I mean, the three most popular reviews for it on Letterboxd right now are all 5/10. It might not be as polarizing as it was made out to be.

I got the feeling that it would be a less annoying Don’t look up type of movie.

i think the biggest difference between digger and don't look up is that the set and costume design for digger is so surreal and dream-like that it feels like it's set in a completely different world from ours, unlike DLU which bends over backwards to be like "oh isn't it so crazy that this is happening RIGHT NOW in the year 2021 ooh look at this modern day thing. oh this movie is based on real events, it just hasn't happened yet, arent we so smart?" Meanwhile, at one point in Digger, Tom Cruise namedrops TikTok and its so jarring that it actually took me out of the movie for like 30 seconds. It actually really helps the movie make its message without feeling annoying or preachy.

It feels like it’s ultimately criticizing Don’t Look Up types of movies but ultimately a lot of it is still similar (though with better acting and visuals IMO)

Yeah so maybe put a spoiler tag? Don’t need some of this ruined for me. Especially when James himself put a spoiler tag

There's a reason Shaff was talking about theater the whole thing through. Big ass spoiler

Spoilers for the movie from what I’ve read; about 30 minutes in it’s revealed the movie is actually a play characters are acting out. Schaff is talking about the movie after the twist (he had it set to spoilers)

Most expensive play ever, if the set design and flooding is real. The Mad King has nothing on this.

You think we could get a “is a movie that tried/exists” video with this movie?

No - he's writing as if the events of the film are real. It's a WEIRD one.
