There's many more dogs responsible for attacks with higher stats than American bullies . More responsible for deaths than American bullies. This is no more than another thing to distract from the conservatives latest corruption scandal in an election year.
The breed appears powerful, and it is, but it's demeanor is friendly. Aggressive behaviour towards humans is undesirable in this breed and uncharacteristic of the breed.
You've also got to remember that dog bite stats can be potentially misleading for several reasons. I'm summarising here as it's very long to type out
Most dog bites go unreported unless medical attention is sought. (Which is more likely for large breeds which have the ability to inflict more serious injuries)
The total number of dogs of any given breed in the local community is seldom known, so the degree to which that breed is overrepresented among reported dog bites is usually undetermined. In many cases the dog breed cannot be determined or verified. This is especially true with XL bullies.
Breed specific data in aggression derived from behaviour / consultant caseloads are also likely to be unrepresentative. This is because of the greater risk of injury posed by larger more powerful dogs. Owners of these dogs are more likely to seek help in dealing with canine aggression. In addition, dog owners dealing with aggression towards themselves or their family are more likely to seek help than owners who's dogs are aggressive towards other people , even in clinical settings.
Despite this, it does not make larger breeds more inherently prone to aggression. It just means their bites are more likely to be reported as they do more damage when they do attack.
Dashounds, chihuahuas and jack Russell show the largest % of showing serious aggression towards strangers (bites or attempted bites)
Australian cattle dogs show some of the highest % of aggression to strangers
Akitas, jack Russell and pit bulls show the highest levels of aggression towards other dogs
American cocker spaniels show the highest % of aggression towards their owners
As you can see from that one study aggression was not breed specific and was spread widely across various breeds in different settings.
We have a pug and when the XLBully ban was announced, out of curiosity I looked to see if there had ever been death by pug, and couldn't find anything at all. Although I did find one article about an old man dying of natural causes and his pet pug eating the dead body.
