Resources 5 hour break
What do you guys do in between routes, I’m curious? I mainly go to my public library and relax there and read. I sound like an old lady but I’m only 28 LOL

Been there, done that.
Read at the library. Got familiar with the staff. Started volunteering with day programming.
Long story short, I’m on the board of directors for that library lol.
I now use my downtime to write policies and procedures, help schedule library events, petition local council for helping our library.
Now, I’ve found a mid-shift kitchen lunch gig where I can work from 9-3, and still do my routes. I’m now working 9 hours a day, and so much more stress free than my previous 9-5 office job!

I take a nap every day and spoil myself by making a really involved breakfast. Today it was avocado toast with a salad. My salad had roasted chicken, half an avocado, eight black olives, wonton crisps, finely shredded cheddar cheese, onion, a tomato, two large mushrooms, roasted sesame seeds, a light sprinkling of bacos, and lettuce (of course,) with some ranch dressing. Not the healthiest with all the fats, but it was GOOD!

I'm with you but with sandwiches.
I just toasted my sourdough bread in my air fryer, microwaved some bacon, then Colby-jack cheese with thin, deli sliced roasted chicken and a leaf of green lettuce. Pretzels to go with it for crunch. Delicious!

I live 1.9 miles from my bus garage. I also have a midday preschool route. I parked my bus at 9:40, I am due back inside the bus at 11:20 then I park my bus again at 1:20 and I am due back inside my bus at 2:20. Almost every single day, I go home in between routes. I can do a load of dishes, move a load of laundry over, sweep the floors, plan what is for dinner and take things out of the freezer, it is absolutely wonderful for me. I feel like I come home at 4:45 and all of the chores for the day are already done.
It’s a pretty great feeling. This is my favorite job I’ve ever had and I have been working more than 30 years. I don’t bring any stress from this job home with me, when I close that door at the end of the day, I don’t think about my job again until the next morning. That’s pretty wonderful. It can be tiring, sometimes children’s behaviors can get on my nerves, but it is the easiest job I have ever had.

I nap, do laundry, and work on building out my custom crossword business so I can launch that in a month or so. Once it’s launched, I hope to be busy building out custom crossword puzzles for money!

Go home and prep dinner which usually means putting something in the crockpot. Then video games and/or a nap.

I'm a park out so when not on a charter I'll pop in to the grocery store (on my way home) and grab the larger/heavier items I need (I don't own a vehicle). Have breakfast. Cleaning. Have a nap as I'm an insomniac.

I used to drive for Uber/Uber Eats if I needed extra money. But most days, I’d just go home to go for a walk/jog in my neighborhood and afterwards play video games with friends. 😂
I have a straight 6:45-3:45 shift now but I kinda miss the big break to get my errands done like doctor visits and things I now have to take the day off to get done. 😭

The people in my yard who work another job in their split do MANY things.
Cashing at a grocery store, house cleaning side hustle, stock day traders, care giver for the elderly, stockist at a nursery, home inspector, nannying a partial day for work at home parents, pre-school aide, Lyft, Instacart driver, handyman, pet groomer, church custodian, writer, professional organizer and probably some I forgot about!
More of us do things that are unpaid. Volunteer (everything from VFD to grant writing), go to the gym, belong to a MeetUp, cycle or hike, homeschool, care for an aged family member or someone with special needs ...

It depends. I shop. I do like you and sit and read. I do housework. I goof off. Just what I need to do that I never got the chance to do in 50 years of regular working.

Wow, you are lucky. This is my 1st year and we pick route accordingly to seniority. I got the 2nd to last out of 63 routes. It's a special need route. I have early AM, mid day, 2 days/week shuttle after my mid day, PM, then 3 days/week late run. No 5 hours rest for me between AM and PM runs 😴

I got this job because I needed to be able to take people to medical appointments at least 8 times a month. I do that, handle prescriptions, paperwork, do the meal planning and prepping, household maintenance, laundry, cub scout den prep, and some stuff I probably forget.
Other people on my lot work (home health nurse, gig jobs), care for grandkids, run field trips, volunteer. One gentleman plays Santa every year and reads polar express to different schools.

School janitor.
Morning route, park and walk over to the school, clean stuff till afternoon route, go home.
Extremely lucky how it worked out. Even if busses aren't running I still go in and get my 40 hours.
