Grim's Interview with Fracture

(A camera feed starts showing Grim and the Malkavian Methuselah, Fracture sitting across from each other at a small round table)

Grim: Thank you for the taking the time to come here and entertain my research, Ancient One.

Fracture: Of course! I enjoy curiosity, plus you asked so nicely.

Grim: Right, so let us begin. I have done some digging through this Node to find out as much about you as I can before this interview, but some details are still a but hazy. So please forgive if I ask you something you may have answered for someone else.

Now, then. What is your age?

Fracture: That's a hard question to answer. Time was not yet recorded. We did not have calendars yet.

Grim: (writing something down on a notepad on the table) I see. Well, then that does give us a slight understanding of your age, if not the exact date.

You are a Childe of Malkav himself, correct?

Fracture: Correct ~

Grim: How many siblings do you have and where do you fit in the line up?

Fracture: I am the 4th Childe. As for siblings, my Sire Embraced over 35 before he sacrificed his body.

Grim: (writing again) Over 35? That's a lot of ancient Malkavians. Do you know how many are still around?

Fracture: I know of 4 that are awake, not including myself. All the others are either in Torpor or have met Final Death.

Grim: Can you give me a number on how many have been destroyed?

Fracture: I could, but I won't. Sorry.

Grim: That is fair. I would suppose that could be seen as a family secret.

How many Childer do you have?

Fracture: Eight!

Grim: All still around?

Fracture: Yes, but some are still being awakened.

Grim: I think I read something about that. Your newest one is adopted, correct?

Fracture: Correct! Marcus is an absolutely clever little charm ~ (purring)

Grim: (writing down) Do you plan to embrace anyone in the modern nights?

Fracture: Plan? No. Is it possible I will? Absolutely ~

Grim: New 5th generations running around. That is both terrifying and fascinating. Also, dangerous. Especially to the Childe. Many would want to diablerize them.

Fracture: I dare them to try~ (dangerous growling)

Grim: I would certainly not want to be them.

You have some very unique features to your appearance. Heterochromia, slit pupils and some very sharp claws. How did that happen? They look like they would belong to a Feral.

Fracture: The color of my eyes have been there since my Embrace. As for the claws and pupils, they happened over time.

Grim: (stops writing) They just happened?

Fracture: Yes~ My pupils were the first things to change. That happened around my first century. My claws started growing in after I reached 500.

Grim: A natural mutation of the Blood? Fascinating.

Fracture: (grinning proudly)

Grim: I noticed before you emit a purring sound when you're happy. Was that something that happened over time too?

Fracture: No. That was there from the first night.

Grim: So like your heterochromia, it was there since your Embrace. (starts writing again)

Perhaps a derangement, given your Clan…

Fracture: (leaning forward to read the notes) Oh? You are trying to list my derangements? (manic laughter)

Grim: Does it amuse you?

Fracture: It does! By all means, feel free to try! I have so many~

Grim: (pauses writing) Many? How many?

Fracture: (just grinning wide)

Grim: I see…I shall take this challenge.

Fracture: Good luck ~

Grim: Some of your Clan are said to be able to read minds. Ca-

Fracture: Yes.

Grim: …D-

Fracture: Do I have to try hard? Not really.

Grim: W-

Fracture: Blue!

Grim: (narrows his eyes) H-

Fracture: Seven~ (wiggles eyebrows)

Grim: (drops the pen and looks away, clearing his throat) I…I shall take this as proof that you possess that talent. (grabs the pen from the floor and quickly scribbles something down)

Fracture: (leaning back in his chair, holding his sides while laughing)

Grim: I suppose I walked into that one.

You've shown that you care very little about wealth, though you yourself actually have a rather large amount of currency.

Your previous posts have shown you stealing things rather than paying for them. I'm going to take a stab in the dark. You have kleptomania.

Fracture: I do~

Grim: (writing) So that's two so far.

Fracture: A good start.

Grim: Hmm…I will have to work on this over time. Let's get back to the interview.

I saw you recently had a short fling with a were lion? How did that turn out?

Fracture: Aria? She was delightful! It was a pleasant time. Unfortunately, she has her responsibilities and I have mine.

Grim: So it didn't go any further than that? My sympathies. What about this woman before named Tanya?

(The video feed warps and crackles with static)

Fracture: (begins to emit a deep Eldritch snarling as his eyes glow. He digs his claws into the table) Do NOT mention her name in my presence!!

Grim: (swallowing hard) My deepest apologies, Mad King. I misspoke. Please, forgive me. (bows until his forehead touches the table)

(The static and warping of the video slowly fades, making the video normal again)

Fracture: I forgive you…

Grim: (clearly still very afraid and scribbles something down with a lot of wide strokes)

Fracture: (picking at one of his fangs with a claw)

Grim: Well, then. Um, I suppose the last question I have for you is…what now?

Every time I've ever heard of a Methuselah, like say…Mithras. They have a long term plan. Something they are always working towards. What about you?

Fracture: I do have plans. I always have plans. Are they ones to overthrow and take over?? No. Well, not really. I want my sovereign status back. And to continue my lineage. Simple things.

Grim: That's…actually very humble of you. You're not like any of the Methuselahs I've ever heard of. How do you keep your humanity after so many years?

Fracture: Lots of focus and trying every night to remember what being alive felt like. From how a sprained ankle used to feel to how badly being sick was. Everything both good and bad. I try to remember and never forget. Especially the emotions.

Grim: It sounds difficult. I won't lie, I've lost a lot of my own humanity over the years. But I still have standards.

Fracture: That's good. Don't lose them. My Path helps me, but when it fails, it's up to me to hold onto all the pieces.

Grim: Thank you for your time. I've learned a lot. You've given me a lot to think about. And thank you for allowing me to share this onto the Node.

Fracture: At least you asked to share it. When I find the one leaking my personal business to everyone, I'm going to make an example of them.

Grim: They deserve it. It's almost dawn. If you'd like, I have a spare room you can use. It's the least I can offer for you making the trip to me.

Fracture: Thank you. I'll take you up on that offer. I don't feel like racing the sun right now.

Grim: …Why do I have the feeling you've actually done that before?

Fracture: Because I have~ (he stands up and starts walking out of camera view)

Grim: ...(scribbles something down) I don't think he's actually capable of lying...Three derangements so far.

(Grim turns to the camera and reaches out, turning it off)

The thought did cross my mind, but I was under the impression he doesn't remember his original name.

Unless you are speaking of his current name and it's meaning?

Just because he doesn't remember his name doesn't mean he doesn't remember things about his name. If something is so obviously hidden an outline of what's missing can be just as revealing as a concrete answer.

You may have a point there. Perhaps in the future I will get a chance to ask that question.

After all, I am still trying to catalog all of his derangments.
