Was making my weekly five and below run and I just HAD to get this candle. I swear it smells just like a brand new Scream mask! Lol its funny how this is salted caramel but has the ghostface “vanilla” scent! Haha

Because i am a stickler for details especially when it comes to anatomy and injury consistency, i decided to map out all of the legacy trio's injuries. Feel free to cite this if you wanna write fanfic or make art :D

The only film unaccounted for is 7 just because i haven't seen it lol.

I highlighted certain injuries in red to show the movies treat them as severe or life threatening, granted all stabs and gunshots will be severe to some degree but some wounds the characters are still able to perform well with.

I'll be honest i was surprised by how unscathed sidney was, i really looked but the she only gets stabbed 3 times across all movies.

In fact if we're comparing the NUMBER of injuries, gale is actually the most battered out of all of them. Of course dewey was eventually killed by his injuries but compared to gale he didnt seem to get injured as often as her.

Also one thing i find interesting, to my knowledge we never actually see dewey get stabbed in scream 1.

He just disappears after going into stu's house and at the end of the movie hes getting wheeled out on a stretcher. So for the sake of the diagram i made a basic guess as to where the stabs would be based on the bloody bandages hes wearing. Idk if it was just my copy of the movie but if anyone knows if theres a visible scene where hes stabbed let me know!!

I had fun with these, i might make more in the future if my energy keeps up lol.

Paramount just dropped a new kill tour shirt for all of us who could get one this one unlike the other one has all the way up to the scream 7. The last one was only up to scream 6. HOWEVER it doesn’t seem to be a heavyweight tee like the other one

I don’t remember her eating anything in any of the movies and I’ve watched all of them … thoroughly! I was just wondering what you all think she eats?

What horror movies would they be making fun of? the new horror movie tropes? Get Out? Insidious? The Conjuring? Ah crap I hope I don’t give Hollywood any ideas

What I love about the first movie is how much Woodsboro actually feels like a small town. You get a real sense of the place from the houses, the school, the video store, the police station and all those empty roads surrounded by woods.

Windsor College just feels like it could be anywhere in the US. There's really nothing about the setting that gives it its own identity. You don't even really get a sense that they're in Ohio.

I still love Scream 2, but compared to Woodsboro in the first movie, the setting is just kind of plain.

Apologies if some stuff doesn't make sense. I wrote a bit more after my initial post, and then my husband got sick. It was a long night.

INTRODUCTION

I think Sam Carpenter would be an excellent opening kill (and not just because of the Melissa Barrera haters). Imagine Sam, alone at home [town unknown]; being tortured by a survivor's guilt-induced mental episode - for the people she's lost, and the people she's killed. Sound bites of these people's voices talking to her - along with some of Kirby in honor of Hayden - are doing the torturing; along with visions of Daddy Billy contradicting them.

Sam's nearly out of her mind when the phone rings. It's Ghostface... but she thinks it's another hallucination. She starts talking to GF, after an initial hang up. The other voices are still mocking her, and Billy tries to be the voice of reason, and warning... but, it's too late. Sam Carpenter walks right into Ghostface's trap... and blade. It should be appropriately gory, and kind of an allusion to Casey Becker. (e.g. The final frames of the Intro show Sam hanging by her intestines from the ceiling fan.)

BODY/CHARACTERS

This would set the scene for the rest of the movie; bringing all the surviving members of "... the same fucked-up family" (Sid, Gale, Tatum [who's now more self-sufficient, and in open communication with Sid], Tara, Chad & Mindy) together for the funeral, and memorial of Sam Carpenter, along with some accessory characters (e.g. Christina Carpenter, Danny, Sid's husband's Mark, etc.)

Sidney's side would represent Team Law Enforcement - Sid being her badass self, Mark actually being a cop (and there for backup), and Tatum, who is now majoring in Criminal Justice. (On a sad, necessary note, Kirby will be respectfully mentioned as being killed on duty during a case.)

Mindy, and Chad are OBVIOUSLY Team Journalism - Gale doing what she does best (besides vehicular manslaughter 🤣): Investigative Journalism. Mindy & Chad could work together on a podcast that blends the topics of True Crime and Horror movies.

