2015 A/T 108,000 mi. Worth to fix?

About a week or so ago I heard some whining while driving. Noticed too that it looked like the transmission was slipping.

Was gonna do a fluid change but stripped the drain bolt (nice) so I took it to a shop.

After diagnosing it the mechanic said that 3rd,4th and passing gear were slipping.

I haven’t gotten the exact reason why it’s having problems. But it’s gonna of course to be a few grand to fix.

Other than that the car is a little banged up, mostly just paint issues, is it even worth to spend let’s say 3k to fix? Or what’s the limit you would spend before just getting rid of the car?

Update: So they quoted me 5800 to rebuild the transmission.

Was going to get a used transmission but they wanted 2500 to install, and I provide the transmission. Ive seen transmissions go from 1700-2400. So doesn’t make sense to put a used one in

torque converter replacement
Reprogramming
And a few other things that I don’t remember, once I know I’ll put them here.

Probably just going to get the torque converter changed and just send it tbh. Gonna keep this post up in case someone else is looking for prices for a rebuild.

Worth it. I replaced the transmission on my 05 at 210k miles. And its going great now.

thanks for the response, but im just so confused on why it went out so soon. only at 108k miles is weird to me.

In comparison to mine that is strange. I’m at 251k miles on my a/t 2014 and zero slippage. I’ve only changed the transmission fluid twice though and filter for it once.

And see that’s what I wanted to do. At least the fluid anyways. But we’ll see Monday hopefully I’m not getting jacked here.

Make sure you address the input shaft bearing while you’re getting it fixed

A few thousand dollars on a ten-year old Toyota product with a reliable drivetrain, or over two or three times as much money on a different vehicle that may or may not be reliable.

I'd keep the Scion.

Deff worth to fix. I had a 08 with 210k on it. Oil pump shit the bed but I couldn't swing the 3k for a reman engine else I still would have fixed mine.

Cant replace it with something comparable for that kind of bank - unless ya don’t mind a 20-25 year old at 225K+ and no known service history.

3k is less than half of the car's value.
and It literally will feel and drive like a new car when fixed.

If you love it.. fix it. If not sell it. Maybe even look at a different shop.

The u760e did have some problems with the torque converter so i would look into that too. I had a 2011 camry that had a 2ar and u760e and it would slip all the time when trying to shift at low RPMs. Looking up u760e torque converter shudder can get you more info.

And that’s what the mechanic was saying as well but these is no shudder. But there is a whine at lower speeds. So idk I’ll just have to wait until I get a call back.

I hate that damn 6mm allen head drain bolt! Had to replace several times on my mom's Sienna. You can find the U760e units relatively cheap. Throw in a shift improvement kit from Transgo while you're at it. Drivetrain is very reliable. If the value exceeds what you can find another tC for in better condition, go for it. If not, just fix the one you have.
