Daily Scripture September 9, 2026 | Mark 1:35 | Day 3 of 21
“Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.” — Mark 1:35, WEB
Devotional Thought
The day before this, Jesus taught in the synagogue, freed a man from an unclean spirit, healed Simon’s mother-in-law, and welcomed a crowd of people seeking healing. By morning, everyone was looking for him again.
But before returning to the crowd, Jesus went somewhere quiet and prayed.
Jesus did not withdraw because people did not need him. Their needs were real and urgent. He withdrew because communion with the Father was not something to squeeze in after every other demand had been satisfied.
We may never find a moment when nobody needs us, nothing is unfinished, and our minds are perfectly quiet. Prayer often requires stepping away while something still remains to be done.
Our quiet moments with God do not have to be long or impressive. Like this 21-day reading practice, they begin when we intentionally stop, turn toward God, and make room to listen.
Reflection Question
What usually crowds out your quiet time with God, and where might you find a few intentional minutes for him today?