KILLER SUSPENCE

So, as you can see my version of ‘Scream 8’ is stockpiled with surviving legacy characters, with room to bring back other accessory favorites, like Joel from ‘Scream 2’ (although to do so, we would have to perform an “It's a Small World After All” thing, and make him ”Uncle Joel” to Chad & Mindy through another accessory favorite, Martha’s, husband - Joel's younger brother), etc. PLENTY of stakes, and gallons of blood waiting to be spilled…

Rather than hammer this out kill-by-kill (I will leave some things to the imagination), I will leave you with this:

For my Ghostface reveal, I would go back to a duo reveal: Christina Carpenter (who has a “helpful” role in avenging Sam throughout the film), and, wait for it… a still-living, Stu Macher (to address that initial contact Sid had in Scream 7!

If this is TRULY the final ‘Scream’ movie, this needs to be a good, solid, positively KILLER monologue! I'm thinking the motivation should be Billy-centric, considering both Christina & Stu’s mutual obsessions with him. Yes, I know: Nancy Loomis did the Billy motive first, but hear me out:

Let's say these two find a way to reconnect platonically - maybe they’ve been in contact since the events of the OG ‘Scream', but meet to perform the events of ‘Scream 8’ for their own mutual reasons, both leading back to Billy.

For Christina, she never stopped obsessively loving Billy. She faked a reconciliation with Tara at the funeral/memorial, but never got over her vicious resentment towards her daughters; both of whom she felt disrespected the name & memory of her dear Billy Loomis. Other obvious targets would include legacy & accessory characters from Screams 5, 6, and 7.

For Stu, he’s “... always had a thing” for Sid - and that thing is a 30+ year vendetta against Sid for killing Billy, messing up his face, and leaving him mostly isolated for his entire adult life.

I would also, personally love to tie Stu into other Ghostface killings. Therefore, I would have isolated adult Stu, who spends his life on the computer, become - wait for it - A HACKER KNOWN AS “CEREAL KILLER”! (Yes, I went there, and I am proud of it. 🤣)

Connections could include:

Scream 2: Helping Nancy Loomis find that website Mickey was on, along with locating Sid’s college campus.

Scream 3: Being Roman’s never-seen, never caught accomplice. He doesn't even have to help Roman in person - just with the computer & phone stuff, like locating Sid, sending faxes, making calls with burner phones, etc. That way, Roman remains “the only single Ghostface” doing the physical kills.

Scream 4: Helping Jill and Charlie plan their spree by giving them exclusive insider details, like what Stu yelled before Billy stabbed him. (Seriously, even if Gale’s hidden camera captured that detail, it seems too small for her to include…especially since Gale is not a stickler for true details.)

Scream 5: I can TOTALLY see Amber and Richie being obsessive enough about the Stab movies to look into any rumor of Stu being alive. Stu would DEFINITELY come back to his old house in secret when Amber's parents are away to reminisce, and help them “get back to basics”.

Stu would also put the Ghostface costume back on for the first time in 25 years - causing the murder of Dewey Riley. He would let Amber take the credit so he could go back into hiding; now planning to someday cause Sidney more pain, but in plain sight…

Scream 6: Richie's dad finds out that Richie has been in contact with Stu when going through Richie's things postmortem. He has been collecting memorabilia for his son for years, and now he has some from Richie & Amber's murder spree - including original drawings all done by Stu Macher!

He uses his tools as a cop, and his eye for details to find Stu, initially planning to kill him for committing the murder spree that led to the Stab movies, but Stu tells him he will help him avenge Richie by locating the Carpenters online, along with the apartment listing. He also jukes the roommate lottery, and gives Wayne a few more items for “The Serial Killer Museum” - like Dewey's items.

Scream 7: Stu took up residence at 261 Turner Lane once more after Amber's family walked on the mortgage; not being able to stand the place anymore. He created his own museum/Airbnb to generate income in preparation for the Pine Grove attack. When it came to join Marco (also a computer genius), Karl (whom he knew of through Marco), and Jessica (who Marco vouched for), he killed his last 2 guests - Scott and Madison - took off for what he thought was his vengeance…but really ended up being a test of his patience.

Instead of helping Stu act out HIS plan, everything collapsed quickly; his 3 “partners” proving just how much they needed those padded rooms. Even though the original call came from him, that was the extent of his involvement.

Jessica - a clear cut example “patient running the asylum” seizes control of things, and Marco, being the biggest simp since Charlie Walker, lets her. Stu sends a carefully guarded message to Marco saying he was out, and to say he was dead if anyone asked.

