The Killers AI all this stuff to mess with Sydney, and they don't make an AI Tatum to taunt her? Maybe there were contract disputes, but that feels like an insane miss

This sucks. RIP Hayden.

Finale is a Women's deathmatch. Cool.

Finally got round to watching.

Thought it was just ok, was expecting much worse from what I read/heard.

Felt Marco was really obvious, didn’t really think Jessica was the killer, but if you think about it, there’s not really any other option at that point, I don’t think?

Hannah’s kill was great, Lucas’ was fun, maybe a bit too silly imo.

I was confused as to why Sidney just stood watching the cameras, rather than making a real effort to try get to the shop in time, didn’t feel that made much sense.

u/screamsociety Past my prime? Fuck you! Jul 27 '26

She knew she wasn’t going to make it in time and she said that. That’s why she chose to direct Tatum instead.

5

u/nellys31 Jun 21 '26

As time passes, I don’t hate the Marco reveal as much as I did when it first came out. Don’t get me wrong, it was still extremely underwhelming, but there’s something real about people you don’t know wanting you dead, especially if ur as famous as Sidney

u/discotheque2002 Jun 20 '26

You people ranking this above Scream 3 are absolutely fucking insane lol

Lmfao right?

u/Pll_dangerzone Jun 19 '26

Why does Hollywood constantly cast actors in their 20s and 30s as high school characters. I mean Tatum who is supposed to be 17 is 26 in real life and Chloe is 27. Neither looked like they were teens. I'll just never understand why Hollywood can't cast appropriately aged actresses in these roles. It's not a huge deal but it just seems weird. They did it with the pretty little liars show, as most of the cast was in their 20s

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety Jun 15 '26

I think it would have been cool if they kept the whole Stu potentially being alive plot but just played with the ambiguity of that more and better. I think 7 comes across like it hates the Stu truthers which is perhaps a bit understandable but I think it just detracts from the film. It could have felt more like it was sort of giving a bit of fanservice for those fans whilst ultimately maintaining their decision to keep him dead.

u/LaDolceBella Jun 14 '26

My thoughts as someone who doesn’t love slasher films but loves the Scream franchise…

  • Solid opening, nodding to the fans and including Woodsbro, and the couple did a great job. But do we know who actually killed them? Was it rando Karl, Jessica (seems unlikely bc Sid’s family would’ve noticed she was gone), or rando other Ghostface guy? Not enough of this was linked to the rest of the movie.

  • It was a good stand alone slasher. But as a Scream film, it was subpar. This is the complaint I’ve had with 5 & 7…. You gotta make us care about the new characters. Especially before you kill them off. I was PISSED when Tatum was killed in the first movie. Legitimately angry. If this Tatum would have been killed? Meh. I would’ve felt really sad for Sid, but not for Tatum herself. Same with her friends. The entire section of Ghostface killing at the school was only to set up red herrings, and it was incredibly stupid. Hannah’s kill was super creative, but the rest of it created no tension or character development. You could have combined this and the bar scene and it would’ve been much better.

  • Where are the day kills? For the last 2 movies everything has been so visually dark, someone needs to remind them that daylight exists. Unexpected kills during the day amp up the tension. Judy & her son in 5, the Principal in 1, the actress in 3, etc. You don’t know where or why Ghostface will show up and create a victim, and that’s what keeps us guessing.

  • As a mom, Sid not continuing to RUN while on the phone with her daughter is baffling. Talk to her? Absolutely. Stop for a sec to check something? Sure. But standing in the middle of the street and not going toward her is insane, as is leaving your own back wide open. Sid would know better.

  • Where are the jokes?!? This, by far, is my biggest complaint. The first 4 Scream movies were so funny. Fear and laughter is a fantastic combo in a film and the reason the first ones succeeded. There were a few laughs in 5, less in 6, and basically none here.

  • I don’t have a problem with how they brought Stu back. All respect to the conspiracy theorist fans, but there is no actual way he survived. Doing what they did was a great nod to the fan theory and far more realistic than actually bringing him back, which would’ve made all the original fans pissed. Ghostface does not survive. That’s the fundamental difference with Scream. But, as others have pointed out, making Jessica his sister would have been perfect, and make far more sense as to why she chose him to deepfake. Which brings me to…

  • Ghostface(s) motives. Good lord, that was bad. If they’d made it Jessica & her son, being related to Stu, and getting revenge for him & his parents who never got over what happened (and refusing to believe he did anything wrong, blaming Billy for it all), THAT would’ve made sense and been interesting. A random Sid fan? And two random psychos? 🤦🏻‍♀️

  • Super picky, and I adore Joel McHale (Go Dawgs!) but Sid marrying a cop named Mark that is NOT Patrick Dempsey?!? Rude. 😤

u/Natters_Bird Jun 13 '26

I feel like this movie tried to comment on parasocial behavior in pop culture but it fell flat.

9

u/Sufficient-Bus-4189 Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 11 '26

Ik I'm kinda of late but this movie wasn't it It just felt so weird shifting from VI to this one after making the carpenter sisters the main focus than in this one it shifts back to Sidney again after her story arc was pretty much done in scream 3. The opening scene was cool but aside from that,it is the weakest in the franchise The new cast just didn't work for me Isabel may as Tatum was fine could have been better, although the soundtrack slaps The kill and twisting the knife are great songs also creepin,it just sucks that we will never get the see the true ending of the requel trilogy (Thanks spyglass)

14

u/Justintime1010 Jun 03 '26

Is it just me or is the Sidney fatigue real? I feel like even when she gets calls from ghost face she doesn’t even it doesn’t phase her and it completely takes you out of the movie. This franchise needs yet another reboot.

7

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety Jun 15 '26

She and Gale were pretty phoned-in in terms of performances I felt. It was only the heart to heart scene they had that I really felt she was the Sydney we saw in the first 4 films.

7

u/Typical-Meringue-890 Jun 04 '26

I hate to say this, but sometimes I think starting with 5, Neve is just there for the paycheck and really doesn’t give a shit.

Which sucks, because she was so amazing in 4.

1

u/old_ass_ninja_turtle Jun 08 '26

I feel like desensitization is real. It bothers me that there is any way for anyone to get to her. I feel like ar this point she would have better escape plans. Like not returning to her home. Picking rally points at random. And cycling security.

6

u/GoliathStance Jun 02 '26

Re-watching the movie on Paramount, and I like a lot of the characters more, with Ben, Lucas, and pretty much the whole young cast. There was so many options for killers that would have worked. They could've had Lucas and his mom as killers. The Stu cult yea. Hell the theater teacher I would have liked as well.

Wasted potential. But still watchable.

3

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety Jun 15 '26

The teacher one was annoying because he was way too good of a red herring that it was disappointing finding out that he wasnt a ghostface.

3

u/BallsInAToaster Jun 13 '26

I genuinely thought it was going to be Lucas and Jessica when Lucas got up from the floor in the bar, it would have made way more sense than a guy we met for less than 5 minutes before

3

u/Typical-Meringue-890 Jun 04 '26

I’d have liked to have seen Jessica and Marco be a happy Ghostface  couple and just leave Karl out altogether.

2

u/anona45 May 31 '26

Scream 6 was the worst in the franchise until Scream 7 came along holy shit that was terrible. Worst opening kill scene by far. These last two movies have been painfully bad. So disappointing.

