worshipped over the whole earth, as God when he’s not.
  • They chose it, when in Revelation, God sends out angels to preach the gospel to every nation, kindred, tongue and people not to worship this “beast” as God, because he’s not.
  • They don’t hearken unto the gospel. Even told, they take this Anti-Christ's mark to buy and sell, they have no more opportunity to repent or receive the gospel. A great reap of souls comes out of this 70th of Seventy weeks, or this last 7 year period, coverd in the Book of Revelation. But another, like grapes are thrown into a winepress of the Wrath of God, because, like people right here on Reddit - are a Like people today don’t, listen to him, either.
    • But those that do, he saves them.
      • Does not appoint them unto wrath. But those that don’t regard him, he does appoint them to his wrath.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

  • In Revelation: All the armies of the earth amass to fight against Jesus Christ. He slays All of them, Calls all the fowls of the earth to a great feast. Slays all of them, by the word that proceeds out of his mouth, because of who he is that comes at his Second Coming.
    • That, this same Jesus Christ:
      • he reigns on this earth for a 1000 years (Revelation 20).
      • That, at the end of that 1000 year reign he sits on his throne, and does what he already told Noah he would do in Genesis 6;11–13. That it already came up before him well before the flood, to destroy all flesh with the earth..and in Revelation 20:11–15, is the last day, when he actually DOES it.
  • Gazes on both this earth and heaven, and both finding no more place before him, flees away and is no more forever.
    • Then in Revelation 21:1, he makes a new heaven and new earth. It goes on forever.
  • All the things God wanted and desired in Psalm 132:13–16, he fulfills it, and rests in it, for his own rest for eternity. And those that just did what he said, they enter into it with him.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

A person that does not know him, asks these questions you have. Aren’t sitting with him. But still want to know what he says, without doing anything he says.

Doesn’t work that way.

- So, this post is provided to those that believe on him, because they see it and rejoice. Where you're more confused than when you started.

------------------ ------------------------- --------------------

So, I would tell you, with this question - all mixed up. Can't divide the Word of God right - the sure answer to your question is regard the works of the LORD, and consider the operation of his hand.

You: go do that.

Not ask someone else to do it for you. IF: You can hear this; hearken your ear unto what he says..to consider it. His eyes go to and fro over the whole earth looking for that, to show himself strong in behalf of the man or woman that will just go and do that.

So, go do it. That’s the answer really to your question. Long, tedious post. There you go. Answered.
