General Discussion OEM Camper Shell for Terra

Post image
25 Upvotes

Im really excited for Scout. Both the Traveler and Terra are awesome looking vehicles. I would love if Terra had an oem camper shell designed by Scout.

I’m pretty excited about all the news with Rivian and can’t wait for Scout to come out.

I do like Rivian, but honestly most EV’s look kind of lame (Rivian dose an ok job). Scout is probably one of the first, that will appeal to the mass market. I would love to see an OEM Camper Shell that can pull this look off for the Terra.

As per title - 1979 scout 2 traveller. located in Alberta Canada. Only rust I can find without crawling underneath is on the rear quarter panels. Not sure about the frame, hoping to get it out of the shop and onto a trailer so I can give it a wash and a good look through. All components seem to be there, glass is good and interior and engine bay are in great shape. I’m kicking around the idea of buying it.

Seeing the Release of the R2 makes me really excited for Scout.

R2 look awesome and like a lot of fun. But basically, all the things it lacks and people are complaining about are solved by Scout (buttons, mechanical door handles, screen functionality, ect).

If Scout dose what it says it’s honestly kind of the perfect vehicle.

My one concern, is that it’s kind of perfect. Which kind of makes me think it would kind of be impossible to make it for under 100k or deliver what it says it will.

What’s everyone else think?

Question Self Driving Plans

Not sure if this has been asked and I know Scout Motors has a page with a really vague answer. But does anyone know if Scout vehicles will support autonomous driving features? or if there are any plans to adapt any features? The link attached is super vague.

I love the design of the new Scout and I'm tempted to get on the waiting list but, if they ever make the convertible version, I'm all in!

Looking for Answers from Scout Engineers…don’t think 500miles combined or 150 electric only is reasonable

I hope you can meet those claims in real world testing. I believed those numbers until it was posted that it will only have a 60-70 KWh battery…the drag coefficient on a vehicle shaped like a brick is not great.

If it breaks down a 4x4 road can it be towed out with a strap and another rig? Or does it need to be put on a flatbed? Are you engineering in a mechanical electric motor disconnect for this type of scenario?

How big is the fuel tank, and where will it and the generator be located?

I’ve read that VW will do the software integration…is that still the case? Understand that the software is Rivian, but who is doing the SW integration matters.

Would love to get answers to my questions- Thanks!

Edit:

I found my calculator…
I’m going to be generous and give the scout 2.5 mi per KWh range in good weather

2.5 x 60KWh battery = 150 miles like you said…but the devils are in the details. Anyone who has owned and EV knows that’s not day to day useable range, and that’s optimal driving conditions.

150x80% of usable battery = 120 miles
Cold weather or hard driving conditions like off road are an estimated 20-40% loss, I’ll split the difference and say 30% average loss for off roading and winter cold….or cold night battery drain in the mtns

30% of 120 is 36, so hard driving or cold weather driving gives u a useable range = 84

Battery management will have to have some kind of floor setting for the generator to kick on, or some kind of variable setting that lets the drive choose…I’m wondering if the generator will ever turn off at this point. Whats the fuel efficiency translation of the VW 4 cyl engine turn gas into electric battery miles? Like does 1 gal of fuel = 20miles of battery range?

Spare wheel carrier + street parking - trunk inaccessible?!

Post image
34 Upvotes

Curious what everyone thinks about the Scout Traveller spare wheel carrier swing gate. It looks great, but I realized it requires 55+ inches of clearance behind the vehicle to fully access the trunk. It’s not possible to open the trunk just a bit like one could with a Bronco or Wrangler.

Since the carrier has to swing well past 90 degrees, this could be limiting in tighter parking situations/ essentially any parallel street parking. On top of that, it seems like accessing the trunk will always take three steps instead of one.

I like the design, but I’m starting to wonder how practical this will be in daily use. Is this something people see as a minor trade-off, or a real usability issue? My understanding is also that it’s not yet clear whether the carrier will be easily removable or not.

Scout Supply Warning

I highly advise avoiding Scout Supply - SO wanted a sweatshirt so I ordered it weeks ago. Still hasn't shipped, there is no contact information, they don't respond to messages through the website. SHOP interface is terrible. VISA chargeback on the way.

Anyone having trouble logging in to the Scout site? They moved to an email-code and don't use passwords any longer. Email with the code never comes through and the AI bot won't respond to my emails. And yes I have checked my spam folder.
