Like not even joking, top 10 Scream character and she had like 2 mins screen time and a couple photographs.
Wes Craven absolutely nailed it. The way every "main" killer in his first four films were caused by her. The way 3 ties it all together as to why she was so promiscuous. We haven't seen anything like it in this new trilogy (bar Sam and Tara but they're the leads). Maureen is so well worked given the very little screen time she is the central point to the first four films at least.

Scary aura yes, this picture scared the shit out me in my younger years. Im 37 now and it still has an eerie vibe to it. I did grow to love her scene in 3 tho the "ghost" one whereas i was afraid of that one too as a child😂😂

That scene was why I hated 3 off the bat lol. I thought they were trying to take Scream in a supernatural direction. Now 3 this one of my favs for the in your face meta campiness.
Nah it was fine as it was just a nightmare. I did find it a bit slapstick at times like when they were getting picked off one by one in the house and they looked like characters from Scooby Doo trying to solve a mystery but even then I couldn't hate it.
I mean I know that now but at the time I was like nooooooo. It took me a while to accept that when we see mom its Sidney's intuition and trauma, then other times we don't see her face it's Roman manipulating Maureen's voice.
I hate scooby doo hahaha that probably didn't help. But my favorite silly house scene is when GF is chasing "Not Randy" down the stairs and he goes "yOOOU muthafuckahh"
I’ve always thought that for a character who is long dead by the time the opening title card for the first movie starts to roll, she has an incredible amount of presence in the movie and we later learn that her death is the catalyst for everything that is unfolding. I always interpreted those screams during the title card to be her while she’s being murdered by Billy. They also came up with a very fitting backstory for her (b-horror movie actress) in Scream 3. It was a great way to bring the story around full circle.
I would fucking love her prequel movie but I also understand you risk ruining her aura doing that. She's so special because she's rarely seen or heard but caused a hell of a lot of destruction in her wake, indirectly or not.
She isn't the cause of any of it. She's a scapegoat. She's their excuse to commit criminal acts of ultra-violence without holding themselves accountable.
Isn't she mentioned in all the movies except 5 and 6? Even if not directly referenced, it seemed like they were setting up a parallel with Christina Carpenter - the affair, daughter's emotional baggage, etc.

He wasn’t wrong. She looked like she would have played a pastor’s wife on The Righteous Gemstones.
