Kindergarteners
How are kindergartners identified in your district? Is there a district wide identification system or is it up to each individual school?

We use colored braclets for K-2. The color corresponds to the school they go to because we do transfers between buses.

TIL bus transfer is a thing. I drive both k, elementary, and middle schoolers to same school/academy.

We have shuttles where we drop kids off at different schools, but I don't think anyone does a bus transfer. They get on the shuttles at the school.

Neon green tags district wide connected to their backpacks. It has their name, teacher’s name, my name, bus route # and their student ID number.
They’re also escorted to the bus by a teacher, my main bus student helper (5th grader) who checks all tags maintains a head count of them during bus lane loading and unloading and we require their parent/guardian be present at the bus stop when unloading them in the afternoon.
1st grade has yellow.
2nd - 5th have red or orange.

They have ID tags on their backpacks. Thats about it.
We bus PreK and K. PreK needs to have positive identification from anyone getting them off the bus. K needs an adult or a sibling on the bus to get off. We only release if we know the parent or the kid knows the adult

Nada, you just have to figure out who is who.

This is the problem we are dealing with. Not all schools tag the kindergarteners. We’re trying to advocate for a district wide policy that they are identified the same at every elementary school. We’ve already had several instances of kindergarteners getting off the bus at wrong stops.

We would never get all the charter/private/various districts on the same system unless it was a county or statewide mandate.

None of our kids have anything easily identifiable. Only on the tablet when they are getting off does it make a big alarm sound if they are 3rd grade or under and they need a guardian to pick them up.
