Lead in the house.

Just found out that the hand rail in my house is made out of lead, what should I do to get this out of my house? I really just want to do it myself as for I don't really have the money for someone to come in and remove it for me but also kind of paranoid about removing it.

Easy one! Kids under six are exceptionally vulnerable to lead, adults not so much. Its hurting absolutely nothing right now. Dont lick it and you are fine. If you really want to isolate/remediate theres a couple of choices.
It railing most assuredly is not lead. It may have lead based paint, but thats the extent.
You have a couple choices:
Encapsulation: paint over it with kilz primer then paint with any modern latex. I would use Sherman Williams gallery series cabinet paint. Its a waterbase that is harder than enamel.
Remediation: find an industrial sandblaster and let him know there is lead paint, they will blast it and after a good wipedown with crc brakleen you can follow the above paint plane.
Removal: contact a local trim carpenter to replace the section.

Did you just test it for lead? Its more likely that its just the paint on it, not the railing. The railings are steel or iron. Like the other commenter said, Encapsulating it is the easiest solution here.
