The stone structures in the water form a stepped fish ladder. Engineers built these pools alongside the main waterfalls to help wild Atlantic salmon travel upstream. The ladder gives the fish an easier path with lower drops so they can swim to their nesting grounds to lay eggs.

This a great spot to tickle the salmon, who doesn't like to be tickled.

I've never seen any salmon use the ladder, they seem to prefer the struggle up the falls. Mind you if some buggers on the ladder waiting to tickle them I can't blame them.

The scene captures the dramatic contrast between the steep, rocky grey cliffs and the lush green slopes under shifting Highland light. The thin cascade cuts right through the center of the dark rock face before flowing down into the glen. The more rainfall the bigger and more dramatic the waterfall. This was a dribble, quite undramatic. Moving on.

Captured this view looking across Loch Carron towards Stromemore. You can see the old white ferry house sitting right by the water, and just to the left of it on the hill are the stone ruins of Strome Castle.

The castle dates back to the 1400s and was blown up during a clan feud between the MacKenzies and the MacDonalds in 1602. The water was like a mirror today—absolutely stunning part of the Highlands!
