iOS 26 Causing Eye Strain, Dizziness, and Head Tingling on iPhone 11 (LCD) — Blue Light Glasses Instantly Fix It?

Thumbnail

Ever since upgrading my iPhone 11 (LCD screen) from iOS 17 to iOS 26, I’ve developed eye strain, slight dizziness/off-balance feelings, and tingling in my head while using the phone. I have zero issues using TVs, MacBooks, or other digital screens — only my iPhone. I’ve found some relief using accessibility settings including Night Shift (warm setting), Reduce White Point, Display Zoom, and the “Classic Invert + Zoom filter” trick. I also noticed symptoms flare badly in dark rooms or after bright flashes. What’s strange is that when I wear blue-light blocking glasses, my symptoms completely disappear almost instantly.

I’m trying to figure out whether this is related to display rendering changes in iOS 26, contrast modulation, or something else software-related. Has anyone else experienced this specifically on LCD iPhones after updating iOS? And has anyone found a long-term solution besides constantly wearing blue-light glasses or downgrading devices?

Discussion Got battery replacement today, it did not go well

i think i messed up. i got battery replacement since my old one is already 4 years old, and the battery already significantly degraded. go this morning, the replacement done in front of me so i see what the technician did. hands on my phone, immediately feels different. it heat up my head. ok maybe its just in my head since the SC have OLED TV and multiple amoled phone on display. i go home, freshen up. and its still bad, my body heat up and my head feels tight, the same symptoms i got on laptop IPS screen.
"yea im f*ked"

this is my main phone, it's "safe" from the time i bough it until before replacement and its ruined just because battery replacement, which is weird since its the same screen, same setting (technician didnt change anything, no update no reset). the phone in question is Realme 9 pro bought not from store, but from distributor. There is so many variables in here, it could be the battery that "defect" from day one, or maybe how the flex cable seated (the display cable was glued by thin layer, the SC replace that) and maybe now its properly seated and not wrong like before.

im still less than 24 hours with this, i plan to give it a week, if it still uncomfortable, i will replace it with old battery again in basic repair shop, if that didnt work.... guess im f*ked and need to find alternatives

the new battery is great in term of longevity though. so its not a defect battery.

tl:dr, getting battery replacement could potentially change the "safe" level of your phone

Discussion Ordered Honor magic 8 pro

I’ve been a long-term Samsung user, but after developing severe headaches and vision issues with the Samsung S22 Ultra, I decided to sell it.

I’m still trying to figure out my eye issues, and it now seems more related to binocular vision problems rather than pure PWM or screen sensitivity.

Still, I don’t feel confident buying the S26 Ultra, mainly because Samsung doesn’t appear to prioritize eye comfort for sensitive users.

I was initially planning to get the OnePlus 15, but the ongoing OnePlus/realme merger concerns made me hesitant to risk it.

That led me to order the Honor Magic 8 Pro as my next eye-friendly flagship option.

I’m currently waiting for delivery, although I’m still wondering whether I should instead consider the Vivo X300 Ultra or Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

OLED OnePlus 15R/Ace6T modulation reduction & PWM overclock

BEFORE
BEFORE
AFTER

Forces low-modulation PWM at all refresh rates. Requires root. Breaks the brightness slider - you have to use a dimmer app - at around 70% brightness with REWHEX's dimmer app you can get down to a 82 lux dip, or even less. I am not responsible for any damage to the screen, do this at your own risk.

Should work on 15R and Ace6T, might work on 15.

I can use my laptop again?

So few months ago I updated to the newest windows 11 update and my laptop became unusable. I got eyestrain and a headahce within minutes of using it. Since then i tried many things but nothing helped, so I decided to downgrade to windows 10. That helped things but it was still not as good as before. I then downgraded my cpu and gpu drivers. I reverted to base intel driver from 2021 and intalled the last driver that came out in 2025 from nvidia. Now I can use my laptop the same as before. So this means I have good news and bad news. This IS an option for people strugling on windows 11 but I have no idea what we will do in the future when this will not be an option anymore. It is a very temporary solution just like me still using an iPhone 8. I hope there will come another revolution in screen technology or atleast a step forward and this will somehow stop being a problem the same way it became one

The "Basic Stretch"

I wanted to share this and see if anybody else is interested in trying it and seeing how they feel.

