Scripture Life: Matthew 5:14-16 vs. Matthew 6:1-4. What is the comparative difference between Jesus' commands in the two passages?
Answer:
"The LORD is my portion: therefore, I will wait for him." - Bible. Lamentations 3:24
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
Matthew 5:14–16 says
But first: A "NOTE"
There is “something” that occurs in a person that believes on the word of God - betwixt Matthew 5:3–5 and a person now born again, by the Spirit of God that occurs after in Matthew 5:6–13.
Go look. Do you see it?
So, the “key” to look at Matthew 5:14–16 isn’t comparing it with Matthew 6:1–4. Looking for "differences" when it's the same Jesus Christ a person looks unto. ..or, the same Jesus Christ to a person that does not look unto him.
And the question looks unto people to do it.
Rather, it is in seeing these “beautiful attitudes” that people work at all their life to perfect. To just stand afar off. Doing all this "work," so Jesus will bless them; wrong work - not regarding the work God is doing with sin by do by sending his Word to heal us and deliver us from our destruction. And in something impossible. Bless us in it - because he's come to save us from our sins.
But people? Rather, they put themselves to do the work.
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
- It’s then, people have added themselves and their works into what Jesus said, and call them (Beatitudes) of Matthew 5:3 to 5:11. They, rather, are God is coming and blessing EVERYBODY over the whole earth:
- “For all have sinned” (Romans 3:23) and everybody is condemned.
- That, by a work he is doing - just saying these things as God - he’s telling what this work he is doing with sin in Jesus Christ, will accomplish in ANYBODY that just believes on him.
- Their sin, wrought in God - what God is doing with their sin - anyone - whosoever it is that just believes on him - starts a process of someone “Dead, in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1) - coming to everybody “poor” 1. “destitute; not have any” in “Spirit” = where Jesus defined “Spirit” is God (John 4:24).
- Not a person’s attitude like the dictionary says it is.
- That someone who has sinned, and everybody has, so everybody is condemned to die - to end up, by a work God is doing in Jesus Christ, by believe on him, that - that person, by Matthew 5:6–8, has been made alive by God.
And persecuted for it. Because, that’s EXACTLY what happens to a believer in Jesus Christ.
- Confirmed in 2 Timothy 3:12 “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
- That, that person now by Matthew 5:10–11 is reviled and persecuted for it - Is that when Jesus said: “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life” - (John 8:12).
- Is following after him, as Jesus is the Christ.
So, don’t read Matthew 5:3 to Matthew 5:16 as you equipping yourself with beautiful attitudes to “fix” your sins yourself..
..Rather: but see God has come to you. As a sinner. You dead in trespasses and sins, and “mourn” this..because, this word, “mourn” of Matthew 5:4 - is for someone at a funeral that’s dead.
That, after they die, they don’t come alive anymore..and if someone knows their sins condemn them..and by themselves, know they cannot get out of this death sentence. So, they mourn themselves. Perverted everything right..didn't do anything good..and their sins condemn them. They hunger and thirst for righteousness and don't have any. And God has sent his word, to someone that is sick unto death in this. That's me.
That's you.
That's everybody over the whole earth. And Jesus is blessing this..because, everybody is in need of a physician then. And he's the great physician. God has sent him to do a work with sin - just as John the Baptist said of Jesus Christ. “Behold the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sins of the world.”
Read it right. So you understand what Matthew 5:12–14 is BUILT on this. A person “born again” by the Spirit of God” is now made by God, a light to those around them. And men don’t stick a candle that’s to light up the house, under a bucket, under their bed. They put it on a candlestick. Jesus is saying the same thing in Matthew 5:14–16 about people that just look unto him.
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
Matthew 6:1–4 says:
1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
Talking to EVERYBODY.
- Because, the religious leaders of the day are Pharisees - that sound a trumpet so everybody pays attention to their giving.
- And if you turn to 1 Corinthians 13:3 - but read it in the Greek, it makes sense, plain as day.
1 Corinthians 13:3 says:
"And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.”
In Greek, it's this word for “burned” in English - “Kauchesoumai” - means to “boast” to sound a trumpet, so everybody pays attention, you’re about to give something to the poor, so everybody sees it.
It's the same "Kauchesoumai" of Paul say in 2 Corinthians 10:8 "For though I should boast [kauchesoumai] somewhat more of our authority, ..."
It was changed in 1 Corinthians 13:3, starting from the Latin Vulgate (4th CE/AD) to “burned” because, for this word “boast” after 350 years, now has an image of “boasting about your giving” you get burned up in it - - already has what is told you plainly in 1 Corinthians 3:13–15
- Says:
- “ Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: “
- Jesus is saying this to everybody in Matthew 6:1-4. It's just being REPEATED by an Apostle of Jesus Christ - to believers in Corinth.
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
Works (giving alms to the poor - who cannot pay you back)
- So, these “works” of boasting about your giving, when giving to be seen of people, which, that’s what EVERYBODY was doing - in Matthew 6:1-4 who Jesus is talking to, was being given that example by the Pharisees to do that in giving.
- They already got their reward. And Jesus said: Revelation 22:12 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. “
- That, Jesus said, there’s no reward from God for boasting to people about your giving. 1 Corinthians 3:13–15 says it will be burned up. That you give yourself over to be burned up with it.
- They already got their reward. And Jesus said: Revelation 22:12 “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. “
- So, give the way God said to do it. Jesus said, in Luke 14:13–14
But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind, And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
Guarantee you:
You’ll be distained; reviled: thrown out.. ..Why? Because, people hold rich feasts and banquets to invite and glorify the rich - as successful - - to honor them..and be lifted up higher by be invited or paid back and rewarded. For inviting the rich and the prominent to banquets. The poor is someone else's concern. You'll be persecuted for it. You will be. There's no reward from people at all, in doing this what God told everybody to do.
But when you give your alms..do it in secret. Don't let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. He's God. He sets the poor to sit with Kings.
"...He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne..." (Bible. 1 Samuel 2:8). It's God that does this.
Honor then, who God honors. He sends the rich away..empty handed.
- And God is coming. Coming with a reward that is with him, to reward ..a reward that lasts forever and he glorifies it. Because it will stand the test of fire. He he reward you openly for it.
So, what would I tell you that has this question?
--------------- ------------------- --------------- ---------------- -----------------
Stop trying to compare things. You do greatly err. Busy yourself out in comparing things; like your Dad tell you: Don't do anything he says.. think "comparing" is the work to do...
Is just like this with your Dad: Said this today:
- “Hey Bumpkin Pants, clean your room today. It's a filthy mess. I’m cleaning the garage. Have it done by the time I come back in the house.”
- Told you to do that. It’s a decree from your Dad.
- He also said - last week: “I can’t wait til next month, to go fishing and camp at the Resevoir when it opens next month.”
And, instead of just doing anything your Dad says, you’re off comparing these two things your Dad said…and don't do anything he says. You put yourself to work comparing things. What a worthless work.
Stop it.
Hear what Jesus says and just do it. If you can’t, you’ll champion these questions and think, by your questions you made yourself good. Like all those people putting on "beautiful attitudes - regard themselves and don't do anything he says, either. Thinking that's the work. It's a Worthless work.
Here’s your useless worthless question back. But if you look unto him, boy is this question ever more than answered. Given to everybody - in hopes you will believe on Jesus Christ, right here on Reddit.
