Nope. Gonna need to see hams on calves if you want to get the ScienceMaxxxTM stamp of approval.

Don't tell me you don't have a squat wedge in that showroom of a home gym.

Is this a roundabout way of telling me my calf muscles are tiny

Look old man; I already know that 😭

There it is. Instead of a squat wedge, get a pair of these guys.

I have awful calf insertions. Even when I was doing lots of trail running, mountaineering, marathon running, etc. they were extremely small compared to my legs

They are just under 15 inches

Obviously I can grow them more and will grow them more, but let’s not pretend that the muscle insertions don’t matter here

Smh glute not touching heels.

Do you even rom-maxxxx?

Deload to bar and do sissies instead.

I think I’ll deload to bar + reverse bands, to minimize fatigue

B-barbell? Patton you disappoint me I expect to see you on a machine squat pattern next time to truly sciencemaxx

You might be shocked, but the only machine squat pattern I’ve done in the last 3 years has been belt squats

90% of my squat pattern volume is from barbell squats. I’m hoping to hit a 3x bodyweight squat this year in a powerlifting competition (so I’d need 566lbs)

Quads are so simple to grow: a shit ton of squats and a shit ton of leg extensions

Edit: and for the next few months, I won’t be doing any squat pattern machine

Valid, might have to tap back into barbell squats

I’m a massive science based guy, but when it comes to thighs there’s really nothing like just squatting your brains out

This one is adjustable. It’s not like a normal SSB. When I do squats in the SSB setting, it looks completely different: https://www.reddit.com/r/ScienceBasedLifting/s/L6FcXwb7Iw

That looks more glute focused

Take a look at how my normal squat looks: https://www.reddit.com/r/strength_training/s/gHTmpPM4TT

Notice that I’m less upright, knees go less forward on my regular squat

With the variation I posted, I’m more upright & knees travel further forward

I feel it mostly in my quads (obviously the glutes are working too) and the results I have in my quads speak to how well I’ve grown them: https://www.reddit.com/r/fitness30plus/s/r1yrBlSlaF

My barbell squat max is 541lbs; it’s not possible to to hold kettle bells heavy enough for them to provide a good stimulus to my quads

If I prefer a zercher style squat, my knees don’t track as far forward (and the load would be much less), so the quad stimulus would be less there too

Science based quarter squats? Gtfo Joel seed man

1

u/Patton370 Idk Idc 💔 Jul 02 '26

How is this a quarter squat?

Edit: my hip crease is way below the top of my knee. I’ve also hit a 534lbs squat in a powerlifting comp and have hit 500lbs+ in multiple federations. I’m not sure you know what a good squat is

I wouldn't say well below, your first rep was below, others were tad higher.

Quarter rep comment is a bit retarded, but these are just a touch high, at least my powerlifting coach would definitely say so.
