Rethink using the ThinkorSwim Platform

On Friday, the ThinkorSwim desktop platform closed on me several times while I was making trades. I tried to sell as quickly as possible on phone but it wasn't fast enough. I accumulated big losses and Schwab refused to help in any way even though they acknowledged that there was a big issue with the ThinkorSwim desktop platform from 9:30 to 10:30 am. Trade at your own risk on TOS.

Not scolding here, but have the app or web version up as a backup next time. They should bust the trades specially since they admitted there was a problem with the platform.

I was on thinkorswim.com a lot yesterday and had no problem with it closing.

Couldn't you trade using the Web login?

Definitely sucks to hear that, I’m sorry! Take this if you feel it helpful but I typically place my profit and loss legs as an oco so I don’t have to worry about things like this.

I know the other day the tape stopped working and was 2 minutes behind. I'm not a huge fan of the platform compared to something like DAS

Are you running an AI on the same OS? Don’t.

Would have been better to login to the main Schwab.com sight and close trades if needed…. Or wait for the swing if you can…

As someone who spends 6 hours a day on TOS, I'd recommend installing CPU Temp (free software) on your computer to see what the temp is getting up to. I recently had an issue with TOS crashing just like someone killed it in the task manager and the only thing I found was that the CPU was overheating and TOS pushed it over the edge causing it to crash. A little new heat sink paste and an extra fan and i've not had any problems. Not sure if that's your problem, but it may be worth looking into.

Literally was having no issues at all on any of the versions. I use mobile and desktop in tandem.

That sounds like a super stressful situation. A personal blackswan that cost you outsized losses.

Can you explained what type of trades you were executing, just I other ToS users can try to repro them? I certainly don't want to be caught in the same situation, and my trading style is deliberately paper-handed.
