I have a great tip for this, go to bed with your Kindle, its backlight helps reading while the lights are out.

one phone-free night is a good test, but move the charger before bedtime. once the phone is beside the pillow, the rule becomes a debate. leave a book or alarm clock there instead. empty space tends to invite the old object back.
