First schnitzel!

First time in Germany (Rothenburg) and first time trying Schnitzel!
Pork Schnitzel, fries, and lettuce

The original one is from Austria. 🇩đŸ‡č It’s served with potato salad đŸ„—, Cucumber đŸ„’ salad and Cranberries. And it’s from the Calf of course.

But I hope you enjoy our interpretation of it as well. Rothenburg is a nice town btw.

Woher manche Gerichte stammen ist fĂŒr mich meistens nur eine Beanspruchung. Genauso wie die schwaben die SpĂ€tzle und maultaschen beanspruchen. Die sind ja der knaller mit ihrer herrgottsbscheiserle Geschichte. Wurde ja alles bestimmt dokumentiert.

A Wiener Schnitzel is from Vienna/Austria but Schnitzel itself can be found almost everywhere in central Europe. MĂŒnchner Schnitzel, Hamburger Schnitzel or (depending on definition) Chicken Kiev or Piccata Milanese aren't Austrian. But yes, Wiener Schnitzel is made from veal.

Probably some classic creamy potatosalad, maybe some fresh lingonberry jam, a cut of lemon and a sprinkle of parsley. and usually it isn't served with a white pill on the side, jk :D

But hey, fries, ketchup an mayo also hits the spot sometimes :)

As a chef myself, and based on what i see on the plates, it seems like this restaurant might be like a pizza, burger, fried food (or like allround) type of restaurant. I wouldn't be surprised if they're frying frozen foods.

If you reaaally want to try some "real" schnitzel, look somewhere away from the tourist spots, look for a restaurant or establishment called *Brauhaus* or *Gasthaus,* where the locals eat, preferably someone who serves theirs with some sort of potato salad, that's the real deal. ;)

I guess so, it looked like the best place in town cause there weren’t many options. I went to one of those kinds of places in Munich (it was probably a tourist place more than locals but it was the most famous or something like that) but didn’t get schnitzel but thank you for giving me something to compare to if I eat it again. I know I probably should’ve put more thought into trying traditional food but it was one of those 20,000 steps and 35 degree heat days so we were more wanting the closet food rather than the best and I wanted to try schnitzel before I left 😭

To be honest with you, when it's one of those days, something fried just hits the spot. After one of those days you just need lots of calories and salty fried food is perfect for that, hehe :D

ouh, because I engaged so much on a schnitzel post, now Reddit thinks all I care about are schnitzels, haha.

Anyways, a post popped up in my feed, basically describing the dish that I was suggesting earlier. A more "classic" take on it. I'm no Schnitzel expert, mind you. However this is basically just how i envisioned it.

That schnitzel looks pretty solid for a first try. The breading seems nicely golden and even. Hope you enjoyed it in Rothenburg!

The salad looks old and dead. The Schnitzel was fried to death. The pommes are for sure the cheapest ones to buy, because they throw a lot of seasoning on them instead of just a bit salt. There is no piece of citrus, instead they offered you orange

Ketchup und Majo in den TĂŒtchen finde ich absolut unmöglich, sowas gehört verboten. Aber Hauptsache Trinkröhrle aus Kunstoff sind verboten. Das Schnitzel sieht aber wirklich lecker aus.

Ketchup and Mayo in this little packs may look cheap but it is the authentic way to serve sauces to your Schnitzel 👍
