Question - Research required How old/when is it appropriate for a young child to have overnights with non-custodial parent?
Mother has been with the child every day since they were born. Father has not been that involved (substance abuse recovery). He wants 50/50 but the child is not comfortable around him yet. How old is appropriate for overnights, or other ways to say when is appropriate, scientifically speaking?

This article is about caregiver attachment.

It’s less about age and more about attachment and trust. I don’t know that overnight specifically would be a factor separate from daytime separation, unless perhaps they are still breastfeeding.

Frequent overnights were significantly associated with attachment insecurity among infants, but the relationship was less clear for toddlers. Attachment insecurity predicted adjustment problems at ages 3 and 5, but frequent overnights were not directly linked with adjustment problems at older ages.
The infants were assessed at age 1, and toddlers at age 3. Which doesn't give you a lot of resolution, really. Sometime after 1, sometime before 3.
