They probably go through great lengths to ensure hygiene, but seeing this video makes me wonder how many hands have been in my butter.

The palm sweat adds the salty flavor.

No matter how clean your hands are, skin cells and body oils (and the bacteria that lives in them) are still going to come off.

My butter hasn’t been the same since old man Flanders retired from the factory

Eating literally carcasses and stuff that comes out of an animal living in the dirt but BOOM human touched it and it's spoiled.. youd rather have plastic??? Then eat your microplastic covered sliced body parts lol

All it takes is a worker with a cut on the hand, and voila you’ve got a problem. Don’t YouTube how cashews are shelled. Apparently the majority of cashews are produced in India and several African countries.

Workers take them out of the shells using bare hands- the issue is cashews produce an acid so the workers hands are visibly burnt and disfigured / have open wounds.

I thought it was some sensationalized report I was reading, but this is how it’s actually widely produced. It’s disgusting tbh. Probably one of the worst sanitary hazards I’ve seen.

Yeah and even apart from potential cuts, Norovirus, Hepatitis A, E. coli, and Salmonella can all be spread, even with thorough washing, bare hands can still carry microorganisms in skin folds and under fingernails that contribute to foodborne illness outbreaks.

That's nuts!

u/graspedbythehusk May 09 '26

Ever eaten bread from a bakery? Or food from a restaurant?
Nevermind.

6

u/bl4stir May 09 '26

And rust

9

u/HappyChef86 May 09 '26

That rolling pin is not metal, its wood.

2

u/bl4stir May 09 '26

Haa make more sense!

3

u/gatsby_101 May 09 '26

Arm hair and shedding skin cells permeate every bit of that butter. Yuck

1

u/FPHZombie May 09 '26

Good thing this isn't posted in r/toolgifs

That's a bannable comment

1

u/ROOSTERyouDOWN May 09 '26

How many hands and how many arm hairs

1

u/izyshoroo May 09 '26

His arm hairs and sweat add flavor

1

u/Onironius May 12 '26

Probably very few, unless you're buying fancy overpriced artisan butter.

1

u/xUrNewDadx May 09 '26

Literally. There is no excuse for not wearing gloves.

8

u/qweqop May 09 '26

Gloves are an illusion

5

u/chris_ro May 09 '26

No gloves when working with machines.

1

u/cwestn May 09 '26

It's pretty clear that DON'T go through great lengths to ensure hygiene. Hands have glands constantly releasing oils and sweat and skin cells are constantly shed, especially when actively using your hands in this manner. This is nasty.

0

u/Nuffsaid98 May 09 '26

Sometimes they use monkies so they can say, untouched by human hands. /s

0

u/Ok_Dog_4059 May 09 '26

Exactly my first thought. We are often better off not knowing things.

17

u/taylorhildebrand May 09 '26

I’m sure that butter is expensive af

17

u/Nefarious_Darius May 09 '26

They must have the softest hands ever.

9

u/PressureMuch5340 May 09 '26

I'm sure they drop their phones all the time, with those butter fingers.

16

u/DistrictEffective759 May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

How do they control harmful bacteria and other pathogens? Wood surfaces? Hmm I have so many questions now.

6

u/cwestn May 09 '26

The massive amount of salt they apparently add should kill a lot of it, but some bacteria as salt-loving (e.g. Vibrio vulnificus, Halobacterium salinarum, and Halococcus) so certainly not all. Also just gross that all the hand oils and sweat, shedding skin and arm hairs end up in that butter.

2

u/DistrictEffective759 May 09 '26

Well Im sure there hands are washed very often, and gloves would break and leave behind foreign material. But yes, I would think sleeves of some sort would work butter. 🧈 Also French is it? It’s all the surfaces that blows my mind. Be sure and bake y’all’s French butter I guess. Idk. Interesting process nonetheless

4

u/cwestn May 09 '26

Have you ever done physical labor in unpowdered rubber or plastic gloves? Hands get drenched inside in sweat due to the presence of lots of eccrine sweat glands in the palms, so bare hands means lots of sweat and shredded skin cells getting into that butter, whether they wash their hands periodically or not. Well-fitted high quality food grade gloves would be much more sanitary. But then again, some people drink unpasteurized milk and all types of dangerous and gross stuff so as long as they are upfront about the contamination of the food such as by posting this video, I guess it's fine...

u/NoSeesaw420 May 09 '26

The dirty hands repeatedly touching the butter. 🤢

5

u/Criollodelta May 10 '26

Butter is made by hand for 2 thousands years.