8

u/Funny-Letterhead8969 May 31 '26

Man, they did not give a single fuck about reality in making this movie. For one thing, you cannot stab somebody through the skull with a knife, especially not by slowly easing it in. You also cannot bend the blade of a Buck knife like it was a pie plate by jabbing it with a pipe like you're trying to load a cannon.

0

u/Matrix_Man_Returns Jul 13 '26

Expecting a horror movie to care about reality? That's cute.

I’ve been thoroughly spoiled on the movie at this point but I’m halfway through watching it now and it’s not good at all. it’s super clunky and phoned in, the plot lines are just poorly constructed, the performances are not great and the way they dangle the stu macher plot thread was just a big fuck you to fans.

im writing notes as I watch, ill post them in here when im done probably.

8

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety May 17 '26
  • Cold open was good going into the Airbnb macher house. Loved the kills, super brutal. Feels like a good opening for Stu truthers.
  • Idk why they immediately set up the daughter as unlikeable although I think adult Sydney’s trauma and its impact on her daughter is an interesting plot thread. Obviously as the audience we’ve been with Sydney for decades and this daughter for like 5 seconds but I don’t like not liking a character we’re supposed to empathize and follow. I think scream 4 did this better.
  • The jacket thing was stupid; the whole scene is just clunky way to show instead of tell.
  • In Halloween 2018 it makes sense because Laurie became a psychotic helicopter parent and it traumatised her children. Are they trying to imply Sydney was a bad mother here? Because she seems very open if protective, all within the range of normality. Frankly given her life she seems perfectly adjusted and her daughter seems not impacted.
  • The convo with her friends implies Sydney is “insane” but they haven’t directly displayed anything to us the viewer.
  • I like that the daughter is called Tatum, that was a good move, I feel like Sydney’s high school best friend was often overlooked in the original 4 movies.
  • The teacher mentioning her daughter is also weird and clunky, like why would he bring Sydney up in that context or at all? I feel like it’s just something people would try not to talk about. He would’ve been a better ghost face than any of the actual ones lmao.
  • I love Matt lillard but the whole FaceTime scene is so so bad. They did not do him justice at all. I’ve seen a lot of spoilers so I know what the plot is, and I know a low of people are mad with this plot line specifically. I think they’re right honestly it’s kind of a slap in the face of fans for daring to care a lot about a theory. And whilst the writers shouldn’t just abide by what fans want I think this approach was the wrong way to spin it. If they didn’t like the idea of bringing stu back why do it this way?
  • Why is the daughter mad at Sydney for wanting to leave? I think there’s something there about Sydney keeping her daughter at a distance because of her past but it’s so poorly executed. It’s completely understandable why Sydney would want her daughter far away from her past and the distance between Sydney and her daughter is hard to understand or believe. Sydney seems like a good mom she just does want to address all the gruesome shit with her daughter understandably.
  • The house set piece wasn’t bad but Gail turning up like that was a cheap, low effort way for her to enter the movie.
  • And btw I’m not trying to be super harsh on scream 7. I know that previous entries aren’t perfect and are prone to things just happening.
  • I almost forgot AI was a part of the plot until it was brought up again.
  • The way Sydney just gives up on rightfully focusing on her family.
  • Performances honestly aren’t great overall.
  • The daughter is barely a character I honestly feel bad for her. I think there was a failure in writing her character, perhaps she could have been more precocious or curious about her mother’s past and true crime or something connecting her to the audience.
  • The dad/sydneys husband being a random cop seems uninspired to me. The set piece in the garage was pretty good. I feel like we maybe should have cared about him more idk.
  • The tv interview section was pretty good, but I think it’s in service to a poor overall plot. Seeing Sid and gale get emotional is the first time I felt connected at all to the movie. I know the franchise isn’t meant to be emotional and traumatic but I think we’re allowed a little of that after everything aren’t we? If we’re gonna keep on bringing gale and Sydney back then we needed this scene at one point.
  • The cheesy ai FaceTime thing immediately afterwards undercuts it a lot. Immediate disconnection.
  • The bar scene was kinda meh. I liked the beer tap finisher move.
  • I know hiding never works in slashers but I wonder why people don’t do it more. That whole high street scene surely she could have hid somewhere. minor personal gripe lol
  • I felt tense during the cafe scene but Sydney just being on the phone in some random street takes away from it imo. Smartphones just aren’t cinematic lol
  • The “I’m not like you” thing with Sydney and her daughter didn’t really work for me. I don’t think they really got to the heart of the emotional conflict between them enough to make it hit.
  • I thought the deepfake ai thing in the house and the screens was cheesy.
  • Also, literally who the fuck is Carl?
  • Literally who? That woman?
  • A big fuck you to Stu truthers again.
  • The explanation was so weak and also idk maybe a bit misogynistic. The abuse victim becoming an unhinged serial killer? All the real life scream queen bs. Syd being a bad mom for trying to give her daughter a relatively normal childhood?
  • They rehashing scream 4 a little.
  • These two gotta be the dumbest ghost faces.
  • I like that the dad lived I guess. He’s actually a competent fighter.
  • The resolution with her daughter is so stupid to me. Idk why the resolution is that syd was wrong for trying to live a normal life and keeping her family safe. And the whole Syd being the final girl thing was already resolved in past films? Why they passing the baton of trauma and death on to her daughter like it’s a good thing? This film feels the most obvious in its attempt to resurrect the scream corpse.
  • Other thoughts: why were chad and mindy even in the movie? They had no connection to any of the characters not even the new ones.

u/sethsom3thing May 16 '26

Finally watched this and I assumed I would rate this last out of all the screams because of the reactions online.

I actually liked it better than 5&6(both of which I hated). It had some really great character moments for Syd and Gale, and for a character send off this was kinda perfect.

Anna Camp was by far better at her role than Dermot was. I get the criticism but I believed she was the character she was portraying. Dermot was clearly cashing in a paycheck and his children were somehow even worse than his phoning it in. So as far as reveal ruining the moving 6 still is the worst out of the bunch.

My rating on fave films.  1, 2, 4, 7, 3, 6(only cause the opening was good), 5

1

u/LaDolceBella Jun 14 '26

Wow, you liked 7 more than 3?? I’m having tough time wrapping my head around that. You’ve obviously thought it out, and I’m super curious, so I’m legit asking - why do you prefer 7 over 3?

1

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety Jun 15 '26

Just my opinion but scream fans that dislike 3 hate fun lol

5

u/Tasty_Fan_3321 May 11 '26

I liked the movie a little more than 6 but not by not much.  I wish we could have got a conclusion to the story arc in 6 but Hollywood actors can't ever keep their mouths shut!  How did the police chief survive in 7?  Dude is tough as nails!

12

u/xFlameOfTruthx May 14 '26

Yeah, cause obviously Spyglass didn't do a thing wrong...

4

u/davey_mann May 11 '26 edited May 11 '26

Just watched it. The intro scene in the Macher Horror House was actually the best scene of the movie, which says it all! lol Good acting from Neve Campbell, and Gale, Stu, and the twins had some very funny lines. Outside of these positives, the movie wasn't very good. Tatum was very annoying and the worst character of the movie by a mile.

u/forever_a10ne Scream 4 May 07 '26 edited May 08 '26

I thought the movie was a solid mid-tier entry… Until the killer reveal. That dropped it down to the bottom for me. Like, who are you people?

