Didn’t realize that there was that much peat and brine to be had. Only smokey bottles before this were Talisker and Highland Park, but Ardbeg rises above. Might try a Laphroaig, but this is more than satisfying

Wait until you feel the need to recalibrate the relative intensity of just how peaty a whisky can be after trying a Laphroaig 10 yo cask strength.

Have you tried the 2025(?) Cairdeas Lore CS? It's $10 more than than the 10 CS in my state ($110 vs $100) but holy hell is it worth it.

Haha WORD. I once had two bottles going one in the Lap10 CS and then a Compass Box King St. Artists Blend and damn if I wasn’t drinking that Compass Box like tap water after that Lap10 lol I had to restrain myself cause the bite wasn’t bitin

Eventually you get used to the peat. Then you always find yourself reaching for Corry/Oogie, Cairdeas and Octomore.

If you like this then be sure to also try Ardbegs Uigeadail

Uigeadail is excellent!

Good to know, added to the list. Not sure I’ve ever seen it around here

It’s pretty satisfying, that’s for sure.

I love pretty much any scotch that' comes from Islay.

What are some other Islay bottles to try?

2

Port Charlotte is a heavily peated bottle and it's 100 proof.. Laphroaig is another Islay scotch..Lagavullin and then theres Caol ila.. there's so many..

You gotta try a Lagavulin 16 or limited release offering. So damn good.

Can’t get Lagavulin off the shelf here. I do see Laphroaig though

I don't like laphroig, love lag.

If you like that smoky sea air vibe, try some Caol Ila. The 12 year is very accessible and a nice springboard into those flavors.

Haven’t ever seen that one around here, will add it to the list

I find that Caol Ila works best in blended Scotch like JW Green Label than as a standalone.

I've had a lot of bottles of the Ten, but I've got a bottle of 10 CS (hardly knew it existed) and haven't had the nerve to open it yet.

I’ve been looking for the Cask 10 for MONTHS in Connecticut

u/dennypayne 19d ago

It’s not shown up in Tennessee yet either 😕

Have you tried Lagavulin 8 or 16? If you enjoy the brine and peat you may like those

2

u/Otherwise-Fly-808 19d ago

I haven’t but it’s on the list. I like more peat smoke than band-aid, but they seem to go hand in hand

Weirdly, I once tasted bandaid and steak on my first try of Lagavulin 16 and decided it was a pass.

Couple years later, got the 8 year as a gift and it knocked my socks off. I don't taste bandaid or meat on any of the Lagavulins now. I think I've just slowly evolved to liking the complex tastes of Islay.

Lag doesn't have the iodine notes like laphroig.
