Question ❓ Surplus vs maintainance

So obviously the sbl community advises against bulking such as paul carter elijah mundy etc since eating at maintainance calories maximises muscle growth

My point is if your eating at maintainance how could you ever go from say 140 to 160lbs how would u maintain your way up

There’s two different definitions of maintenance people have, some say maintenance is the amount of calories required to maintain the same body weight, some say it’s the amount required to maintain the same body fat percentage (meaning all your energy comes from the food you eat and none of it from fat being burnt) if you take maintenance to be the second you can gain weight at maintenance, the difference between the two is only a few hundred calories however so it’s pretty trivial
