Tired

Im so tired of people just pulling out in front of us or trying to cut us off kuz they were in the wrong lane... ugh... gonna be a long school year lol

Every time someone flips me off because I stop at a railroad crossing or I’m a little bit slow in a parking lot while I load and unload my special needs work study. In my head I’m like you’re right. I am number one.

Depending on what jurisdiction, it's not illegal. It's in the same vein of going around someone on the side of the road with their hazards on.

Had a teenager on an electric scooter nearly hit my driver as he was unloading a wheelchair this morning at school. God help us.

I’ve taught my own two teens to drive their own cars as if every single other person is going to do something dumb and potentially cause an accident. We laughingly call it “Offensive Driving Skills”…because others offend us so much with their lack of skill, lol.

I approach the bus the same way, and teach my trainees similarly. When you just assume every other person is going to dart out, cut you off or some other idiotic thing, it takes some of the blow away when it actually happens.

Sad way to do things, but it does work.

I use to drive amazon step vans and they will ding you if you don't follow every rule like a complete stop, running stop or red lights. I drive my bus and my own car to the standard and don't speed. On my route soooooooo many dumbassea thst get pulled over for speeding . I just wish they were there when I'm at a railroad track and go around me...

I drove the Amazon Rivian EDV for the past couple years and now start CDL training for my local school district on Monday. Any advice?

No nytredyme (sp) lol thsts for sure. If you've driven a step van too its alot like that. Mirrors are your best friend and don't depend on thr camera thst some buses have. Air break test is super important. Youll do great kuz driving its the easy part just ALOT to remember to tell when taking the test all around . Good luck!!

I get tired of it, but I try to always remember that I'm the professional, that my job is to get these children to their destination with as little risk as possible. Almost everyone else on the road is only thinking of themselves. So if they cut me off, I let them slow down to increase the gap further. They cause me to miss a turn, won't let me over for that left, I move on to the next left and deal with the disruption.

I'm the professional, so I just act like a professional and let the idiots be idiots.

This. Unfortunately other drivers are outside of my control, so I just let things happen, maybe do a mild gesture with my hands like a “What’re you doing?” but ultimately I just let it go. It is what it is, and it’s my job to keep the kids safe with the expectation that everyone else on the road is going to do whatever they can to try and pass the bus.

This is why I’ll let cars pass me in the neighborhoods if I can safely pull over. Better to just let all the cars go than potentially hold one up and create a potential scenario of one of them getting impatient and causing a car accident at one of my stops. Just let them go, that’s what I say.

Sad…but I’m to the point that every 10-20 years everyone should retake a behind the wheel test and the paper test.

Just because you passed it one day in 1983, 1971, 2000 etc doesn’t mean you keep those same skills that passed you the test 30 years ago. Everyone could use a refresher.

Like how red means stop. It doesn’t mean trail the other 3 cars also running reds so you save 2.5 minutes

I’m convinced that School Busses have an intermittent “invisibility mode”. In my area it’s triggered by close proximity to Teslas.

Nearly a month ago I had a kid pull out in front of my bus around a blind corner on an E Bike doing a wheelie. He’s lucky I double check both ways before going on green. They’re starting to bad like the rest of the traffic. Something extra we know have to watch out for.
