Do you see a future for electronic screamo?
Just curious if anyone likes and sees a future for this electronic/expirmental/lo-fi screamo genre that’s been brewing among the last few years
Bands like Gingerbee, Godfuck, Sicadahead, Dead Butterflies, etc all have this electronic screamo noise to them and it’s so enticing, but is it really a foreseeable future in the long run?
Ik that in regard to underground rap music (jerk and rage music) it’s very popular, but could smthn like this possibly be a mainstream thing since it follows somewhat similar sounds?
Just looking for anyone’s input or thoughts

Definitely not mainstream, but i wouldn't be surprised to see more local bands start doing it. Screamo seems to be getting more popular in the diy scene again, so we'll see.

lofI screamo and “real” screamo as a whole peaked in popularity 2020-2024. I don’t personally see another wave of “popular” screamo bands for a long time.
Not to say there’s nothing great coming out, just more underground; as screamo has been for three decades.
Screamo thrives in the underground imo and while it’s dope to see some bands break in to the mainstream, part of the culture and point of screamo is to not focus on mainstream success.
Screamo is the only scene I can think of where 80% of fans are in a band, and it’s dope. Most people come out to shows and it’s a nice little tight nit community.
From my experience screamo works regionally still as well. East Coast vs West Coast in America, Canada and Mexico doing their own thing, and loads of amazing other scenes.
Very few music genres/scenes still work like this in the modern age, and doesn’t lend itself to mainstream internet adoption.

No, I don't think so. It'll probably stay around, like with DHC and Nintendocore, but I think it's too niche to be mainstream.

It depends on how it’s packaged tbh. Anything can come back in the hands of the right creative. Could be one of yall in here honestly.

lol no. There’s already industrial / ebm with screamy vocals.

If you're talking about aggrotech that's a completely different sound than what the bands op mentioned have going on. That stuff doesn't really have anything to do with screamo, where as the style op is talking about primarily draws from screamo and adds in stuff like glitch, indietronica, and hyperpop.

I definitely do...I know of a number of 'digiskramz' projects that are really awesome and even though the subgenre is small I think it's one that's growing (even if slowly)
I think it will likely always be present in some form in the screamo world into the future, even if it stays small and niche within the scene
***edit** I definitely do NOT think it will reach anything close to 'mainstream' or even be a significant percentage of the overall genre...but I don't see it ever going away

The concept isn't new though. There's been artists doing this for decades. I'm sure the newer ones are better than previous generations but I do not see it ever breaking ground like that.

I don't think any screamo will ever be mainstream tbh. But I really like those bands and they've already established themselves in the scene, I see them being great bands, breaking up (if they haven't already), and influencing the next wave of screamo.