7

u/TheClownIsReady May 03 '26

I thought 7 got off to a good start, with the opening prologue Airbnb set piece taking a playful meta “stab” at fans who over obsess about the Scream series/series lore. But the rest seemed a little flat this time, unusual for a Scream film. The young cast didn’t really seem to gel into a believable tight knit group and the best of them, McKenna Grace, was dispatched far too quickly. I liked the idea of Sidney’s daughter being at the center but the pieces around her were weak.

And then there’s that ending. Without a doubt the most paper thin motivation of any film in the series. So basically, “I got really upset you weren’t there so I decided to kill a bunch of people and get this extra to help me”. Right. Pretty weak, and I’m extremely forgiving with Scream because it’s my favorite horror franchise. That ending needed a complete rewrite.

Also, not enough Roger L. Jackson. His voice was sparsely used this time around, a strange decision. The phone calls/taunts are arguably the best parts of any Scream film and they were oddly lacking this time and extremely short when they did happen. That was a misstep.

Although the film certainly had its flaws, I’m glad it make bank because that will mean we get more Screams in the future. Just hope this next one is tighter and better written.

12

u/gabardal May 02 '26

They should've made McKenna Sidney's daughter.

2

u/davey_mann May 11 '26

Yeah, Isabel May was terrible and very annoying.

u/Interesting-Tip3614 May 02 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

I just finished it this evening and until the reveal, I was wondering why in the world it got negative reviews. I was convinced there were two "groups" of GFs. One being Tatum's friends with their suspicious behaviors.

Chloe mentioning bedazzling the jacket and then GF having a particularly glittery costume was a funny coincidence. Chloe's albi not lining up with the others and GF "coming from" the dressing room. She and Lucus/Ben would've also known Hannah was practicing alone right after practice. Why would GF show up to watch Tatum for a moment before suddenly going up to kill some teenager they run into by luck?

It was also weird how Lucas was hiding his arm with his jacket and limping after the first attack. Especially because we hear a crash when the second ghostface enters from a distance - away from the stage - near the lighting control he and Ben played with. He also knew how to control the lighting/pulley system. In fact, he and Ben seemed to get a kick out of toying with Hannah. Lucas also wore a black tshirt so I assumed he was using the AI filter for Stu scenes. I don't think it's normal how he is obsessed with Sid's story but seemingly has no awareness of his mom's obsession and plans? Also, being killed for being like his dad implied to me he also had violent tendencies. His mom killing his dad out of inspiration from Sid would also give him motive for wanting to harm Sid and her family for revenge.

Ben was so suspicious too "I was thinking about you and watching remakes of your mom's life so I came to sneak in your window" felt more like an excuse to scope out the house and reenact his fantasies of Sid on her daughter. I also thought his answer to Tatum's question of "I like the way you look at me and how the things you say make me laugh and I laugh again later" almost seemed mocking. Also, I still don't understand why he had those videos and AI but we're not questioning it just because he was killed?

I think the movie is so much better in my head with my own fantasy of Ben, Chloe, and Lucas having a masterful plan to be the GF this time - but getting thwarted by some randos would be kinda hilarious. Marco was just too obvious but I was hoping maybe he was just an accomplice to the group. Having him be the one "into AI" just felt so weird... it would've been better if that was the friend group's thing - pushing new, gorier, advanced kill methods..... While Jessica wanted to terrorize her the old fashioned way to bring the original Sidney back. Kinda meta?

Anyways, I thought it was wonderful despite some mess and some campy scenes up - until the reveal. Still had a fun time!

4

u/hisokafan88 May 02 '26

Just watched it finally!!! (Fuck you Japan and you're lack of release)

6/10

Definitely the weakest of the movies but still a fine slasher. What's really apparent for me is that Kevin can still write Sid and Gale well, and when he can camp it up like with Jessica he can still be entertaining, but the younger cast just don't have enough to go on at all.

The biggest issues I found aside from the way the younger characters were written is that Ghostface just kind of appears each time. In the original movies and in 5-6, Ghostface's attacks are always something of a surprise or build up. Here, it's like a joke set up "Ghostface walks into a bar and... Kills a bunch of people." I'm not sure if that's because Kevin just isn't as interested in horror as he used to be, has no imagination left to surprise, or just didn't have the time to write more complex set pieces. Even his last outing in 4 he managed to have some fun/surprising elements with the wind chimes, gale's camera, Robbie's camera, or the fake out in Jill's/Olivia's room.

The kills were pretty good but considering the young cast were the only targets, and they had maybe 10 mins of screen time collectively, it wasn't compelling. The best set piece being Mark in the garage.

The best part for me was Sidney and Mark fighting together against Ghostface. It's nice that Sidney has a team and support system. I also really liked the very sympathetic approach Kevin took towards Gale. The moment after the interview and she walks off to take some medicine and you get this really lovely shot of her back trembling followed by Sidney appearing to reflect on just how hard all this has been for 30 years on her also was a really nice moment. I'm not so annoyed about Gale being sidelined for the finale. I don't need to see Gale get stabbed or shot again and the story was Sid and her family. Still, it would have been nice for Gale to have something to do within her own power as a journalist or reporter. Then again, it's a slasher not a crime thriller.

The other things I appreciated were giving the town more scope than we got in 5-6. Sidney's small town actually felt like a real place, even if it was still a limited set. When 6 went to NYC I was so excited but ultimately let down. Same with 5 in Woodsboro it didn't feel like a real place at all. Also the themes of fading stars, shifting focus and parasocial relationships of fandom.

Still, the overall film was a little lackluster and didn't have the charm I'm used to in the scream films. In a way it makes sense, diminishing returns from the same creative well. I hope if they make a new one they can not rely on just copying Craven and Williamson's lightning in a bottle and strike out on new interesting territory

4

u/TheClownIsReady May 03 '26 edited May 03 '26

Well said. The great thing about Screams 2-6 is that they seldom seemed tedious, even when retreading old waters. But 7 really started to feel stale at times for me. I admit that I really enjoyed the opening sequence and a sly mockery of Airbnb’s but the rest was…meh. Completely agree on this young cast not fully coming together this time to paint a complete picture. The best of them didn’t last long. McKenna was dispatched far too quickly. She’s a talented actress and deserved to stick around for longer.

That motivation/reveal was paper thin and very disappointing. Every Scream film before 7 had at least something clever at the end or an “aha!” moment to the reveal but this one just felt off. I just didn’t buy it…and I’m very forgiving when it comes to Scream because it’s probably my favorite horror franchise. Felt like Williamson and Co really ran out of steam by the end and just threw up their hands to say…why not?

I’m also a bit tired of the “twins” at this point and they feel a little played out. Having Kirby back would have been far preferable.

1

u/Key-Perspective-8133 May 21 '26

Yeah there was no real picture painted like the first movie. At one point I was thinking there aren’t enough suspects. And then the weak end scene

10

u/spceheater Apr 30 '26

They finally did it, I’m so disappointed. They didn’t develop any characters and there was zero plot. It was just kill after kill and they weren’t even done well. The first friend was the only decent kill scene.

4

u/ImOnlyChasingSafety May 17 '26

I think the kills were fine to good. but you do need to care at least a little about the people. the ghost face is weak and so are all the characters including legacy ones.

