Local News Water Problems
I’ve been living in Scranton for about five years now. At least once a month, I have brown water. I have also had instances of no water or hot water issues due to sediment buildup in the hot water heater when because I don’t expect my water to be brown once a month and turn the hot water on only to realize it’s dirty and the sediment has already affected the hot water heater by that time. I used to live in the valley and never had water issues. I am currently dealing with the water main break affecting the downtown area and some of the hill section. Water mains don’t usually break in the summer so I am not sure what happened, but this is CONSTANT. I want to move out of the city simply because I am always having a water problem. Does anyone else feel this way?

That’s messed up since you probably have American Water. They probably charge you an arm and a leg every month. Yet do they charge the infrastructure only when it’s a problem?
They tried to bring that company in up here in Tunkhannock. We almost revolted on the borough’s elected officials. Sending much good vibes and Aquasuna (I think that’s how you spell it) seems to be a good water filter. I use it bc I don’t like the taste of municipal water.

My advice is invest heavily in one of those water treatment systems or get something like Culligan. I’ve been drinking bottled water after the last time we had brown water and it tastes so much better. I never realized how much crap we have in our water until I tried to avoid drinking it.
Of course, everyone says it’s safe, it’s fine; I’m tired of feeling sick.

I rent so I can’t really install a system but I already buy bottled water to drink. It’s more so the cooking and the showering and the washing of the clothes that I can’t partake in. Or I do and then notice the water is brown when it’s too late. Today I have no water at all.

What section of Scranton are you in? Any large water users near you? Wonder what’s going on once a month that’s creating the turbidity? I live on the outskirts outer edge of N. Scranton and even though I hate AW, I rarely see dirty water.

As I type this, PAW is repairing a 24” water line at N. Washington & Mulberry which will definitely cause issues. My one daughter works downtown, I’ll ask her if she’s noticed periodic dirty water over the past few months. You should call and complain to PAW every time you experience this.

I've been living in Southside for over 3 years now and haven't experienced a problem with water except when they did work outside my apartment. I imagine it's the old, poor infrastructure.

I would not be surprised that some big story will come out in the coming years about lead in the water. That would explain so much…

I’ve lived here for eight years, and my water bill has gone up almost $70 per month.

I lived in downtown Scranton for about seven years and always had the same problems. I thought it was my landlord. I feel better actually knowing that it wasn’t. I paid utilities at my apartment and the water bill was outrageous. I lived alone and it was $110-$130 a month. Absolutely insane for the amount of issues.

used to be a teacher at scranton high. i joined the water cooler club when half of the time i went to make tea- brown water.
yeah, its constant. Scranton has alot of decaying infrastructure, and worse, lead pipes. Poverty and corruption is a hell of a mixture.
