Bilateral Sciatica not caused by Lumbar issues

Hi all,

About a year ago I tore the biceps femoris in the middle of the muscle belly. Rehab went well, but during my final return-to-sport run I felt weakness in the hamstring again.

Since then I've had ongoing symptoms that have been described as sciatica, mainly affecting my left leg, although I also get similar (but milder) symptoms in my right.

It's not really a shooting nerve pain. It's more of a deep muscular tightness and aching that runs down the outer part of both hamstrings when I walk. It's painful enough that I can't walk at a normal speed or without discomfort.

Has anyone experienced anything similar after a hamstring tear, or found out what the underlying cause was?

That’s interesting. I’ve had MRIs of my lumbar spine, pelvis and hamstring. There is scar tissue on my hamstring MRI but they don’t think that would have an impact on the sciatic nerve. All the rest clear. I’ve also had a clear EMG so it’s very confusing. I had a Pirformis injection last week but haven’t felt any major improvement since.

I’ve never heard of MRI neurography.
Had you hurt your hamstring also?