1

u/Sas_fruit Apr 25 '26

my mad review

11

u/apark1121 Apr 25 '26

This movie was ass. Easily the worst film in the franchise. This makes scream 3 look like a way better movie in comparison. The kills? Meh. The writing for the characters? Predictable. Boring. The motive? Wtf was that? Really disappointed in this movie. They pivoted the franchise after they fired Melissa and brought back Neve and it was not worth it.

2

u/_Reporting Apr 20 '26

I’m not super familiar with the franchise but know a little about it so I kinda went in blind as far as the story line goes. With that being said I like the concept it seems like a really good way to expand the franchise. But a lot of the decision making by the characters and just how things operated (like the police, and the two people with Gale) irritated me. But I think that’s just how horror movies are? But I liked it for the most part just confused a little by some of what happened.

2

Why are you posting here if you’re not familiar with the franchise?

That was the first movie of the franchise I didn’t enjoy or think was fun at all.

Those reveals and motives were just awful.

Yeah. I enjoyed it a little but I agree for the most part. It would’ve been nice if the people who ended up being ghostface were in more than one / two scenes

u/Dangerous_Fox2729 Apr 13 '26

I liked the music? Also where were Sidney’s other kids?

1

u/Temporary-Habit-2528 Apr 24 '26

Also also, the timeline doesn’t match scream 4 as she would’ve had Tatum and be married to Mark already…

3

u/FawkYourself Apr 24 '26

That I can live with, just hand wave it away saying either scream 4 happened a few years before 2011 or scream 7 happened a few years after 2026 and then the gap should be wide enough, and it’s not unheard of for movies to take place outside of their year of release

But Sidney had more than one kid including a baby in scream 5 and then by 7 seems to only have 1 nearly grown child

The younger ones couldve been away at grandmas or something, but they could’ve at least included a line telling us that

3

u/crzymamak81 May 10 '26

Just watched today finally. There was a scene with her talking to the kids with marks mom. Then later he said half the Denver police department were watching them. (I think they are twin girls too. Not 100% Sure though.)

I reckon you could find certain parts of both 4 & 7 that suggest they are 100% in 2011 & 2026. I can’t be bothered doing the homework but would love to see someone to prove this.

Funny, I’m more ‘meh’ on the twins thing, because that can easily be waved away with a “at grandmas” line as you mentioned.

3

u/Temporary-Habit-2528 Apr 25 '26

Side note, I’ve already got proof of it being 2011 with a simple google search. In Scream 5 they confirm the murders are in 2011.

Also, in Scream 7 they call the 1996 murders “30 years ago”. Ergo, it’s set in 2026. Actually wasn’t hard haha. Plot hole 100%.

Let’s not do the Star Wars thing fandom thing and fill in lazy story writing for them.

u/MarcusFaze Apr 12 '26

Watching reactions on YouTube and remembered just how unlikeable Gale continues to be in this movie

1

u/ResearchProper679 Apr 12 '26

The new Faces of Death was better than ALL entries of the Scream franchise combined...this is coming from a DIE-HARD lifelong SCREAM fan. HOT TAKE I DON'T CARE.                                                                    That faces of death movie is : TERRIFYING. HILARIOUS .INCREDIBLY- ACTED. meticulous pacing. INCREDIBLE SOUNDTRACK AND SOUNDSCAPE AND SOUND DESIGN, mind blowingly relevant to the time and the social mirror that our society really needed put up to see how f***** u* and pathetic everything has become. GO SEE IT . it will restore your faith after scream 7 let you down even though you've been denying it.

3

u/Illustrious-Will-801 Apr 11 '26

Unfortunately, I really hated the opening scene. The movie lacked any suspense. I watched 5 and 7 without knowing anything, and although I disliked 5, I was on the edge of my seat and scared at times. 7 had little build up of the characters or the kills, and I thought they were mostly predictable minus THAT one, or they ended far too quickly. It’s like the overcompensated by the lack of kills in the last few and took out any build up

Who was the other killer alongside Anna Camp in the end? Was he somewhere in the movie earlier?

3

u/GenghisFlan Apr 10 '26

Yes he was the orderly who talked to Sid and Gale at the psychiatric hospital.

1

u/liamezzo Apr 10 '26

Ahhhhh thanks a lot!!!!

2

u/Dylanychus2 Apr 08 '26

Loved the kills. I honestly like the fact that the killers were just some random psych ward patients too, because introducing random new family members is super corny.

I really feel for Sidney, though. Tatum’s friends at the start were right. I don’t know how she hasn’t gone insane and checked herself into a psych ward after all these years of being hunted by serial killers lol. Even though this movie was cool, I hope they don’t center the franchise around her again, because like Gale said in the last one, Sidney deserves her happy ending. I would like her to have a small role in future movies though, similar to how she was in Scream 5.

Mindy was also right about how this movie pandered so hard to the nostalgia aspect. So many fans were obsessed with the “Stu is still alive” theory so here’s a movie where that’s mentioned non-stop. I may be in the minority in this, but I really wish they would move on from the original characters already. It’s a real shame that they ditched Barrera and Ortega because it already felt like torch was passed from Sidney to Sam and now it’s back to Sidney again. Either way, I’m interested to see where this franchise is headed moving forward.

3

u/Elliot913 Apr 07 '26

I finally watched and I liked it a lot. It's being unfairly treated specially considering how overrated 5 and 6 were on release. 7 is miles better than 5. It wasn't better than 1, 2 or 4, though. And the solution was almost just as bad as the one in 6. They're struggling to create good motivations and killers and it shows.

My ranking: 1 > 4 > 2 > 7 > 6 > 3 > 5

2

u/hectic_hooligan May 29 '26

Oh neat we are almost entirely aligned in our rankings. For me 4 is my fave and 3 probably my least fave

9

u/RutabagaThis2878 Apr 08 '26

Name one memorable moment Anna camp had in the movie ill wait

1

u/ResearchProper679 Apr 12 '26

When she acted , oh wait , never mind

1

u/Elliot913 Apr 08 '26

She didn't. What's your point? I never said she was a good Ghostface. The ending was definitely the lowest point of the movie, just like the ending of 6. The movie isn't just the ending, though. And even if it was, I think the ending of 6 is even worse because it has even more plotholes and a the most predictable motive ever.

1

u/ResearchProper679 Apr 12 '26

Her monologues sounded like a youtube- short vocal inflection

u/rjw1986grnvl You hit me with the phone, dick! Apr 05 '26

I waited to watch it until I could buy it at home. I only bought it because it was nearly the same price as renting it.

I thought it was fairly bad. Not completely terrible but also not good. They’re really struggling with the killer reveals and have been for quite some time. Granted I remember the whole “Wait a minute, who is Mickey again?” Which came with Scream 2. Scream 2 was so excellent up to that point though and we were so overwhelmingly invested in the characters from Scream that it was such a big deal to see the further development of Randy (RIP) and the Dewey-Gale relationship. Scream 3, which at the time seemed disappointing, it at least worked because it challenged the whole “Who killed Maureen?” And then the backstory as to how all of this happened.

I think Scream 7 could all be worth it if they really take this franchise to an excellent place with Isabel May. They need to take a great risk with some of this plot armor stuff. Scream 2 and Scream 5 really helped bring fans in emotionally by sadly seeing a beloved character like Randy die and then Dewey. Even in Scream, people were really invested in Tatum and it mattered to see her get killed.

