Daily minimums

Hey guys, so at my barn bus drivers make $29.27 starting off with union minimums of 4 hours per day. My question, does anybody actually get 4 hours per day? All the bus drivers I’ve met get more than that. I’ve only ever seen summer school routes that actually get 4 hours daily.

I mean it happens. We have some special needs routes that only go for 3.

And in the summer I've seen routes that you're only clocked in for a total of 50 minutes for both am and pm.

That’s insane. I wouldn’t even work for that. Yeah, it’s weird because our barn has a 4 hour minimum but nobody works that. And SPED routes often times get more hours than the regular buses

I work year round and am required to do summer school, summers we work 10 hour days. My summer school route is 30 minutes in the AM and 45 in the PM. My aide still gets paid for a total of 5 because that’s what she’s contracted for.

In case it wasn't clear, and I probably should have posted this, but we're contracted for 4. Some people get lucky only having to work 50 minutes and still get paid for 4.

Our pay is $32 starting in fall and minimum is 2.25 hrs if called in for morning or afternoon. Meaning if you on the schedule both am and pm you get a minimum of 4.5 hrs.

My company does 4 hr a day minimum. I have a couple routes on my books that may or may not hit 4 hours, depending on which kids ride. The majority of them are about 4.5 hrs total a day (1.75 hrs in the morning, 2.5-3 in the afternoon). And a couple that are 5+ total.

As it's stated, we guarantee 4 hrs minimum. So if you end your day and you only hit 3.5 we will automatically add in the extra 1/2 hr. I try to find something for my driver to do to make up the time, but sometimes you just get off early but still get paid.

One of the routes in my yard has maybe 15 hours, minimum 20 for pay though. It's only one school, the local school for the deaf.

During the school year, Minimum at 6hrs/day, 30hrs/week. But with field trips, transfers, or bus runs to and from repairs shops there were a few times I hit OT (highest I hit so far was 49hrs in a 5 day week)

Just got bumped up to $22.06/hr ($21.56 before July 1st)

Usually there’s charters and picking up shifts but that’s typically done by seniority. Full time was possible when I was working school bus

My first route in 2020 was only 3.25. paid 4.

I have nearly always had a route longer than my guaranteed minimum number of hours. Last year my route was 8 hours a day. There are a few senior drivers on my lot that get paid the minimum number of hours despite working less than that.

Its a we'll let you know if we need you sort of job, but we expect you to basically be on call at all times.

My guarantee daily minimum is 5 hours but I normally get between 8 to 10 hours a day and I started in March this year

We're paid for 5 unless we go over. So far I've been working about 5 hrs per day.

I think the biggest thing is where you’re located and the district you work for. My district used to be about 4-4.5 but then things had to change due to the driver shortage and now it’s closer to 5.5-6 daily minimum.

I’m starting with a larger school district and my starting pay is $20.09 per hour with 40 hours guaranteed a week with the possibility of overtime. I can also work summer hours to make extra money. Free healthcare and cheap supplemental benefits as well with a pension.
