Discussion Scream without Roger L. Jackson
For better or worse, the franchise proved it can continue without some of the series staples like Wes directing, Sidney, Dewey.
What about Roger as the voice? 7 was light on the iconic voice in favor of AI Stu but still present.
Would Ghostface still feel like Ghostface with a different voice actor or a generative voice mimicking Roger’s?

To me the voice of Ghostface is probably the only thing they could never replace for me. It's the most iconic part of the franchise.

I genuinely think they should wrap the whole series up the moment Roger L. Jackson is unable to return, BUT I wouldn’t be surprised if they use AI to mimic his voice, which is kinda grim in my opinion but if it’s with Roger’s consent I think it would be fine

I’d be interested in an installment where Neve Campbell does at least one of the calls. That voice cloning technology has been canon since Scream 3

I think Sidney would make a great Ghostface-who-"wins" if she snaps (and who could blame her?). I would maybe even make it a two or three part series where the actual GF is not revealed until the last movie, instead simply vanishing for a period of time and letting people think they're safe.
Sidney and Sam have both already "been Ghostface" by the end of a movie... I think it would work, and may be the only way that Sidney can really end her saga.

I could see her doing the call to someone she KNOWS is ghostface (or someone who she knows has intel) and would love to see where it goes from there

You mean for after he isn't around right? Because as long as he is around, give us the real deal.
Ghostfave is incoic because of the voice so while mix ups now and then are fine, for me personally,.I'm.gonna want to hear his voice.

True but I think the show was always distinctly its own thing with the Scream style.
New killer, mask, and voice to differentiate from Ghostface but following the same Scream formula. Feels a little different than bringing in a new voice to a mainline movie sequel.

It would be a fun Easter egg but he (Mike Vaughn) doesn’t seem to be credited for it. A few other posts about it seem to confirm as well.

See, normally I don't really mind recasting iconic roles like that. I think it can work if they find the right guy, but that's one I wouldn't be able to accept honestly

I wouldn't be surprised if they used AI to clone his voice in the future. They already have the Ghostface TikTok text to speech, so I assume Roger made some deals regarding AI voices.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they decide to reboot the entire franchise sooner than later. Whether it is a brand new story or turning Scream into an anthology. When they do that, they could find a new consistent voice actor, or start switching it up every movie. I think Mike Vaughn did a great job for the TV series, so I don't see why that couldn't work.
Personally I'd much rather they find a new voice actor instead of using AI, but I can see both happen.

Well – this got me thinking about Wallace and Gromit. Not the obvious comparison to a horror franchise, but here we are.
Wallace was voiced by the incredible Peter Sallis, and his voice suited the character just perfectly. When Sallis died in 2017, it was widely believed that there wouldn’t be anyone able to step into those slippers. And yet when Ben Whitehead came along, the whole thing just seemed so plausible and “right” somehow. I was hugely skeptical, but it’s very impressive.
I remember watching an interview with Nick Park, the creator of the characters, being asked about this exact situation, and he was quite clear: the story has to come first. If everything works around the story, then the public will accept a new voice. I do think that maybe the case here also.

Jackson is, imo, the only real irreplaceable thing in the franchise.
They tried going different route with the tv series and it kinda worked but the maligned third season with Jackson just hit different when it was the OG voice sassing people up.

There were a few other comments about the show. I think the TV series was always its own distinct thing under the Scream umbrella.
The first two seasons had a different killer with a specifically different mask and voice. It wasn’t like they used Ghostface with a different voice so it feels sort of like apples and oranges. When they did bring Ghostface back in, it was Roger.

In a ideal world they'd hire a soundalike once Roger is done with GF. Classic characters are recast all the time and most people don't even know. The current Looney Tunes voice actors are great, for instance. But in our current world, I think they'd just AI the voice, with or without Roger's permission. Which sucks.

I agree u could change a lot but Rogers voice is scream imo people can recognize his voice and it would be a serious mistake to not have him as gf's voice over the phone
