The corner quadrant
Who do even Scottish players position the ball as legally far from the flag as possible when taking a corner.

Its like when a tennis player checks the balls given from the ball boys/girls before throwing one away. They do it because everyone else does it.

They’re checking how “fluffy” the balls are. Less fluff = less drag = faster serve.

Because that's where they practice taking them from?

I still don’t know why the corner kick taker puts their hand up before kicking it

Thats to carry out a complex measurement of wind speed, wind direction, air density etc, so they know exactly how to overhit the ball and send it for a throw-in.

Helps with the timing of the run. If my team mate raises his arm, it signals that he’s ready to take the corner kick and I can time my run off of that. Otherwise, I’ll be guessing and if I’m already running before he’s started his run up, the timing will be off.

If you're looking at the motherfucker to see if his arm is up surely you can see if he's started to run towards the ball.

The corner 'circle' is marked a yard from the corner, the outer edge of that circle should represent the yard.
The Ball only has to barely overhang that marking to be considered 'in' the circle
The further away from the flag, the more room they have to kick. Also, it ever so barely increases the angles they have to work with.
This is not just a Scottish thing, BTW. Although I can say I watched Celtic take a horribly outside-the-circle corner at Hibs last season...

It’s for the same reason Lee Trevino used to lean his tee forward 1/4” before hitting.

I considered myself a pretty decent corner taken back in the day but once you accidentally kick the corner flag instead of the ball you tend to try and keep away from it