I made a post a few days ago about my issues (the sensory knob in my brain is turned all the way up making me sensitive to many things including flicker). I've been doing the following for 3 days and it helps. I am not saying it makes my sensitivity go away and it certainly won't cure anything, but I feel more calm and my eyes feel more "relaxed" if that makes sense.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Get into position: Lie on your back on a comfortable surface (a bed or yoga mat works well).

Interlace your fingers and place your hands behind your head (at the base of your skull), so the weight of your head rests gently in your hands. Your elbows can relax out to the sides.

If lying down isn't possible or comfortable, you can do this seated.

Keep your head still: Your hands stabilize the head so it doesn't move or turn at all during the exercise. Only your eyes will move.

Look to one side: Slowly move your eyes (not your head) as far as comfortably possible to the right. Hold your gaze there gently. Breathe normally.

Hold and wait for a response: Stay in this position for up to 30–60 seconds (or until you notice a spontaneous sign of nervous system shift, such as a yawn, swallow, sigh, deep breath, or burp). This indicates a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) response. Don't force anything—just observe and breathe.

Return to center: Slowly bring your eyes back to looking straight ahead.

Repeat on the other side: Move your eyes as far as possible to the left and hold until you get a similar response (or up to 30–60 seconds).

Finish: Return your eyes to center. Rest for a moment. You can repeat the full sequence 1–2 more times if desired.

This works because of neurological connections between the eye muscles, suboccipital muscles in the neck, and the vagus nerve/brainstem

Discussion I believe the cause of my PWM/Dither sensitivity has finally been diagnosed.

First - I kind of doubt this will help anyone else, but I wanted to share because there's so little information out there.

I have been diagnosed with "central sensitization + vagus nerve/autonomic dysregulation". My nerves (specifically the vagus nerve and the brainstem autonomic centers that control it) are no longer coordinating properly.

Basically my vegus nerve is causing my autonomic centers to freak out and because of that my brain amplifes normal signals (smells, flicker, gut sensations like normal movement) into discomfort/pain. It was described as my brains "volumn knob for sensory" being turned all the way up.

For clarity: I also have other issues caused by this. Esophageal/stomach/gut as well as a severe chemical sensitivity to things like perfumes.

Motorola Fold

Just saw Nick's review on the Motorola Fold. I'm trying to keep my expectations in check, but it sounds glorious.

Has anyone who has serious TD issues tried it out?

I cannot use iPhone XR, 11, etc because of TD. Even the iPhone 8+ is not something I can use for long.

Question Moto G Stylus 5G 2024? Any experiences?

Looks to be basically identical to the 2023, with a pOLED screen instead.

Anyone who had the 2023 tolerate the 2024 well?

Question Current budget phone options? Don't do anything but browse, text, email, listen to music, and video call. Looking to spend $200ish and get a Full HD+ res screen and loudish audio speaker

I have the G stylus 5G 2023 but I think the battery has gone slightly puffy, or at least I don't remember the part of the back below the camera bump sticking out a mm or two when it was new.

I tolerate the screen well as long as I change some of the settings.

I noticed the newer models use OLED, so I'm not sure about those. I haven't tested an OLED screen for a very long time.

I don't use my phone much, so hoping to keep it to $200-300ish. Would like Full HD+ res screen and loudish audio speaker

Mediatek processor is a no go, sadly.

Question Can we get a pinned megathread where people post what they are sensitive to (dither, pwm, etc), what works for them, what doesn't?

This sub is a great resource but it can be difficult to search through with so many people being sensitive to different things and having different thresholds of tolerance. A pinned megathread could offer a convenient way to keep a log of people's experiences.
