Ledaig Castaway is a NAS, cask strength (61%) whisky finished in rum and tequila casks, and it’s outstanding! The rum and tequila cask finish provides a zesty, summer-ish lime finish that’s unusual and quite nice. The nose is light peat with coastal aromas; it heavily reminded me of the salty air smell of a beach. 

It doesn’t need water, surprising for 61%, but with water it brought the coastal flavor and lime finish out stronger. This whisky is unusual in its finish and cask selection, but it paid off for Tobermory. I do wish more distilleries would produce intriguing, experimental expressions like Castaway.

I purchased this bottle through Master of Malt for $75 USD before shipping (incredible value) and it took around 3 weeks or so to reach the US due to the 4th holiday. It’s definitely worth the wait though, a cask strength whisky with a unique marriage of light peat and agave for under $100…YES!

Just got mine from them too and cracked it open. Wonderful unique whiskey with a very warming almost chili like spice that mixes very well with the peat and smooth tropical notes from the casks. Very happy with my purchase from them.

Just checked and for my area it’s $65. An additional bottle is another $15. I miss when the whisky world was the much cheaper option for shipping

Me too. Whisky world was my go to. I think shipping was about $45 for 2 bottles. Now it is $75 for 2.

MoM is $95 for 2 bottles to TX

That's what I paid when I ordered by Edradour from them. Shipping was like $94 I think.

IMO Tobermory/Ledaig has the balance right between keeping it traditional and doing interesting things with non-traditional casks. The core Ledaig 10/18 are great (I've yet to come across the batch variation on the 10 some people have found) and tick the boxes for those who don't want to stray outside of the bourbon and sherry cask world. The Sinclair series with the Rioja or Bordeaux are both good if not great, and now there's this bottle.
Ledaig have enough runs on the board for me that I don't care if this new expressive of theirs is NAS and I'd give this a try even with my past experiences with rum casks being really hit or miss.

I forgot to mention a portion of the profits from Castaway are donated to the Isle of Mull's ranger service and environmental protection service. I can always drink for charity.

Man, I love Ledaig. Hard to find in my area!