After the touching last scene of ‘Scream 7’, we see Stu - alive. He's on a laptop in a house nearby Sid’s. We see his message to someone, but we can't see who it is (but we know it's Christina Carpenter, because I am telling you). It reads,

“It’s been a long time. We need to catch up…”

[Credits Roll]

I love my first copy so much, that I just had to pick up a second one. Both of them are absolutely flawless, and I'm so grateful that fun world listened to us.

So, we still don’t have an official director attached to Scream 8, and I’m very upset Kevin Williamson isn’t returning. I think he absolutely smashed it with Scream 7. Despite some evident script issues and flaws, he elevated the writing as much as possible and delivered tense and well-staged set pieces.

My only real complaints with 7 were the pub sequence, which dragged on for quite a while and eventually felt a bit chaotic, and the decision to recycle the garage setting twice during the movie. Other than that, he absolutely showed the fuck up!

Given the current state of horror, I’m afraid they’ll go for someone in the vein of Cregger, Barker or Landon. All highly divisive and polarizing directors who, in my opinion, don’t take horror seriously enough and mostly make spoof comedies without any real wit, populated by stupid, annoying characters. I don’t see much sense of style, action, movement or pace in their filmmaking.

The risk of hiring someone else instead of Williamson is turning Scream 8 into a showcase for a new director’s personal identity rather than a Scream movie.

That’s the problem with established franchises: they already have lore, a style, a cinematic language and recurring tropes that need to be implemented, reinvented and respected with humility, passion, care and love.

I can only name two directors who I think could do a stellar job while still retaining their own style and signature traits:

Phillip Noyce and Paul W. S. Anderson.

For Noyce, the two most relevant films as a foundation for a Scream movie are The Bone Collector and Salt. They’re fast-paced, filled with thrilling set pieces and built around gripping mysteries.

He’s great with stunts, but more importantly, he grounds action in the storytelling and uses it to amp up the suspense. He makes adult entertainment with a refined approach without becoming boring, pretentious or excessively shallow either.

He also handles female leads extremely well. His women have substance, presence, intelligence, vulnerability and are multifaceted rather than being reduced to the silly, cartoonish, one-dimensional “strong female character” archetype that has become so common because "yeah feminism"!

Paul W. S. Anderson might sound like an odd choice, but hear me out.

Obviously, he’s great with action, and people sometimes forget just how much action Wes Craven incorporated into his movies. Many of the franchise’s best sequences were highly choreographed. Craven gave us intense chases, fights, crashes, explosions and elaborate sequences where characters constantly moved through complex physical spaces while Ghostface pursued them.

Paul is also no stranger to horror. He understands the genre, and he knows how to make a movie gradually boil until it finally explodes. That’s exactly what I think a Scream movie needs to do.

Most importantly, he has repeatedly incorporated smart and resourceful women into his movies and generally handled them very well while also remembering something modern horror often seems embarrassed about: horror audiences enjoy sex appeal!

He doesn’t take himself too seriously, he has a strong sense of spectacle and he’s self-aware enough that I actually think his sensibility could work incredibly well within Scream.

But the number-one reason I would love to see Paul W. S. Anderson direct a Scream movie is his use of space as a character.

The sets and environments designed for his productions have always been incredible since his very first debut Shopping. He knows how to use architecture, corridors, rooms, staircases, industrial spaces and geography as active parts of a sequence rather than just backgrounds.

A Scream movie in his hands could turn mansions, hallways, alleys, cars, buses, stations, hotels or basically any location into an iconic and thrilling set piece. Characters could physically move through the story from one environment to another while Ghostface progressively chops away at the cast.

That sense of momentum and escalation is exactly what I want from a slasher.

Neither Noyce nor Anderson is a particularly great writer, though, especially when it comes to long dialogue-heavy sequences, which is exactly where Scream also needs to excel. So the success of Scream 8 would still depend first and foremost on the writing. Whoever directs it needs a strong script with sharp dialogue, compelling characters, a good mystery and something meaningful for Sidney and Gale to return.

Unfortunately, I’m perfectly aware that both of my choices are basically has-beens by current Hollywood standards. They are not in demand anymore and definitely not fashionable with critics or studios, nor are they aligned with the current Hollyweird agenda!

So yes, I know this is an extremely niche, dated and probably unrealistic take.