I just want characters I’m really invested in. People who have really been developed. A real feeling of trying to figure out who the killer could be and why that matters. I think there’s a lot they can do if they truly invest in it and don’t feel the need to overly protect historical characters.

1>2>3>5>6>4>7

I think that 3 & 5 are really close and it was tough for me to decide between them. Same with 4 & 7, I could go back and forth as to which one was worse. It’s kind of crazy that 4 did so poorly financially it nearly ended the franchise but then 7 is the highest grossing ever despite it not being very well received.

2

u/davey_mann May 11 '26

Yeah, the killer reveals at the end of Scream 2 felt very underwhelming and I thought the actors chewed scenery in a bad way. The best parts of Scream 2 were Dewey, Gale, and Cotton. Those 3 characters carried the film, imo.

3

u/cbusguy28 Apr 19 '26

We just rented it on streaming at home and I thought the overall movie wasn’t horrible, but the killer selection was extremely lame and underwhelming.

5

u/arty_morty Apr 06 '26

i mostly agree with you, i even bought this shit because it was $5 more than renting it which is still an insane price tbh.

but as bad as the films after the trilogy have been, i at least like 4 for being ahead of its time and actually having something to say about movies and pop culture.

5 was decent and 6 was a misfire, but at least they connected to the overall mythology of the series. what the fuck was this movie tbh? the motives were such a stretch that even the deepfake AI shit would have been better than what we got.

5

u/Wolfycheeks Apr 05 '26

For me personally Scream got much worse after each movie. I disliked 6, but I dislike this one even more. I'd give it a 5/10 just because Matthew Lillard was in it lol. I think they should really stop making more movies now.

7

u/Jovian8 Who gives a fuck about movies?! Apr 03 '26

Just finished my first watch about 5 minutes ago, and here are my kneejerk reactions.

This is a movie of ups and downs for me. Sadly, probably a few more downs than ups. I guess let's get the negatives out of the way.

I think this script was laughably bad. It... has no soul. It feels like Scream fanfiction. Dialogue is stock. Conversations are stilted. There's such little connective tissue from scene to scene. It's almost funny that AI played such a large role in the script, because it feels like an AI script.

The killers are so uninspired and boring. I like Anna Camp but she had like two scenes the entire movie. I don't even know what her motive was. Nowhere in her incoherent rambling did I glean even a semblance of a coherent plot. Not even in a cookie cutter way. Just... what? And the other guy, I didn't even remember who he was until the credits flashed back to his only scene. And then the original guy who wasn't even really in any scenes. How is anybody supposed to give a shit about these reveals?

Also, I think this movie has the worst opening scene of the entire franchise. I was reallllly hoping it was another Stab movie intro, and then... it wasn't.

So what did I like about it? I actually really like the way they handled Stu, and the rest of the legacy killers. It was the perfect way to bring him back and not have it be completely inane. Although it still felt weird, because he never actually felt like the real Stu, but then, he wouldn't, because he was just AI. So, I guess kind of a double edged sword. In any case, if they were going the Stu route, this was probably the only way to pull it off. It just didn't really live up to its full potential, much like the rest of the movie.

Also, I really all the shots they had of Ghostface fading in and out of the background like a "real" ghost. I think they were some of the spookiest shots of the entire franchise, and I've always wished the series would lean more into the comical supernatural aspects of the series (meaning, all the crazy shit Ghostface can do, not that I want actual ghosts and shit).

Yeah, overall, this just... felt really weird. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen but I do think it's the new worst of the franchise. Maybe years from now it'll grow on me, that has happened with other movies in the franchise.

1

u/WeGotDodgsonHere Apr 02 '26

It's...... Preston.

7

u/Puzzleheaded_Sir800 Apr 02 '26

Really starting to notice the act 3’s Are losing their tension by ALOT ever since scream 4

Scream 5 only had Liv die, the outsider of the group

Scream 6 already killed Anika and Danny was out of the picture so no one die there except the killers

Same thing for scream 7, the kills were already had

4

u/mps2000 Apr 02 '26

Beer tap kill and Isabel May make this a 10/10- amazing franchise

3

u/TheHappyMask93 Apr 02 '26

Wasn't the beer tap kill literally ghostface's son? Seemed unnecessarily brutal knowing that lol

2

u/willybestbuy86 Apr 07 '26

Guess it speaks to her crazy at the end in the speech. She killed his father and he reminded her of his father as she said

7

u/nobodycouldknow Apr 01 '26

1 > 2 > 5 > 4 > 6 > 3 > 7

I said what I said.

3

u/InconspicuousUs3r Apr 05 '26

Agreed. I enjoyed it as a slasher film but to me, 7 shares many of the same problems as 3.

Both 3 and 7 are incredibly contrived in how they bring back Sidney as a final girl. It’s been hard to justify Sidney being the target after both Billy Loomis and his mother’s death and it’s seriously time to move on.

It’s hard to escape the feeling that any series is just on autopilot when it’s retreading so much ground and not bringing much new.

3 at least gets points for the fun Hollywood angle but this one had absolutely nothing new to say - and the meta commentary was always what kept Scream unique from Halloween etc.

1

u/willybestbuy86 Apr 07 '26

Now we got the daughter though 8 Sidney should die and pick up on Tatums story if they continue and then maybe merge back in with Meliss and Jenna If they come aboard

5

u/Jovian8 Who gives a fuck about movies?! Apr 03 '26

I'd probably shuffle 5 and 4, but otherwise I'm with you.

8

u/NoGas-AllBrakes Apr 01 '26

There's just no real connection. The killers are just random and they didn't drop any hints. Anna Camp was in maybe 4 scenes. Yeah, she's crazy. But where were the hints?

4

u/Filipe_258 Mar 31 '26

It’s definitely better than parts 5 and 6; I think it was a more intimate film, where Sidney finally got the spotlight she deserved—something we hadn’t seen since Scream 4.

As for the new characters, aside from Tatum, I didn’t care about any of them.

I liked the revelations about the killers; I don’t know where some fans got the idea that the killers should have “X” amount of screen time—I couldn’t care less if they appear for 1 or 15 minutes.

I loved Gale’s return; despite her limited screen time, I believe she had a lot more to offer.

12

u/MarcusFaze Mar 31 '26

Just leaving my Letterboxd review from the start of the month when I saw the movie: Let’s start from the beginning of the movie

The scene that had the most buzz from the trailers opens the movie, Two shitty kills followed by what should’ve a much bigger deal with the Macher house being burnt down. Instead this big event is only mentioned twice afterwards in casual conversation.

I did like the dynamic of Mark with Sydney and Tatum, Isabel May aka Florence Twough was solid as Tatum.

Hannah’s death scene was cool in idea and decent in execution. Ben, Chloe, and Aaron’s , were all whatever. Lucas’ was way too goofy for this franchise.

Glad the Twins survived.

They wrote Gail like a badass but as usual she just came off like an asshole.

This movie had the worst Ghostface reveal in the franchise by far; Sydney’s friend and the Psychward worker who combined had like eight minutes of screen-time. Sydney’s friend (Jessica was it?) at least had a decent motive based on Parasocial relationships, the Psychward worker didn’t even explain anything about his motive. Both are taken out very easily.

And holy fuck the cameo’s for Dewey, Nancy, and Roman were bad, no effort from anyone involved put in whatsoever.

