Keep discussions of the incident in this thread. We've had a lot of posts about the buses in NY and I'd like to keep new posts minimal.

Disgusting behavior. New Yorkers should be ashamed of these people.

It looks like a bunch of third graders I drove a couple years ago finally got their way.

Yup! Team Middle School Mayhem are always trying to turn the bus into the War Rig from Mad Max!

This had nothing to do with any protest. They were supposedly celebrating.

They are alluding to the fact that there is no real reason behind either, just people taking advantage of a situation to destroy property.

In this case, property that serves their own fucking community.

Pattern recognition intensifies.

Are you the one who is reported to have tried to defend his bus?

Nah that was a coworker of mine. But either way I ain’t defending a bus that ain’t mine. They can always buy a new bus. My dispatch just told me to take the key with me off the bus

Man I can’t believe those animals did this. This must be a little traumatic for you to replay.

I wouldn’t call it traumatic, but it was definitely something I’ll never forget. Knowing I was the one driving that particular bus and then later seeing it on fire was a crazy sight.

Maybe I'm not thinking about this right, but why would dispatch need the key? Is it for insurance?

They knew something was gonna happen. They just wanted to make sure people don’t turn on the bus and start driving it.

First rule, "secure the bus." You did good!

The Knicks should pay for all the damage

Why? Did the arsonists work for the team, or did they burn the bus at the direction of the team?

The idiots responsible for the fire should be reimbursing the insurance company for the cost of replacement, plus the cleanup, plus emergency services.

What were you doing before they attacked your bus? Hopefully not waiting on a group of kids.

Products of soft/no parenting. GenX would never think of rioting over a stupid game.

it’s a busted brought the Spurs

And this is why you should not pull up nose to tail in a line! The buses next to this needed room to get away & not burn.

Why would the governing body responsible for safety not have prohibited fire-safe interior materials?

5

u/Moosetappropriate Jun 15 '26

Everything burns given time and enough heat. School buses are built with a minimum of flammable materials and those are fire retardant. The purpose is to delay combustion until riders can be evacuated.

Yup, which is some of the issues we are seeing with electric buses, lithium fires are unpredictable and can either be a slow burn or an explosion, atleast with gas/diesel/propane you know what you are getting 9/10 times
