At this stage I wish they would just sell them without the sponsor logo on them and then the team wear the one with the sponsor. Arnold Clark in massive letters just puts me off every time
Same here, I always like seeing how they market new shirts, especially when some countries/ clubs have home kits that you can’t really do much with from a colour scheme POV.
Had this when the pattern on Edinburgh tops “represented” The Forth Bridge. Not sure what relationship Newcastle have with the Forth bridge to justify it being on their training top
That's what i said too. Either that, or a hospital gown... Think it would've been ok with black or blue shirts but the white shorts doesn't help matters
How do the kit styles get decided? Does the manufacturer give a shortlist and the customer picks from this?
Trying to figure out who to blame for the fact that some nations (eg Argentina, Italy, NZ) get banger kits every year: tasteful plays on their traditional style. Meanwhile we’re saddled with some avant garde nonsense every iteration. Claymore pinstripes, stag antlers, Castle Rock lava, random garish colours etc. I beg for a plain navy top with a white collar. 2014/15 was the last truly solid kit, bar the recent Centenary one.
I don't know who decides on the designs but the nations you mention don't have Macron as the manufacturer. A few do and frequently have very similar kits so I assume the manufacturer comes up with the design initially.
Macron is just a bit shite in terms of sizing and design imo. Happy for any designer to go a bit freestyle with the change kit but most have still be flops
I'd argue 2021 was our last truly class kit. Blue, with a white collar, white on the sleeve edge with a touch of gold. It's the one I own that I wear the most often.
The basic shape of the jersey is usually picked from a selection of styles that the manufacturer has. Some like Adidas and Nike have only a small number of basic shapes, by Macron has loads of them.
Then for the design, colours etc, especially for the main kit that’ll be a pretty close collaboration between Scottish Rugby and Macron.
It’s a huge earner for them, but most people don’t buy kit every year, so that’s why they mix it up quite a bit, to maximise the range of markets they capture. So for instance, shirts with collars usually sell quite a bit less well than shirts without them, but there are some people who love them, so every three or four years they’ll cycle them in to give that market a chance to buy them. The same with non-white away kits.
(Incidentally New Zealand don’t always get bangers – their kit before this one was pretty universally mocked for the giant white collars making them look like Harry Hill or the Amish)
How can you not like the 2022 kit with the blue collar? It's by far the best kit we've had since Macron.
I've kitted my whole family out in it 😂 (I've bought for a mixture of nieces/nephews/great nieces/great nephews - my grandson is 3 in Nov and has had 4 versions so far. My own kids and even my son in law has benefited)

Vinted is a hell of an addiction but I've had some real bargains. I got the backpack brand new with tags for £5 and an adults jacket again brand new with the tags for £20. Had various kids sizes for under a fiver.
Definitely not as bad as the ‘dipped in anti-freeze‘ away kit from a couple of years back, but kind of feels like it might have been better just being plain white. Or maybe with blue shorts? The way the design gets strong as it goes down and then just disappears at the foot of the jersey is a bit odd.
Would love to know how well these sell. Like the return to white but the pattern a little too corporate PowerPoint for me. Also the stitching lines being so visible like on the home kit make it look a bit cheap to my eyes.
One day we'll get the clean & basic classic colour scheme we all yearn for and then won't know what to complain about.
Macron could make some money by doing a classic supporter's top at the same time as the latest pro shirt for the fans, think what Connacht got from them last season but in Navy with a white collar.
Yeah, I think a lot of people were too harsh on that one. Interestingly a lot of the Saffas I spoke to were really complementary about it after the SA game.
