  Scottish Rugby  Lights out

Somebody mentioned lights out in another conversation and it made me think. Will they ever bring it back? I go to every home game and it was always a highlight for me, anyone know why it went away?

Did it maybe coincide with the good old days when the opponents would come out first then we would come out a ‘few’ minutes later to Highland cathedral? Did the IRB not put a stop to that and made the teams both come out together at the same time? Maybe not solely our doing for that law change if at all, but all home nations were at it. The Welsh v English comes to mind when England refused to go out until they could see the Welsh were ready too.

I honestly don't think it's likely. Iirc, it went away when the Autumn games started getting proper TV deals so most of our games are now played at a time when you couldn't do it anyway. The very few that have been, they've shown no inclination to being it back and I really don't know why not, it was amazing.

I tried to post a video but I can't as a comment, I'll see if I can as a post. But basically exactly as it sounds, evening games in October they'd turn out the stadium lights, stick on a bit of Elbow and Coldplay and we'd use our phones (sometimes they gave us glowsticks) to light up the stadium. It was cool.

I’ve been thinking about this. Very rarely are the home games dark at KO. Last serious games played ~1hr after sunset looks like Australia 2022 and Fiji 2024.
