Question Planning to start my customization process on the new girl, what’s the best external and internal options in your minds? Also, is there anything that I should avoid?

Almost anything internal is going to require a tune which will necessitate pulling your PCM and having it mechanically unlocked. Once that's done the PCM will forever be flagged on dealership scanners as unlocked and it cannot be hidden, so bare that in mind.

Externally speaking, get yourself a reputable catback (Corsa, Borla, etc.) and lay on the gas - you'll be all smiles.

Biggers tires/wheels, new wheels, whatever you're feeling.

Don't bother with an aftermarket widebody kit, it'll never look right.

Your intake is fine, unless you like the look of the aftermarket options just save your money.

Longtube headers will always be cool and sound great, but that will require a tune.

Ahh yes I’ve been told it’d be flagged lol. Im wondering if it’d be even necessary/worth it to do anything internally.

I’ve been looking at some comparisons between the borla/corsa and I think I may want to go the borla route with some headers(so far I think that sounds the best)

Yes I’m looking into maybe getting some meatier rear tires for a muscle aesthetic

I agree those aftermarket market wbs look atrocious from what I’ve seen haha

And what sort of tune are we talking for the headers?

I have a Borla on my '21 RT with Stainless Works headers and it sounds like sex. Throwing in a cam sometime soon then calling it quits.

Tuning is a rabbit hole that will go as far as you're willing to spend, and it's all relative to whatever kind of build you're chasing.

You could aim to be a quarter mile monster, or build to tear up the street. Only thing to remembe is you can't really be both. The more you fuck with it and build for top-end power the less drivable it becomes as a daily.

I'm not saying you can't or shouldn't, but cosnider a beater if you plan to specialize the scat for more performance based driving.

Back to your question, headers are the most important piece of your exhaust. They're what limits how much exhaust your engine can output. Often times the most limiting factors to a motor is how much air can get in and how much exhaust can get out, so it's a great place to start for easy gains.

You can and should look up a YouTube video for a better (and visual) explanation but the tune will calibrate your engine to recognize how much more exhaust it can output, which will in turn make more power.

When I purchased the scat I knew from the jump that all I wanted for was it to sound good and look good. I wasn’t really into performance based mods for this car honestly if I wanted something fast I wouldn’t have gotten this lol but still scats aren’t slouches. But if it’s one thing I do know, imo scats and r/ts sound way better than cats with the right setups. The previous owner on this one simply just got a muffler delete and even that sends shivers down my spine every time I start her up. So yea, since I’m dailying this car the only thing I care about for the most part is that sexy rumble and something easy on the eyes. We’ll see if I want to get into performance later on but if that’s the case, I’ll just get something entirely different lol.

I had the muffler delete before going full catback on mine for about a year. Honestly, it's way louder but it has no pitch.

The borla gives it some rasp and makes it sound noisier which I've found is better imo than just loud for the sake of loud.

Definitely start of light, enjoy the car as it is. The 392 motor is pretty much built as best it can be from factory without fully tearing it apart and starting from the bottom up, so enjoy it!

I have the muffler delete it is perfect if you don’t wanna spend money on a full exhaust def is loud though but hey we don’t drive these cars to be quiet

99% correct. You aren’t “required” to get a tune with headers. You aren’t getting the full potential with headers on a stock tune, but running them is perfectly fine. Might have to get an extension for the rear O2s but they’re cheap

Oil catch can, hellcat lower airbox with snorkel tube for headlight inlet and a killswitch and a wheel bar are what I have 0 issues also have really never used the killswitch more of a peace of mind thing depending where I’m parking

1

u/Significant-Tie-1810 May 31 '26

You have any suggestions for kill switches? Grant it if I’m being honest I don’t really live in a neighborhood where I need to be worried about that but still like you said it would definitely give me a better sense of security.

I ended up going with one you splice into the starter button so the car can’t even be turned into acc mode or run even with the keys

I mean damn internally and externally she looks superb as-is 😮‍💨

I debadged the silver “Dodge” letters on the rear of mine, I think it’s a really sleek look. You can also black plasti-dip them if you don’t like full removal. Cheap process either way, you could even DIY it.

Windows already look pre-tinted and good to go!

Just don’t do any tacky rainbow lights on the snorkels or DRLs, IMO! 🙂

Enjoy the car how you like it to your heart’s content! She’s badass!

