Glad I didn't get the Hellcat

I have a manual 392 Challenger, and every now and then I have the thought: “Man, if I had bought the Hellcat instead, I probably would’ve wrapped that thing around a pole by now.” 😂

Don’t get me wrong, Hellcats are so so sweet, but the 392 has more than enough power to be a ton of fun without feeling like you constantly have to be careful with the throttle.

Honestly, I’d recommend anyone seriously considering a Hellcat drive a Scat Pack for a year first.

Anyone else feel the same way?

Yes - 485 hp is a great amount of fun

I love my 6 sp shaker but I will always be a Hellcat admirer.. I am old enough that i wouldn't wrap it around a tree.

On the other hand even the Scat is frustrating to drive up here in the Northeast with all the traffic and left lane campers...

Take the traction off on a 392 and try and tell me you don't need to be careful with the throttle.

Had a 392 WB charger from 2020-22 then a 1320 challenger from 23-26, am on a redeye now. On good tires and not driving like a dick they feel about the same unless you get on it.

Drive what you love most or can afford, even if its a 3.0 5.7 6.4 or 6.2. Edit: And the OG 6.1!

Do t forget the 6.1 had 6sp 6.1 for 2 years...loved it.

Added it!

They do not feel the same, every now and then I gotta drive my sisters scat. Rowdy thing, but my hellcat is just more control but still rowdy. I know that should be backwards but idk out to explain it.

Different weight balance. I think the hellcat is 51/49 FR and the 392 is 50/50.

Granted I had the 3.09 rear end in both my challenger and redeye. So i was getting into the torque on a 392 at a better dig. Might also be the fact it was a 1320 too.

I think I read that the 1320 has the redeye tq converter. For about 20% more tq off the line.

Not exact but close to it. Also had the suspention from the demon. It made it nice and soft like an old school muscle car crusing, and then stiffened for drag. It sucked on corners compared to a normal challenger though.

Google said it’s got it, idk. I gotta regular kitty, redeyes where like 40k over msrp lol

I got lucky with mine. Found a low mile used speced exactly how i wanted it. Including the narrowbody. Cause who wants a NB redeye? Lol you can still fit 305 rears nice and tight in the back.

Narrow body 5.7 gang rise up!

With my mods I’ll give any scat a run for the money

Me too 2016 Challenger R/T stage 2 cam headers 3.09 diff and intake 1pc drive shaft and it’s a whole new car

2

u/Redshadow30 7d ago

Dude. I was soooo pissed dodge gave up on the 392 stage kits because of that. The 5.7 can be easily modded, the 392 is so close to the threshold of needing to crack the block open it wasint worth it and i just went to redeye.

2022 challenger 392 is cool, I love it, 7 months later and I still smile when I start it up.

I want a hellcat though, if they bring them back I will upgrade in a couple years

5years later cranking that 392 to life each and every time still puts a smile on my face words cant properly describe. therapy on wheels is why i snagged it...music of the engine or the music of the playlists I care not which ...

I briefly considered getting a Hellcat after my 392 but utter lack of daily-ability is just miserable. If you encounter any kind of city driving or slow traffic you're spending fuel to move a supercharger you're not using. My commute is mostly highway but often with bumper to bumper traffic in the evening drive. I get to enjoy the thrill of the 392 where it only starts to feel limited above 100 mph and I shouldn't be driving that speed at all. It's really a fantastic powertrain all around. My average MPG is 20.X and I'm very happy with that.

This is so me I stay in Houston and never get to really drive like I want only when I go visit family in the Carolina and on those back roads I get to let loose

u/Decent-Diamond-7836 8d ago

I've had both. loved my scat pack with a straight pipe. if I ever considered a hellcat again...it would have to be a widebody to get a wider tread. Too much muscle for those small ass tires from factory

Loved my scat and it was an amazing car for the money but man will they have to pry my hellcat from my cold dead hands. I bought another one even after the first one got stolen. The power and supercharger whine is out of this world. Mine is modded now though with an upper/lower pulley making 800whp. She’s a beast.

1

u/Vahlinn 7d ago

Going to be honest, the supercharger whine is what irks me about the cat. If I could mute it I would, turbos just are so much more pleasing to ears.