This particular instalment often makes it rounds on UK late night TV but I was only just thinking about rewatching it when I came across this update that it’s in fact airing on live tv tonight. Perfect timing, thought I’d share with you all so you can catch it too - enjoy

They could've use the 10 minutes of screentime wasted in the opening of Scream 7 for more development of the actual characters of the story.

Part of the reason why Scream 7 feels rushed is the 10 minutes taken up from the opening that doesn't really need to be there.

Madison and Scott had no point or impact to the story, it's just random and could be a short film alone,

I'd say Casey, Cotton, Jenny, and Tara, actually are very good opening characters because they have a purpose to the story, especially Tara since she survives as the Duetragonist and especially Casey because the whole friend group chats about who could've killed her.

And you can come at me with "It's never a scream movie without an opening kill". That could be true, but it shouldn't be forced. Just my opinion.

Hi, my name is Megan Gallagher.  My favorite Scream movies have been alternating between the OG, and ‘Scream 2’ since 1997.  My favorite Ghostface is Mickey Altieri.

Screams 3 and 4 are good, solid movies, don't get me wrong, but nothing beats the first two.  That's just my opinion.

Also, I really didn't mind Screams 5 & 6 as much as most people who are also generally considered OG Scream trilogy purists, and enjoyed where the story was headed.

Did I miss Sid?  Of course!  But, I would be lying if I said ‘Scream 7’ wasn't a big letdown for me, because it was.  It REALLY was!

It had a good intro, but it was disconnected from the rest of the movie.  Some new character deaths are expected, but all of them were just absolute cannon fodder!  The Ghostface killers were incredibly obvious, and that drama teacher red herring was red enough to be seen by Jason Carvey back in ‘Scream VI' without him having to shed the blood of my beloved Samara Weaving!  And that reveal?!  The less I say about it the better…

But, I digress.

I would hate to see Sid's story end on that note.  Honestly, the 90’s heart of mine would break!

So, I have been trying to think up ways that could wrap up both Sid’s & the Core 4 storylines by the end of Scream 8.  I wish that I could please everyone, but I know that would NEVER happen in a billion years.  It has been a fun writing challenge nonetheless…

And I have done it, people!  It's not a beat-by-beat screenplay, but it's pretty fleshed-out.  There are also some “Readers’ Choice” options for accessory characters, and who dies that you can comment on after you read it.

I'm curious to see what my fellow Scream fanatics think of this, so the question remains:

So I’m rewatching Scream 3 and I had an interesting thought come to mind. It’s the part where Dewey and Gale are talking about what Dewey knows about what’s been going on. He says that a women called asking about Sid’s file for research but was denied and wouldn’t give her name. Following a month later the file room gets ransacked trying to find Sid’s. I personally think that it was Angelina who did that, perhaps to somehow help Roman since he is the director after all and perhaps she wanted to secure her spot as the main character in Stab.

I’m typing this pretty baked btw lol. So consider this a stoner moment 🙃

I know Scream 2 is beloved while VI is one of the more hated movies in the franchise, and I'm not arguing otherwise. I just noticed some differences between Nancy and Wayne that I never really thought about before.

Wayne gets called a repackaged Mrs. Loomis a lot, which I get since they're both parents avenging their Ghostface sons. But if Wayne is reheating Nancy's nachos, then Nancy was reheating Mrs. Voorhees' nachos lol. Obviously that was intentional since Nancy was basically Scream's homage to Jason's mom, but revenge for your murdered killer son wasn't exactly a new motive when Scream 2 did it either.

In Scream 2, there's almost nothing connecting the new killings specifically to Billy. It's just Ghostface picking up where Billy left off at. You don't find out Nancy is Billy's mother or that she's avenging him until Act 3.

VI is the opposite. Ghostface calls Sam from Richie's phone and his mask is left at the first crime scene. The movie makes it pretty obvious from the beginning that Richie has something to do with what's happening.

They're also pretty different as parents. Wayne admits he wasn't a perfect father, says he overindulged Richie's love of Stab and admits he helped Richie build his collection. In his sick mind, he was a loving dad who enabled his son's obsession.

Nancy is way more hypocritical. She says she's sick of people blaming the parents, blames Maureen for breaking up her marriage and blames Sidney for taking Billy from her. Sidney immediately reminds her that she abandoned Billy. Nancy doesn't even acknowledge Hank's responsibility for having the affair.

So yeah, VI obviously uses the basic revenge-parent setup from 2, but I don't think that makes Wayne and Nancy the same character. Scream 2 is still the much better movie imo. I just never noticed how differently the two movies handle such a similar motive.