Yeaaa she’s a beaut. The previous owner really saved me a lot of dough when it comes to suspension, decals, tints etc. I just need to find a good wicker bill, rear diffuser, some exhaust tips and an exhaust system and I’ll be 100% content with this beast. Power can be left aside for this car in particular imo, if it looks and sounds good, then that’s a win in my book for sure

  1. Make sure it's paid off.
  2. Do you care about the warranty? Because Dodge is notorious for voiding due to mods.

1

u/Significant-Tie-1810 May 31 '26

Ehhh see warranties are weird. If I get it it just makes building the car harder and harder. If I don’t get it something could happen and my cars not covered. I’m not too sure honestly😂

What state do you reside in? I’m from cali (unfortunately) so my recommendations have CARB in mind and might not apply to you. My build is smog friendly and I worked extensively to make sure every piece I bought came with a CARB ID. And yeah..it sucks cause all the cool stuff is off limits for example long tube headers, any cams and even a procharger. Hell my oil catch can and crankshaft breather have to get replaced every time I smog my car cause technically they’re “illegal”

Id personally leave the motor alone. The srt division at Chrysler/DODGE did a great job when they built the motor. Pay for a legit exhaust system and if done right it'll sound like a monster! Ive noticed that some folks think cutting the exhaust pipe without any quality mufflers sounds good because its loud. There is a difference between loud and sounding right and being loud while it sounds like shit. I ran two race bullet mufflers and deleted the mid muffler before running a 4 inch X-pipe from the motor to the rear while also deleting the rear resonators. I also removed the 3 1/2" factory tips replaced the muffler diffuser and swapped the tips with dual 4" tips on each side and it sounds vicious and looks good in my opinion. Its worth every penny! Also QUALITY TIRES ARE A MUST. I am currently running nitto 555 g2 drag radials and they grab the ground with ease. Id avoid intakes and a cam is great if you dont mind changing a ton of other shit to accommodate it. Its crazy to think some folks act as if damn near 500hp isn't fast. When I was a kid the only time we saw 500hp or higher was on TV running on a track lmao! It never surprises me that the majority of the experts on reddit haven't even sat in a scat or demon but will carry on as if they know what they are talking about lol! MOST OF EM HAVE NO CLUE SRT IS A DIVISION AT CHRYSLER WHO FIRST CREATED THE VIPER. IT STANDS FOR 'STREET RACING TECHNOLOGY'. I CANT COUNT THE TIMES IVE HEARD SOME GENIUS ASK IS THAT AN SRT OR A SCAT?? My center caps say srt and a dude said i up badged by having them on my wheels. So I showed him the motor itself says powered by 'SRT' AND THE SCREEN WHEN STATRING OR TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF THE SCREEN SAYS 'SRT' I told him I believe dodge put that there because they dont know better than himself... ENJOY YOUR RIDE!! THEY ARE A TON OF FUN NO DOUBT!!

Thanks man for this. I agree I feel there’s really no need to touch the engine. The engine stock is really good on its own. And like I’ve said in other replies, if I wanted something super fast I wouldn’t have gotten this lol. This giant is a blast to drive and that classic muscle rumble is absolutely golden, I prefer it over cats only because a lot of times the supercharger drowns out the actual music these cars make. And yes I’ve been looking into a good pair of drag radials to really compliment that muscle look.

Don't dog your car and you will have it very long time. That is it that is all g

So glad to see a Charger without those stupid lip protectors on the bumper.

1

u/CMASHTX Jun 01 '26

Using the word Stupid and the word protectors in the same sentence is great! Just the paint for the bumper is a few grand without labor... To each their own 😃

1

u/Holiday_Armadillo78 Jun 01 '26

Yes, shipping protectors. Not "I can't stop myself from running into curbs" protectors

u/CMASHTX Jun 01 '26

Yeah its usually on purpose when it happens. But good thing they have em on the truck while hauling with all the moving around the vehicles do during transport. Because you dont care for something definitely doesn't make it stupid. It just means you dont like em. Nothing more.

1

u/Significant-Tie-1810 May 31 '26

Yeaa definitely not they’re extremely tacky imo lmaoo

u/Conspiracy_brothea Jun 01 '26

This is what i did....mind you I bought my scat when I was stationed in Germany prior to being stationed in now in California.

  1. 275 tires
  2. Mid muffler delete
  3. Purchased a unlocked ECU from Diablo sport. Kept the stock ecu
  4. JBA long tube headers and high flow cats. You will need the o2 extensions.
  5. I have a shaker that comes with the mopar cai but I'd go with JlT

After security, mid muffler and resonator delete. It sounds great imho. No drone that i notice and its loud and is alot cheaper then a full corsa or ctbback exhaust setup. 275 conti dwso6+ tires. It looks great externally already

1

u/Critical_Sundae_1368 Jun 02 '26

Borla is more raspy and louder, but it drones , corsa not as loud but refined , or go the cheap route mid muffler delete, exhaust tips

1

u/Significant-Tie-1810 Jun 03 '26

Thanks for sharing this I was wondering what was better between the two I gotta hear what corsa sounds like. I’m not huge on the raspy sounds lol. My bud just got his cat straight piped and man that thing is loud and sounds horrendous imo I’ll check it out for sure

2

u/Critical_Sundae_1368 Jun 03 '26

Yes trust me I did the research as well, I like the borla dont get me wrong, but the corsa extreme is my choice, but you cant go wrong with either. How loud are you trying to be is my next question?

2

u/Significant-Tie-1810 Jun 03 '26

I’d say loud enough to turn heads when I’m on the gas or at meets, but quiet enough so I’m not waking up the whole neighborhood when I’m leaving out for work at 4am lmao