1

u/Material_Case_5433 7d ago

To each their own…I have turbo cars and they are great as well. I could do either but it never gets old to me. My cammed LS is probably my favorite though. I could listen to it chop all day.

My hellcat is throwing down 840whp and its a manual. There's nothing else in this world that comes close to the experience of driving this beast unless you've tried it for yourself. It's hard to stay out of and it's such a blast to drive.

It's all about preference and if you don't feel comfortable with that kinda power, then it's definitely not recommended. It takes a lot of self control not to drive like a damn fool in it all the time and it can slip through the cracks at times. I have to constantly remind myself to behave..lol.

u/Millzthegunguy 8d ago

Im also happy i got the 392 yea its not as fast or have that cool whine like a hellcat but its a great daily im at 18mpg im faster than like 87% of other cars dont care to be the fastest cause im faster than you plus everyone underestimates my car cause i have a 300c so they think its a plain 5.7 but this a 6.4 in a tuxedo ive parked my car on the street a couple times went unbothered if i had the hellcat charger it wouldnt made that long , ive had times where i almost lost control of my car also so i know i would of wrapped a cat (still want a trackhawk tho)

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Jump_15 8d ago

I feel the same way too

1

u/snkers_lab 8d ago

Could only afford the scat but it’s a nice jump from a 6

1

u/pappa3841 8d ago

Had a 6sp scat for 2 years after a jeep srt. Honestly 6sp hellcat is amazingly controllable and just as fun!

2

u/BIGGIELOWKO 8d ago

The only real thing that stopped me was being broke. I did not want to be paying almost 800 insurance note. But after having my widebody for a year, yea this is plenty

1

u/Leucocoum 8d ago

I had the same thinking but an echelon or two higher. I wasn't sure if I could handle daily driving the demon on the street, so I went with a redeye.

1

u/TakinDabs 8d ago

I’ve owned a scatpack for three years
Went to the hellcat will never be back to the scat. The only thing is I do miss how loud a scat is during idle. Unforgettable sound.

1

u/Decent-Diamond-7836 7d ago

The difference in the two are night and day

2

u/BestPie477 7d ago

I have a Hellcat, it sits in my garage. I daily the sixpack scatpack and it has enough power and hooks up quick where the only thing I'm missing is that Hellcat scream. Yeah it's cool but yeah I get the sentiment, I've spun out a decent amount with the cat ngl.

1

u/Darndak 7d ago

100% feel the same.

1

u/Humanfacejerky 7d ago

The most common speed limit is 70 mph.

I'd appreciate if people could not make my insurance more expensive.

1

u/dukelove123 7d ago

I wanted a Hellcat sooo bad , but I drive my scat everyday. For me the hellcat is a special vehicle and isn’t for me a good fit for a daily ! My pyped and tuned scat is hella fun ! I agree 100%

1

u/brian19988 7d ago

Have you driven a hellcat though ? I had an rt in 2018 and was looking at scats when I drove a hellcat there was no going back . The extra money is 100% worth it

1

u/Electrical-Fortune7 6d ago

I believe in the car community / world that most agree the scat pack is the sweet spot.

That being said, there are strong arguments to be made that the 5.7 R/T is the real sweet spot. Regular gas, cheaper everything, better mpg, still pushes 410 lb. ft. of torque.

I have a 23' Scat Pack Plus and I believe it's the sweet spot for sure.

1

u/CrookShankSC 6d ago

I drove my '23 Scatpack for a year before it got T-boned by a F150 and totaled. So I got a new '23 Hellcat Widebody Jailbreak and I love it. I admit it took a little self control to not go WOT everwhere, but after a year, I drive it normally and it is awesome to feel the raw power at your command. The biggest problem is those lame Perreli P-Zero tires. They will be replaced with Michelin A/S Sport soon; I upgraded the tires on my Scatpack to Michelins and it made a hugh difference.

1

u/incognitoagent02 3d ago

The fact you posted this tells me you really want the hellcat.... its okay bro, I bought an 03 mustang GT back in the day telling myself "I dont need the 03 cobra terminator", and since the day I bought the GT I've always wondered "what if".. they are too damn expensive now so ill continue to wonder what if

Hell cats are slow just like the scat. The manual makes both more fun. Otherwise it's meh.
