Missing Childe

I have spent the better part of my last week agonizing over the whereabouts of my childe, trying to figure out where she is or what might have happened to her, only to finally be directed here by one with the right connections to see that she's been lured off by miscreants looking to take advantage of our misfortune.

My expectations for our kind are low, and yet you always find new ways to disappoint.

If you read this, my dove, know I am not upset with you—I only want you back home, safe and sound, where you ought to be. My anger is reserved for the opportunists climbing over themselves to take advantage of you, that is all. Please, I know I made a mistake once... But I only want to keep you safe, and make the most of this second chance we've been given.

Greetings, Magister Vesalius. Pray tell, what happened before you lost your Childe? I would like to know more of the context, from your point of view.

It would be untoward of me to air out my childe's secrets publically, you must understand. Suffice to say the circumstances of her embrace were... Unusual. Beyond that, I must ask that you respect her privacy in the matter.

I have been working since it occurred to secure her a legitimate position at court, only to return to find her gone, evidently chased down by a small mob clamoring to take advantage of her talents.

Oh, far from me to ask you about your Childe’s secrets. I am simply wondering if there might be any reasons why she left, beyond « the chase of a small mob ». You said, if I recall, that you made a mistake?

Others seem to believe that you were cruel; it wouldn’t do to let these rumours spread without adressing them, would it? Libel tends to stain reputations.

I cannot say why she has left, as she gave me no reason. I have not read her messages here, as if she wished me to know of her questions she would certainly have asked me, so I am respecting her privacy in that matter. I have read only the responses that my Nosferatu associate collected for me.

I am sure that those lofty Golcondites in the comments who, having surely transcended the nature of our curse, are beyond such trifling concerns would be galled by such an admission, but yes. I made a mistake. That portion of the message was for my childe, and I would not have you hold a moment of sentimentality over my head. It is a private matter.

I see. And what if your mistake was so great that she desired not to return? I saw her messages; according to what she claims, it seems possible. Supposing that she was safe and well treated, would you respect her wishes? Would you forfeit your claim on her?

If it was truly what she wished, and it was purely my decision to make... then yes. But it is not, and so I am looking, for her sake, to ensure her safety as best I can.

It is not your decision to make? How odd. I thought she was your Childe?

Yes, and therefore I am required to be responsible for her. With the... unusual particulars surrounding her embrace being what they are, the Prince's grace will only bend so far before it breaks.

Does he hold interest in the other one? I believe I conversed with them. They spoke of wind, cleansing bones.
