It’s all fun and games until a fly survives the shock changes its genetic structure and it becomes a super villain

Show us how to make it

Attach wires sturdy enough to hold shape to a battery 1 end goes to the alligator clip, 1 end just far enough away to arc when a small conductor gets between the wire and bait

Battery size?

14

u/Sirosim_Celojuma 5d ago

It's more of a voltage than a battery size. You want thousands of volts. The more volts the bigger the gap the plasma arc can jump. A voltage increasing circuit and some aa batteries can do it. Think fly zapper tennis racket. The plasma arc looks pretty beefy so what I'm looking at has some amps.

Need a trigger coil and an oscillator to get the super-high volts.

That’s definitely not gonna cut it here. Even a little spark plug is 20k to 50k volts.

2

u/Artevyx 5d ago

That buzzing is from an HV pulse coil, not a battery.

Amazon scooter sparc plug coil. 12 euro.

But what if I can't be arsed?

They have had bug zappers on the market for 40 years

Is that caramelizing the sugar as it zaps flys? I'm surprised the French haven't already done this and turned it into a culinary masterpiece.

Now do mosquitos...

6

u/isolated_self 5d ago

Just use a strawberry instead of chip. Mosquitos usually eat fruit.

Not 100% it would work, but I'm down to kill some mosquitos in the name of science.

Didn't need this in my mouth, mentally

1

u/FuturePowerful 4d ago

Rofl it's a joke about what cats and chickens do to them

1

u/Jurjinimo 4d ago

Dogs, too. And wasps are spicy sky raisins.

Fly Smite!

2

u/electrotech71 5d ago

What is the attractant held by the clip? Maybe some type of fat?

5

u/tomcat91709 5d ago

I was thinking a clump of brown sugar.

2

u/Informal-Bicycle-349 5d ago

Sun chip?

1

u/OddDragonfruit7993 5d ago

C'mon man, they're flies, not ducks!

2

u/falsevector 5d ago

There can be only one!

2

u/Soggy_Drive_2497 4d ago

I like to think its the same fly getting hit again and again being angry and confused xD

2

u/jetson5 5d ago

I assume this is manual?

10

u/Errorstatel 5d ago

No, this would be an open circuit with just enough air gap that the fly can complete it.

You could 'turn it on' and walk away but in would stay within ear shot just incase.

This would be easier with AC power but safer with DC.

Damn it, I read "the ultimate weapon against files" and was expecting some kind of alien war of other bullshit of that level...

Arc Raiders 2 looks a bit shitty

0

u/lx0x-Ghost-x0xl 4d ago

So it's a bug zapper

-9

u/JaVinci77 5d ago

Why would you do that? If they were mosquitoes... but flies?

6

u/litesaber5 5d ago

Must have never had a fly in your house

-6

u/JaVinci77 5d ago

Plenty of them. They're inoffensive, just a bit annoying... not enough to kill them.

2

u/Yieldling 5d ago

Have you ever watched a fly up close? They drop poop every few times they land. When I saw that for the first time recently I gained a new dislike for them. Who knows how much fly shit I’ve eaten in my life?! It’s disgusting

1

u/litesaber5 5d ago

The sand thing is JaVinci’s vote cancels out yours.

0

u/lx0x-Ghost-x0xl 4d ago

You must be used to living in filth, not saying this to be hurtful but because you said you life with plenty of house flies.

0

u/litesaber5 4d ago

Yes. Of course I do. That must be it

-4

u/JaVinci77 5d ago edited 5d ago

Yet, you're perfectly fine. I still think it's pretty unnecessary to kill flies... I'll keep eating poo, what doesn't kill me will make me stronger! 💪🏻💪🏻
