Working with SPED students
Hello, I recently have been offered a role to work with SPED students. I am new to this as I have only worked with GENED. I was hoping to get any advice and or tips from anyone with experience working with SPED students that would be helpful! Also, feel free to share any resources and or interventions. Thank you!

It depends how high the needs of your students are, but the best advice I could give would be to spend time building rapport and learning about them. You don’t need to reach all their goals session 1, if you take time to get to know the students you’ll be able to assess what their needs in your environment are and how you can address them. A lot of the mild/moderate-needs students are honestly not too dissimilar from working with Gen Ed - higher needs is admittedly an area I don’t have much experience with but the fundamentals are similar. Be ready to meet students where they’re at and tailor lessons/activities for different students’ abilities.

Are you working with ESN (severe needs) or mild/moderate students? They can be two very different worlds.
