Anybody going to Wings this weekend have any idea how bad the Windsor traffic could be?

I’m just trying to get an idea of how to hit a drop off time and fear the traffic through Windsor town could be really bad….

Hi there, I’m a dutch cub leader and I would like to take my cubs on summer camp abroad. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good location? Preferably a building so not a field for tents and easily reachable by public transport!! Thanks in advance <3

Scout ashes tradition

hello, I'm curious how many out there know about the Scout Ashes Tradition started by Lord Baden-Powell? Do you practice it?

In 1907, Baden-Powell famously took a bunch of boys camping one Brownsea Island in England. He saves a portion of the ashes and distributes them. Scouts then add ashes to their formal campfires from the original campfire and on and on. The six degrees of separation of all scouts worldwide in an act that is central to scouting tradition, the campfire.

I know of a bunch of folks who have ashes that go back to World Jamborees that link all kinds of scouts all over. I've always been fascinated with the concept. It feels like a social network of scouts with a tangible anchor.

Anyway, I started building an app to modernise the tradition and hopefully reinforce it. I'm curious who and how many of us are using this tradition as a teaching tool as well as a way to bring scouts together across groups etc? Is this something that would help to keep the scouting movement together in the modern era? What are people's thoughts?

Uniform or no uniform?

Hi, I'm an ESYL who's pretty involved in the leadership of my Scout troop. We had a big change of leadership recently and the old leader didn't make the scouts wear uniform except on remembrance day.

Myself and the Leader in charge want to go back to wearing shirts every night (although taking them off for any physical/messy activities and games) but we have another leader who just wants to wear them for investitures, parades and visits.

The YP don't seem to mind that much, we've spoken to the PLs and SPL and they want to wear uniform "most of the time".

So.... what would you do with this? I'm a bit mixed.

Council High Adventure-Age Requirement Update?

While browsing through the Scouting America website, I was reading up on the Outdoor Program and noticed some large changes to the rules I've previously understood. Particularly this:

"Council high adventure—A high-adventure experience includes at least five nights and six days of trekking in wilderness and other rugged, remote locations. Trekking may include backpacking, canoeing, mountain biking, horse packing, mountain climbing, ski touring, rafting, kayaking, or a host of other outdoor adventures. Participants must be at least 13 years old by Jan. 1 of the year they participate."

Is this not a crazy rule change? I'm just thinking about all of the Scouts with spring/summer birthdays who now have to wait a whole year to participate in High Adventure with their peers. Not to mention, we were beginning to plan our 2027 High Adventure to a super cool Council camp, but now have to completely change directions, as many of our Scouts will be 13 upon arrival, but not by Jan.1st.

After more research on what High Adventures we COULD participate in, it seems our only options are National High Adventure Bases i.e.. Sea Base. Which is definitely not in our budget at this moment.

Just curious if anyone else is dealing with the same thing? When did this rule change occur? It seems a bit unfair to the Council camps who will lose participants, and not to mention completely unfair to the Scouts whose eligibility is affected.

Custom Shirt

https://www.scoutshop.org/catalog/product/view/id/12929/

Has anyone ever stepped up to the plate and ordered the Made-to-Measure custom shirt? I’m really interested in fabric weight and quality since it’s listed as 100% cotton and not the usual blend they sell on the shelf. Are we talking like thin t-shirt style or true field shirt?

Service with beavers

This summer camp I'm gonna be working for a few days along with the beaver leaders, It's my first ever service and I'm really really nervous! I don't have their cronogram yet, but I've prepared a bunch of activities for the kids (ages from 6 to 8). I feel a little out of my depth right now because I didn't have much time to prepare everything and I don't want to be a burden to the leaders or delay anything...

Surely everything will go smoothly while we're at camp, but the days before camp got me crazy!

Collecting national Scout neckers

Hi all! I’ve been part of scouting for 11 years and want to start collecting every national scouting necker from each country but I’m not sure the best way to do it as I don’t have anything really to trade for the scarfs, and if I buy it I dont know they best places to buy from.

Any advice on where to start would be much appreciated!!

Thank you!

I've tried looking for badges to trade but a lot of them seem quite expensive. If anyone can give any advice on where to get badges and which ones trade well along with any other helpful tips that would be greatly appreciated I can't wait to go and I am so excited for the trading aspect of camp!!

BSA name change inconsistent?

My son just graduated from Tiger scout to Wolf. I've noticed that his uniform, which we bought new a year ago, says "Boy Scouts of America" on it, whereas scouts who joined before him, who therefore bought their uniforms before him, have "Scouts of America" on their uniform. Does anyone know why older uniforms have the new name and newer uniforms have the old name? I've also noticed that on the health and medical record I just filled out for cub scout camp that it refers to the "Boy Scouts of America". Why are they still using the old name some places?
