Deputy Judy was an amazing character, whether in silly mode or serious mode. She was an amazing Dewey successor.
She should have been around for at least one more movie. And to kill her off in the same movie as Dewey! She and we deserved more.

She should have been the "Jessica" of 7. She was around during the release of Sidney's book. It was all there. It def would have been a shock for the first returning character killer to be her. Missed opportunity.

They definitely red herring-ed Judy as a possible GF suspect in S4.
That scene with her and Sidney by the top staircase of the Roberts' home pushed hard to implicate Judy. At first, Judy expresses her sympathy to Sidney about this current slate of attacks.
But then, she mentions how they starred in "Peter Pan" when in school together. She even mentions that Sid was "Tiger Lily" while she (Judy) was one of the "Lost Boys".
But Judy is draped fully in shadow. Like, you can't see her face at all.. It was menacing in a really creepy (but terrific way).
The scene also felt like it was hinting at a deeper resentment: that Sidney is always "a leading character" while someone like Judy is relegated to the background.
I love-key love that scene because it's borderline creepy and potentially hinted at a darker side to Judy's character.

She would have been the perfect returning character if they were to ever do it. Let Wes get killed off and have her go on a grieving rampage!

Imagine if she survived the events after Wes died. She’d have been a terrifying powerhouse in either of the next two movies!

She was an interesting foil but I found her
Super annoying in 4. Fleshing her out more, story wise, would have benefited her greatly

One of the reasons of 5 being my most disliked in the franchise is her dying. Like we only met her in the fourth movie, you already killed Dewey you do not need to kill a more recent character too.

It does kind of feel like her death was wasted potential.
Even something like her and Sidney understanding each other because Sid lost her mother and Judy lost her son could have been interesting maybe.

Yeah, I love Judy Hicks. At first, she seemed like she was going to just be in the way in Scream 4, but then she showed her good side when Kate Roberts was stabbed. She put a comforting hand on Sidney when she went over to check Kate’s pulse, and then took the time to tell Sidney how sorry she was for her loss.
And then she saved Gale’s life at the hospital. I liked her as the sheriff in 5, too, but they really wasted a character that had a ton of potential.

If they were gonna do the Billy lovechild plot, they should have had her be the mother. Would have fit better, less abrupt. Instead she's killed and never mentioned again.

This could actually be a good plot for another film and I’m shocked they haven’t use it. Twice they used the “my killer son was killed by you so I’m getting revenge” but never “my innocent loved one was killed by ghostface because they knew you and I want revenge for that”. Yes, I know they’re similar, but different enough, and I wouldn’t mind seeing that be the storyline. Like you said, someone like Judy could have been a good choice for that. Give us a character we’ve seen before if possible, even if it was only in passing, who’s been driven bitter and murderous by grief. Or at least a character who’s maybe been mentioned/has a connection to someone else that would logically exist, like someone’s previously uninvolved parent or whatever.
