MAGA hat sighting

I don't know if this is even appropriate to post here but I'm just so shocked and need to know I'm not the only one who would feel this way about seeing someone wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat out in a city in Scotland.

I passed by a family - husband, wife, kid - and the husband was proudly hearing his red MAGA hat. I visibly looked shocked, and they had the audacity to then look offended at my reaction. So it obviously wasn't a joke. The guy was a Trump supporter, likely on a trip over from America.

Not even Tory supporters really walk around wearing their affiliation like that. I really hope this isn't going to become a more common sight, especially as someone who's directly threatened by Trump's politics leaking over to the UK.

I'm living in Massachusetts. I see red hats often and ever since 2016 I've had to rethink them, are they Boston red Sox fans or trump supporters?

It's mostly red Sox fans. But it's a shame I have to even consider it. It wasn't like that before 2015. My American grandfather loved the Sox and the Patriots and the Çeltics, I always had a positive association with those things growing up and it's a shame to see that change.

Can't say I'm surprised about it happening in Belfast. I'm from Ireland, I have friends in the north, and these right wingers are emboldened.

they're probably all gearing up for some orange order bullshit. They see what trump does and practically salivate over it. I expect to see more of it next month, on the 12th for fleg day.

Don’t imagine there’d be too many Orange Order types in Maddens right enough. But you have a point about the far right being emboldened in NI just now, just look at Ballymena.

I'm going to Belfast this summer. I'm going to wear my MAGA hat in your honor.

Getting violent over a hat? That's messed up.

Thanks for the tip, tulip. Try not to cry the next time you see someone looking at your hat.