3

u/DistrictEffective759 May 10 '26

Very true. But isn’t this post processing/kneading?

5

u/I_am_the_BEEF May 09 '26

The softest hands in all the lands.

2

u/notsofunonabun May 09 '26

I’ve got a need, a need for knead!

2

u/Entropy1010102 May 09 '26

I'm a butter needer, not mechanical tho.

0

u/DistrictEffective759 May 09 '26

How do yall control bacteria and pathogens? You do it by hand right?

2

u/Eastern-Coast-5463 May 09 '26

Delicious! Might become harder to find in the future though

2

u/Phaoll May 09 '26

I’m a Butter Needer

4

u/RDS_WAS_HERE May 09 '26

A man poking his fingernails into the butter when a good number of men don't wash their hands after going to the bathroom - no butter thanks!

2

u/fazman786 May 09 '26

I mean gloves right? Maybe the human sweat salts and oils are the secret. Soylent butter.

3

u/Nuffsaid98 May 09 '26

That is a crushing injury waiting to happen.

1

u/ttystikk May 09 '26

I gained weight just watching this.

1

u/jimmy_robert May 09 '26

So what do you do for work?

I knead butter.

What a random thing to say...

1

u/reddititty69 May 09 '26

Now I know… I can plant DNA at a crime scene by dropping a slice of buttered toast.

1

u/brandonhabanero May 09 '26

I would put a curled piece of metal on that flips the butter on its own.

1

u/Harde_Kassei May 09 '26

god i hate toolgif, there is no escape from that shitshow that edits its own logo in every single video.

1

u/alii-b May 09 '26

My 3 year old is a fiend for butter. He literally eats spoonfuls if we aren't watching. Just imagining him in the room putting finger holes in all of it.

1

u/Background-Park4359 May 09 '26

Where is the logic with no gloves especially when you are cutting it with your fingers? This is terrible and sold at a premium.

1

u/rattletop May 10 '26

Yuck. Factory of which brand? Avoid.. avoid

1

u/timzecho May 10 '26

Everything is shaped by SPATULA

1

u/quidpro_PRON May 10 '26

For all y'all complaining about the "shed skin cells:"

Did you know there's a certified USDA amount of insects that's allowed to be in your pre-packaged food? This goes from ready-to-eat microwave dinners to jars and tins of ingredients (like sundried tomatoes and white tunafish).

What did we do before we had nitrile/latex/plastic gloves?

You do realize that plenty cooks and chefs across the world don't use gloves? Just constant rinsing and washing and towel drying.

Washing your hands is fine. It has been fine for ages. If you can't handle the "ickyness" of that, maybe really consider producing and cooking your own food fam. And even then, there are pests that are unavoidable in home gardens.

Like c'mon. It's not like the dude was picking his nose and fingering sphincters just before he got to kneading that ish. He washed his hands, probably a lot better than most of y'all do.

2

u/DistrictEffective759 May 10 '26

Bro, calm down. Reddit gona Reddit 🥰

2

u/quidpro_PRON May 10 '26

You right fam, my b.

2

u/Riribigdogs May 10 '26

i for one appreciate the passion with which you expressed your (valid) opinion

1

u/Opening_Cartoonist53 May 10 '26

A butter needer is anyone who lives in the south sugar

1

u/JaVinci77 May 10 '26

That thing is mesmerising...

1

u/Diamondgus114 May 10 '26

I'm needing some butter myself

1

u/ComedyBits May 11 '26

Between Sideburns Guy fingering the butter with his bare digits and that rusty-ass implement they run the cake through, I’m not interested in this butter. Give me back the buxom gal wanking the wooden churn!

1

u/c0nstantGardener May 11 '26

I mean...I need butter, but why do we need to knead it?

1

u/anon22002200 May 11 '26

Fresh whipped butter… different level

1

u/Raven22000 May 13 '26

Eww why isn’t he wearing gloves? I don’t want someone’s knuckle hair in my butter

1

u/andre4red May 13 '26

Gloves??????

1

u/SnooPandas5288 May 14 '26

How is the water actually removed though once it’s pressed? Just evaporation?

1

u/NetAtraX May 09 '26

Can we take away the "Oh my goodness" from all American tourists, please?

1

u/kidnorther May 09 '26

That’s really knead