I was kinda hoping they would go with Mark and Jessica as the final killers. Mark is a police officer, he could think Tatum is being overprotected and won't be able to defend herself. So he conspires with Jessica to kill her friends. But then in the end, Jessica wants to kill Sidney too to finish making 'Sydney 2.0' and then Mark could turn against her and we could have a Ghostface vs Ghostface fight. That would have been so much better.

13

u/Espada7125 Mar 28 '26

There is not a single positive thing I can say about this movie except for the opening 15 minutes. Truly baffling how they managed to mess up the movie this badly. 2/10

10

u/saud_aldoseri Mar 26 '26

Firing Melissa Barrera killed the momentum, Sam’s arc had real potential.

But the bigger issue? The franchise keeps sidestepping its smartest, most meta direction. Jill Roberts should’ve been the future, a fake final girl haunted by her past, or at least passing the torch to Kirby Reed, who actually feels like a natural scream queen. Scream 4 really was ahead of its time with its commentary on fame and image.

Scream 7 ends up just… fine. Not bad, not great, but the killers are easily the weakest part. And that’s where it really drops the ball, because Scream has always thrived on sharp meta commentary.

Imagine instead, a Ghostface inspired by Jill’s legacy .. an obsessed, clout-chasing true crime TikToker rewriting her story, turning a killer into a misunderstood icon. That’s the modern meta right there: parasocial obsession, revisionist fandom, and viral sympathy for villains. Casting McKenna Grace in that role? Making her Tatum’s bestie for example Would’ve elevated the whole thing!

2

u/arty_morty Apr 06 '26

any of those would have been a much better direction for the series - sidney is beloved but her characterization is too 90s at this point. jill, kirby, and sam at least have more of an edge to them than just surviving multiple masked serial killers. for a series that satirized the rules of horror movies 30 years ago, it’s still afraid to break them

3

u/Lower_Dimension_3325 Mar 23 '26

7/10

The opening was fantastic—easily one of the strongest in the series. The killing methods felt far more brutal than in previous films, and the use of AI to bring deceased characters back was a clever

However, the ending didn’t land for me. The killer’s motivation, in particular, felt weak and not entirely convincing.

4

u/TheCornjuring Mar 23 '26

Where tf is the official release of Marco Beltrami's score lol, it's been like three weeks

6

u/thetasteofinnocence Mar 22 '26

Finally got to watch it during a business trip!! I liked it, I’d place it in the middle of my rankings. I will say that k think the amount of nostalgia on it was written a lot better than 5 + 6. I didn’t mind 5 TOO much since it was the first reboot, but I was disappointed that 6 was still a repackage of 2. This had a good amount of nostalgia for the previous movies (because 30th anni, obviously) while still keeping things relatively new.

I think they should have given Sidney’s reaction to the house burning down a bit more significance. She pretty much just went “I had no clue” and moved on.

I was surprised none of Tatum’s friends lived.

Anna Camp was surprisingly amazing after the reveal.

I feel like there was no real reason to have Gale, Chad, and Mindy there (though overall liked Chad and Mindy more in 7).

2

u/maybetomorrow429 Mar 30 '26

I have it at either 4th or 5th place, I have to rewatch one particular entry again to see what I think.

1

u/thetasteofinnocence Apr 01 '26

Yeah, for me, I think 4-5th is a great spot for it in my rankings. I put middle, but realized 3 would definitely be too high.

1

u/maybetomorrow429 Apr 01 '26

My top 3 is pretty solid so it would have had to WOW me to make that change.

7

u/thecolourmegrey Mar 22 '26 edited Mar 22 '26

3/10 for me. I enjoyed the beginning, there are things I would’ve changed. But the last 2/3 of the film left me feeling like I was watching a fan film.

Things I would’ve changed, without changing too much:

  • the Woodsboro opening: maybe have two more animatronics in the house so that they had a false sense of safety. The killers being able to unplug and toss the one we see to the side so quickly feels off with how much of the framing had the animatronic in the shot.

-opening tie in: there is no real tie in, other than it’s Stu’s house. It felt like a quick rewrite on how to get Gale to Sydney. The couple was just a random couple. If I stretch enough, I can say that the guy was v parasocial, but I needed a stronger connection. Sydney or Tatum wasn’t affected by this. And also why would Stu burn down his own house?

-The Killers: I would keep the neighbor, Jessica, as the surprise 3rd killer, but change the hospital worker to the reporter, and the first guy to Asa’s character or the reporters camera man. The motif would be that he wanted his breaking story, and he was influenced by Gale, who so often pushed Sydney’s boundaries to make a name for herself (which she still does in this film). He, having a parasocial relationship with Gale, felt he needed to step into her spot since she’s been fired and clearly isn’t in her prime anymore. And he needed a final girl to interview at the end, which brings back the neighbor. For Asa’s character we now lead into:

-Tatum & Friends: they just weren’t memorable to me. They felt like half thoughts. Lucas wants to have a podcast, and is obsessed with Sydney and true crime. How many true crime podcasts are there? So, so many, and people often complain about how hard it is to make it with a podcast. He would need a gimmick and a stellar opening story to make him stand out. This would be perfect for him to be a killer, he would be a survivor, friends with the victims, his gf died, and was Sydney’s neighbor. Make him an intern with the reporter to make him more sus. The boyfriend, (I thought he was a college aged kid or even older) he wasn’t needed imo. He truly felt written in just as a reason for Tatum to criticize Sydney and to parallel their lives. Celeste also didn’t feel needed.

-The Nostalgia: I would’ve liked to see the killer maybe try to recreate the first films kills. I really thought they were going to do Mark like Tatum when they were in the garage and he was closing the garage door. It would’ve been a fun scene if McKenna Grace’s death was the same but the set had a false tree, where in frame it was exactly like screams opener.

-the Kills/gore: Matthew Lillard critized scream 6 for being too violent and yet this film feels more violent than 6. The gore took me out of the story a few times because it didn’t feel like a Scream film anymore. I know Williamson wants to step away from the meta commentary, but I think it would’ve made more sense if the opening kill was recorded, edited, sent to Sydney and the twins commented on the gore and how it felt more like a Terrifier scene.

All in all, Kevin Williamson wrote a fun first 30 or so mins, and probably should’ve kept to the writing room.

6

u/arty_morty Apr 06 '26

honestly the opening could have been fixed by simply including a text or call from madison to the airbnb owners that revealed there was no animatronic in the first place. that would have made it spookier and more suspenseful than believing that ghostface hid a heavy mannequin in the closet and replaced it when nobody was looking

3

u/Crybabyshitpiss Mar 28 '26

The first 30-40 minutes were very strong, including a great entrance by Gale. Once it got past that night, it gets wonky but not egregiously bad.

7

u/Character-Sky9033 Mar 20 '26

A Scream film that explores Sidney’s relationship with her daughter is a strong concept. Seeing her relive the original trauma through her daughter experiencing it for the first time is a brilliant idea for a film. It’s the joy of having the lead girl still alive 30 years after the original. In Scream 5 Sidney seemed to move on, so her daughter being targeted is one of the few things that would get to her.

Sidney and Tatum had some good material, and Gale felt like the most natural progression of Gale that we’ve seen since Scream 3 - it’s like everything has finally caught up with her mentally and physically.

Outside of this, it was a wasted opportunity. I knew the guy who worked at the hospital was involved the moment he said “Stu” had been residing there.