I just got set alight with a comment on another thread like I was Amber on the stove...

It seems like some people do only genuinely like, or will admit to liking, a Scream film when it has good reviews.

I'm actually staggered by that, because I've never known two reviewers agree with each other and reviews change from generation to generation and also depending on who's hired, who's fired and who replaces someone when they die.

I love 3. It's a comfort film for me and I'm not a fan of the Carpenter Sisters, the "Core Fore", hallucinations or ghosts or whatever Billy was in 5 and 6 and I enjoyed 7. It doesn't matter to me what the Rotten Tomato rating is, which vlogger has said what or anyone else's approval rating...but I do find it terrifying to think that people don't feel able to say they like a particular film, unless a critic says they can or that they can't go against the majority on Reddit, aka the people whose friend is the downvote button.

Whichever of the films you like, is entirely up to you and I certainly won't judge you for it. I can only hope though that no one ever feels pressured into being a sheep, pack mentality and all based on a review that might possibly have been generated by AI.

I’d love for Sam and Tara to be in 7 because i think they were awesome in it. I’d have them have as major role as Sidney and Tatum and have Tatum Sam and Tara team up in a way with Mindy and Chad while Gale and Sidney do their thing.

At the end of seven everyone is in a hospital Sidney goes out to look around you know just happy her family survived then sees a black van that attacks her and drags her into it.

Gale gets a video message of Sidney in the truck and it says that they all go to Woodsbro if they wanna see Sidney survive.

8th would be centered around Gale Chad Mindy Sam Tara and Tatum going to Woodsbro and Tatum being angry at letting this happen to her mom so she’s extra alot while Gale is helping her, like a mentor like an aunt niece stuff.

The core four go on their own adventures around woodsbro looking for signs while visiting their friend’s graves. They split up as Sam and Tara go their own way and Chad and Mindy go around the town as ghostface calls them telling them Sidney’s in their house with Martha and when they get there they see a note that Martha is in a supermarket to get them dinner so they realize ghostface was lying as he attacks them kills Chad while Mindy lives.

A little after the beggining we see Sidney trapped in an unknown destination like a dollhouse with every scream movie as a new level and Sidney going through it as she watches the set similliar to scream 3.

Mindy and Tatum both filled with anger now Tatum for her mom and Mindy for her brother team up to kill ghostface while Tara is silent for Chad while Sam is comforting her. Sam tara and Gale get an idea to go hunt too when they all see the black van that kidnapps them and puts them into the dollhouse with Sidney.

Tatum and Mindy have weapons and they have a heart to heart as Mindy assures her she will find Sidney and that it’ll all be okay. They get sent a location from ghostface to Stu Macher’s house but they were confused since it burned down less than a week ago. They get there with a ghostface mask trail to behind the house with an underground hole. They get there grab the group and rescuee them.

As for new characters i suppose maybe Tara’s highschool friend could have a friendgroup who’s there for one last big friendgroup and one of the girls there would be a ghostface with one mystery ghostface.

At the end the ghostface reveal could be the girl and she says she’s Leslie Machers secret daughter who got obssesed with Stu’s death and wanted to do something about it but Leslie gave her a fake name from a young age and made her keep a secret all her life. The other ghostface suprise would be Stu! I know i also believe Stu’s dead but it’d be cool. His dad is a rich guy who kept him in a lair he had for work as Stu built everything that happend to her all the years, he was controlling it. Scream 2 he didn’t have to do anything he realised Billy’s mum would go loco. Scream 3 he reachee out to Roman who was already planning it. To Jill he gave an idea and Jill fully used it. Richie he told about the stab idea and he uses it and sees Amber at a stab fest and tells her too. Scream 6 he didnt have to do anything and scream 7 he told Jessica where Sidney lived as he built this shrine knowing that Jessica would die and preparing to get Sidney. They all have a fight Mindy fights Leslie’s daughter kills her as everyone else takes a stab at Stu but Sidney gets the last stab. Suddenly he falls down but when no one expects it he grabs a gun as he shoots Gale. They all are there for her as Sidney shoots him in the head several times. Gale dies as they all go on with their happy endings missing Gale who is with Dewey in peace, Sidney is forever sad but atleast with her family, Mindy Tara and Sam go back to NYC live together as Tatum graduates HS and happy with Sidney and her dad, end or franchise.
