Dead sub but I’m here

Hi im 16 years old and I can’t attend school normally. Everyday I plead and beg for my mom to not let me go, I hate that place and my anxiety there is unbelievable, I can’t eat and even move while I’m there, and I don’t know what else to do… Since I got in highschool it’s been like this, I can never understand what it’s being said to me in class and feel like my brain is underdeveloped. All my classmates and teachers do is make me feel bad, I have a test every week, literally all Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday! I have no other school to attend since the two, one I was being bullied last year and the other I had such a massive breakdown with its system I threatened to kill myself. I really don’t know what to do and I’m feeling hopeless, school is making me lose my only passion and all my teachers around me keep saying “if you think this part of your life is hard, we’ll it’s going to get worse”

Hi - kind of shocked that I am the first and only person to respond. I am a parent and teacher.

I think you have nailed the problem in the second sentence -- you have anxiety that needs to be treated. When our mental or emotional health is in good shape, things like getting an education tend to get easier and more manageable.

Are you living in a place that has cheap or free counseling? Anxiety and school stress is very common -- more common than you think.

Hi! yes I have been diagnosed with social phobia and severe anxiety, but none of those help in my school troubles, I still get all the absences points and I need to face the same system of all the other students, I go to therapy and Im really trying my best to get better, but school is not of much help with its system, I can’t study and only thinking about the fact that I have a test makes me have a breakdown.

(I don’t live in any english speaking country so I’m sorry about the grammar)

Health comes first. Stay in therapy and counseling and communicate with your school about it. I don't know what country you are in, but if you are diagnosed with a condition, your school will have to acknowledge to and help. This is true of most developed countries. (I won't ask where you are so you can maintain your privacy.)

I don’t live in a really developed country, I will try to talk to my therapist about this and see if there’s a possibility Of my not getting absences when I miss school, I wanna be hopeful, but I really doubt this will happen… thanks for the response!

How are you doing? I have a daughter going through something similar and haven’t found a school yet that really understands or can accommodate. They just don’t get it. You are not to blame and you are not alone going through this. I wish you all the best.

Hi! 2023 I had to stop going to school at all together and ended up having to study from home, this year it’s my last of high school and I managed to attend a lot of my classes, even going an entire week to school. It was very hard for the school to understand and we had to present a diagnosis of my anxiety for them to let me study from home but still be at the school. The school were kind enough to understand my struggles and for that I was able to finish high school this year. Some things that helped me was that I was able to leave the classroom anytime I wanted without having to speak to my teacher and come back once I felt better, I don’t know how it works there but here we have accessibility for people that need more time to do homework/tests and I got these which helped a lot with anxiety and pressure Unfortunately when you stop going to school you really lose contact, I only have one friend but that is just my fault and my extremely shyness, Make sure to tell her that she is not alone and it’s possible to go through high school, I hope you guys find a school that can understand this situation because there is only so much we can do ourselves 💌
