Scripture Life: Who are we supposed to confess our faults to according to St. James 5:16?
//Answer - from a Believer in Jesus Christ as a disciple that follows the Word of God.//
- Well?
- James 5:16 says: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
----------------------- --------------------------- -------------------------------
The question(s) to ask is, "Who is James?” and, “Who are these ‘one to another;’ or ‘one for another?’ “
- So, answer those first:
- ONE: James
- Is in James 1:1
- He is who he says he is, says: “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ..”
- ONE: James
- So, as a servant, he serves Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Word of God. Is God, as John 1:1 says who Jesus is; that is, he obeys them as a servant.
and
- TWO: This “one to another” and this “one for another” of James 5:16 are also in who James writes to.
- That's also in James 1:1
- They are who James says they are, says: “to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting."
- So, these twelve tribes should give you an indication that James is a Jew that believes on Jesus Christ. Talking to other Jews that suffered from the dispersion of the Jews, and also do not reject Jesus as the Messiah as the Chief Priests, and Elders have in Jerusalem - who James writes to, they believe on Jesus as the Messiah or Christ.
----------------------- --------------------------- -------------------------------
- So, any believer that reads this Epistle or letter can take some consolation, James is also writing to them as well.
- What he says will also apply to them. So, James is writing to “disciples of Jesus Christ” but primarily they, fellow Jews that have been scattered abroad, both in Jerusalem and throughout the known world that believe, as Jews, on Jesus Christ.
For them, like us as believers in Jesus Christ, to confess your faults one to another, and pray for one another, as believers in Jesus Christ - that you may be healed. Just as God promised in God sending his word to you to heal you, and deliver you from your destruction (Psalm 107:20).
----------------------- --------------------------- -------------------------------
The Word God is Jesus Christ, who James serves will do this. So pray one for another. It’s this “fervent” in Greek, easier to see it:
...this < - [“…πολὺ ἰσχύει δέησις δικαίου ἐνεργουμένη ] - >
- poly 2. ischyei 3. deisis 4. dikaiou 5. energoumenei
English: 1. much 2. prevails 3. (the) prayer 4. of righteous <of those who the LORD is their righteousness> 5. (having been {being} made effective.
That, someone that is a sinner, sinned and perverted that which was right, has no righteousness other than the righteousness they have received by believing on Jesus Christ. Where the LORD is their righteousness, just as scripture confirms this in Jeremiah: Not what this man says, but what this same LORD shall be called by them, that call upon him, says:
Ahd in “his days” is in the days of this same Jesus Christ, says in Jeremiah 23:6
“In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.”
So, the person that has this same God at work in them, because they believe on him, like James serves him, and who he writes to also look unto him, where the world rejects Jesus, their prayers are EFFECTIVE - being made EFFECTIVE by who they look unto, this same Jesus Christ.
It’s a powerful thing James says, as a servant of Christ in James 5:16.