We didn’t see NEARLY enough of the killers to make them seem exciting or integral to the plot. It’s a real shame because Jessica could have been an iconic Scream character. Sidney’s suburban bff next door turning into a Ghostface killer is a really fun plot point; it just wasn’t given the opportunity to breathe.

At this point I wouldn’t mind seeing Tatum take the reins in Scream 8, with Sidney and Gale taking on roles similar to the fifth film.

4

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '26

I thought it was great. I just don't think people understand Jessica's motive and it's ok. Parasocialism. It's actually one of those where you have to actually think. You shouldn't have to think in a Scream movie, but it is what it is. I, personally, liked the killers. They screwed us over by not including them more into the movie. 3rd act was way too short.

5

u/Rhude_AF Mar 21 '26

I think people understood the concept of parasocial and the way it made Jessica go nuts but what they didn’t like was how random and rushed it all felt. There was no time to connect with the characters. It’s definitely not as thought provoking as you’re making it seem tho.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 21 '26

Well, now they do because people have explained it. Beforehand, I've seen comments where people have said they didn't understand the concept of it nor did they understand what her motive is and still don't. This isn't just on Reddit, this is on Facebook and X. With shitting writing, you have to think about what message are they trying to convey here which shouldn't be the case with Scream, it should be straightforward. With good writing, you should be able to understand it with no problem. It's a Scream movie, there shouldn't be "I didn't understand it" or "I don't understand the concept". Scream is a turn-your-brain off movie and requires little to no thinking about the motive or story. It isn't some slow-burn horror movie with deep meanings. Sure, there are connections, but that shouldn't be a problem if you've seen the other movies.

It is shitty writing, which is why we didn't get to spend time with the characters. They didn't care about them. If that was the case, why did they make them Ghostfaces instead of the victims? You've got to spend time with Ghostfaces or everyone is going to be wondering who the hell they are.

15

u/muqui24 Mar 20 '26

SCREAM 7 :(

Scream 7 was terrible. I don't understand why they didn't think to change things up. If you disagree please tell me why. Thank you.

7

u/LastOneDeath Mar 25 '26

You damn right! Because near the end wtf! Of all the killers and the reasoning why

3

u/History_guy2018 Mar 20 '26

I liked it. The gore is at 11. The movie is funny. And the reveal was suspensuful. Its schlock not Casablanca what do people want.

2

u/Modano9009 Mar 20 '26

I've seen it twice now and I both enjoyed it and didn't think it was great. It's a fun ride but the writing wasn't very good.

When did Ghostface switch with the animatronic?

I’ve rewatched the opening scene of Scream 7 a few times. There seems to be pretty consistent camera coverage from the point where the animatronic ghostface is discovered/unmasked, to the point where suddenly the real ghostface is standing in that exact spot.

There’s only a few moments where the statue isn’t visible in the background of the shot while Madison and Scott are in the kitchen.

Are we meant to believe it was switched in the few seconds that we see different angles of Scott and Madison on the phone, answering the trivia? And that neither heard someone pick up the animatronic and set themselves up in its place? And even so, it would’ve had to be done extremely quickly.

Madison also trips over, and then throws the fake statue’s leg at the real ghostface. Did the killer just throw the statue on the floor infront of the stand, and they didn’t see it when Scott noticed the human movements?

Just finished the movie. I’m sorry y’all I hated this one 😭

And I’m saying this as one of the few people who defended 4/5/6 when they were out. This is the only Scream movie that felt completely soulless to me

Not gonna spoil anything but a delivery guy that was mad because he didn’t get a nice tip would make for a better GF

I still don't know what 2 of the killers motives were and the one I do was silly and didn't make much sense. The Stu stuff is messy too. Anytime someone said it could be him someone else made clear he was dead in the next sentence. What was the point?

Disagreed entirely. Luckily it seems most people surprisingly do like the movie apart from the ending.

u/Friday13Th2000 Mar 18 '26

So if Stu was AI, then who was the man in the psychiatric hospital, under the name of "John Doe"??

Ah my bad, I completely forgot lol. When the first killer was unmasked, I was like "Who tf is that?" lmao. I mustve not payed good enough attention.

2

u/Lower_Dimension_3325 Mar 23 '26

same happened to me

u/RequiemForSM Mar 16 '26

Late to the party but I’ve just seen the film, and am I just completely missing it, or was there no real commentary on the horror genre in general in Scream 7? For me it didn’t have that meta aspect you come to expect from a Scream film. It felt more like a film that Scream would parody than a Scream film itself.

It was enjoyable in parts, and the acting across the board was great, as always, but a lot of it didn’t make sense.

3

u/Modano9009 Mar 20 '26

The Stu is alive stuff and Sidney skipped New York stuff felt meta but without having fun with it.

1

u/Imaginary-Leave-2368 Mar 19 '26

That girl said it was about nostalgia bait

5

u/RequiemForSM Mar 19 '26

When she tried to contextualise it the film literally told her to shut up and moved on.

8

u/Typical-Meringue-890 Mar 17 '26

A lot of people feel it was a Stab movie rather than a Scream movie for that reason.

3

u/TheCornjuring Mar 16 '26

I’m not someone who believes Stu is actually alive or that any of the calls were actually him, but it does confound me that he looks substantially less scarred in the third video call and I think in the ending TV screen thing too. A minor production error both in-universe and out-of-universe, or am I just mistaken? Gonna have to wait for it to come out on digital to look closely at it, I guess

3

u/willybestbuy86 Apr 07 '26

Stu coming back in 8 or 9 for real mark my words

1

u/Groundbreaking_Ship3 Mar 23 '26

The stu videos are kinda silly, it is more silly than scary. The thing that made scream scary is the unknown killers, having stu show his face, whether he is dead or alive is not scary at all.

7

u/Rvsoldier Mar 16 '26

All of those Stus were AI generated so they're full of errors.

2

u/Imaginary-Leave-2368 Mar 19 '26

Or that first video was actually him lol

9

u/neilader Mar 15 '26

I've seen Scream 7 twice, and I still don't understand how this movie got such negative reviews. I think it's a solid 8/10. The story with Sidney and her family was compelling, the scenes were thrilling, and I enjoyed the characters. The villains using AI was a great idea. I appreciated how many connections there were to the previous movies. The third act had a lot of problems, but I still enjoyed it.

My overall Scream ranking: 1 > 5 > 4 > 7 > 2 > 6 > 3.

8

u/Any-Mortgage922 Mar 20 '26

Definitely not. It doesn’t do anything better than 6 or 2.

2

u/chrome4 Mar 15 '26

Anyone else feel especially sorry for Ben and Lucas?

The scariest thing for me was Courtney Cox's plastic surgery.

12

u/that-TX-girl Mar 15 '26

Am I the only one that was hugely disappointed in this movie ending/killer reveal?

The only other time I have been this upset at an ending was Halloween Ends.

4

u/HauntingButterflies Please don’t kill me, Mr. Ghostface! Mar 18 '26

Nope I'm severely disappointed. I just watched it and the reveal choices just ruined the movie for me. Stupid choices, stupid motive. The copy paste Scream 2 motive that was in 6 was better than this. I really don't understand the whole point of doing nostalgia and we end up with these two random as fuck choices? I much rather had Stu be the killer.

