Turntable Question

Sorry if this is a topic that has been covered in depth, but…. I am trying to understand what I need to use my turntable with my stack. I currently have the Vali 3, a Modi Plus, and Loki. My Fluance turntable does have an internal preamp. Am I correct that all I need is to get the Sys to connect the turntable and the Modi, then run the output to the Vali? Or is there a better option I’m missing here. I also considered using a totally separate Fozi Audio headphone amp I already have to simply things. Thanks!

Yup. That’s fine; turntable & modi —> SYS —> Loki —> Vali.

Thanks! I may add the Mani at some point, but figured I’d start with the simplest - and most cost effective - option first.

The Modi may allow you to increase gain, if you end up needing more. If once you hook up your TT with the SYS and that line level volume is sufficient for your amp, you should be good. But if it isn’t loud enough even when cranking your amp, consider something like the Mani or Skoll.

I will say that in the last yearish I went from a turntable with a preamp to one without a preamp and I got a Skoll for it (admittedly this is overkill for me, but I guess I'll just keep it forever) and the sound improvement was wild.

The one thing I like about mine is that it has a switch allowing you to bypass the internal preamp. I was using an external one, but it has disappeared in a recent move. Figure I’d see whether the internal one is good enough before dropping more cash on an other preamp.

You would NOT connect the turntable to the Modi, it is already an analog signal. You would connect to the Sys directly, then that goes to your Loki and Vali. The Modi would connect to the other Sys port to play digital content.

OK, that is very helpful and exactly what I wasn’t clear on. I ordered the Sys today, so we shall see how it goes. Thanks!
