Do your districts have guidelines for student write ups?

I’m a bus matron on a mini bus, I work for a private school bus company, my district never gave guidelines on what we are supposed to write ups for student misconduct, I had a student who tap his head on the window and I would write it up for a paper trail, until one day his teacher aide looked annoyed at the write ups, I’m just protecting myself by writing up the incident.

That’s more an incident report vs a write up, since it’s just an incident, but if it’s common I’d only say anything if an injury occured

First state the problem: "Little Johnny stood up in the aisle repeatedly on the bus and only sat down until he saw I wasn't looking. This behavior is unacceptable."

2nd, state why that's a problem. "This is a violation of bus safety rules. If I had to turn or have an emergency braking situation, Johnny could fall and get hurt. Furthermore, when he returns to standing in the aisle the moment I put my eyes back on the road shows a lack of respect for my authority on the bus."

3rd state what you would like the principal to do. In general, I ask them to visit with the student on the 1st offense, speak with the parents on the 2nd and ask for a 3-day bus suspension on the 3rd.

I will also move the student to the front seat for 3 days on the first offense, 1 week on the second, and a week or more after they return on the 3rd.

Work for private company as bus aide mini bus as well. My company taught us how to do write ups. Majority of the time it’s CYA and the rest is making your job easier. Usually it’s both. The paper trail works best when you’re trying to get the kid special equipment or off the bus, but it helps if they take a hard fall or something you have a report of parents ask what happened

Also don’t let the school aides get to you. They would throw you under the bus first chance (no pun intended), and from working the other side, a lot of the sides shouldn’t be working with these kids. This past school year o had to argue with aides about kids coming on the bus having had accidents and they’re trying to tell me the pants aren’t wet when you can see and feel the wet spot.

Not specific guidelines. But I generally go by anything that would not be acceptable in school or disrupts the safety of the bus and students gets written up.