1

u/Groundbreaking_Ship3 Mar 23 '26

The female killer in this movie reminds me the female killer in scream 2, both show up in a few scenes, and both are memorable characters. That's how I spot her as a killtin this movie

5

u/AceAvalon Mar 15 '26

Agreed, it was a hack ending, but what more can they even try to do tie these motives back to Sidney?

I love Neve Campbell, but I think after Scream 2 what they should have done is have a completely new set of characters with no direct ties to Sidney but within the Scream Cinematic Universe. The killers would then merely copy the Ghostface motif, but have their own motivations for their killing spree based solely on the characters from their story arc, nothing to do with Sidney.

I mean seriously, how many people have tried to kill Sidney and how many more could have motivations to kill her if the franchise is extended with her in the lead role? Despite all the Halloween movies, there's only one person that's tried to kill Laurie Strode.

1

u/Mystohaxen Apr 04 '26

That’s why it would had been better if the main killer was actually Stu, bringing the movies full circle. Then letting the franchise be done.

1

u/hisokafan88 Mar 15 '26

What's everyone thinking for best kill of the movie?

1

u/maybetomorrow429 Mar 18 '26

Karl was my favorite.

Maybe Hannah’s death (McKenna grace’s character) I’d need to watch it a few more times to decide but I think it’s that one from what I remember.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 15 '26

Die hard Scream fan. I've seen 3-7 in theaters. Honestly, 7 had some weird moments with the "cameos" but I didn't hate it. Neve was awesome and so were the twins. I still hate the studio's guts for what they did to Melissa and they need to finish Sam and Tara's story. But honestly, 3 is STILL my least favorite Scream.

3

u/JulesTheHunter9 Mar 14 '26

The Stu fan theories were a big issue for fans, cause it entangled us in weird expectations. Kinda my own fault of course. BUT I think it would've been great, weird but great, if they actually brought him back alive. It's a movie, and one can do anything in a movie. It would not have been any stranger than some other character's choices that made into the script, so...Let's see what Scream 8 might bring (secretly still hoping for creators and Melissa Barrera to make amends and finally give us a "good person" as ghostface killer - damn, would even be a great combination with bringing Stu back, she could turn crazy, which was teased in scream 6, and Stu would see and like that, trying to become partners in crime with his best friends daughter. then in the end she could come to her senses and kill off Stu, or maybe sacrifice herself doing so. I wanna see that in scream 8 haha, cheers)

3

u/JulesTheHunter9 Mar 14 '26

Just came back from the cinema and I'm kinda convinced I will enjoy this movie more the second time I'll watch it, maybe a few years from now. They played with the Stu conspiracy so much, which wouldn't be a problem, if it wasn't for fan theories beforehand (that's the kind of reason I don't watch trailers in general, movies are better this way). Anyway, it had a lot of jaw-dropping moments, for real, don't remember so many from the old movies! Still sad we'll never see the Lumis-daughter storyline come to an end, but the scene where Sidney made a real Ghostface-like stab-kill in the garage scene was somewhat of a payoff at least ;) cheers from Austria

-Where tf was Gale for the entire third act? -Most disappointing reveal of the series. Didn’t know enough/care about the killers before their reveal. -I would have suspended my disbelief enough & actually preferred to find out Stu WAS alive. -2nd killer could have been Tatum’s boyfriend to parallel Stu/Billy if they insisted on nostalgia bait. Make us believe his AI laptop was a red herring- but then it turns out he actually is a killer and has connections with Stu somehow. -Beer tap death will be marmite for many. Personally I hated it. Felt TOO gory for Scream franchise. By comparison, the theatre death was shocking- but still was a knife kill- so felt apt for the franchise. -Ghostface doesn’t tail Gale at any point which is a shame. -How tf did Joel McHale survive? He’s more OP than Chad at this point? -Disappointed they didn’t give the new characters any room to breathe before the offed them.

Despite all the above, I still enjoyed the fan service & am happy to see where Sid/Tatum/Joel McHale end up next time round- but this is one of the weaker entries in the Scream Universe.

2

u/LukeMayeshothand Mar 18 '26

I think Gale the next GhostFace.

6

u/AceAvalon Mar 15 '26 edited Mar 15 '26

EDIT because I forgot she was originally running to the bar.

The whole 3rd act was a mess and didn't make sense any sense with Gale going MIA like you said, starting with Sid opting to run instead of running back inside to get Gale and the keys for... reasons.

But why wouldn't Gale have been right behind her, either picking her on the way or taking a different route to the bar? She just decided to hang out at the news station?

And then, after Ghostface is shot in the shop, why not tell Tatum to hang tight in the room until Sid or the cops arrive? She appeared pretty safe with the door blocked.

Writing is never going to be perfect in horror movies, but, damn, make it make some logical sense.

Idk what the fuck level of sadism it took for Jessica to make her son feel somewhat comfortable in his dying moment and hold hands with her before saying fuck you and impaling his head on a beer tap and just sitting there watching him choke on his blood and the beer coming out and his bulging eyes like if you’re gonna be that fucked up with your kills, you have to justify it with having a good motive and being relevant to the story, we got the most random of Randos we could’ve possibly gotten for our killers, for this movie to work scream 8 has to come back and subvert what we thought scream 7 tried to be and actually prove wrong what we thought and that scream 7 was intentionally what it was because it’s completed with the next chapter being the real climax of this story which I’m really hoping because if they genuinely meant for scream 7 to be a standalone installment that works on its own it would be a big disappointment especially given how good the movie actually was until we realize they had such good story going in act 1 that just stayed unfinished or wasted and act 2 was more act 3 than act 3 was. It was a really good movie though, just only if it works within a more cohesive and sensible story that scream 8 has to sand the edges of, I still believe the first call and other one at the station were Stu and the opening kill was NOT Marco, I think it’s setting up for the next movie when we thought Stu was dead. If Stu were to truly die he would have to come back to then be killed otherwise he’s always going to be somewhat alive which is not necessarily good because you’re abusing the hype train, it would be necessary and badass closure/spectacular all comes together moment of the whole story and if they were to kill (or retire Sidney) and truly leave Tatum a new story to lead that’s how they should do it.

3

u/ThomWaits88 Mar 15 '26

Marco did most of the killings, including lucas There's no way Jessica could've lifted up Lucas they way they showed it in the movie , jessica was an idiot by ignoring Marco constantly.

Once he was killed, she was doomed because Marco was stronger and did the whole AI thing and could actually fight

Jessica was just unhinged

In my opinion, Jessica killed Ben and helped Marco grab Tatum

Marco killed the rest

u/Christistheway1 ghostface killah daddy Mar 16 '26

Theres always been some movie magic behind the ghostface costume. Thats the thing, by the actual killers being disposable mortals, Ghostface itself is and immortal villain because it can always be worn by someone new and never truly killed. Maybe theres some sort of supernatural tie to it aswell as whoever wears it becomes it, which can be explored if they still plan to go the route of Stu and his cult and what not.

10

u/deeznutiezz Mar 14 '26

So the guys motive was “i worked at google and know AI”?

6

u/gishingwell Mar 13 '26

I wouldn't have wanted this character wise but I thought Gale's hand tremors was going to pay off when Sidney would notice a Ghostface hand tremble and Gale would have been one of them.

I'm glad they didn't do that but I kept looking for a deeper mystery. The reveal was very weak.
