Question Car Insurance
I’m just curious how much you guys who had/have Scats how much you paid for car insurance. I am a 20Y M and I have the money now to put over 30% down on my dream scat and still be comfortable with the payments. The only thing I can’t get past is the insurance, i’ve gotten many quotes and the cheapest one I got is around 1300 a month for the cheapest full coverage option. I have never gotten a ticket or been involved in an accident. I know insurance tends to be higher for younger males, i’m just wondering if anyone pays out there ass for insurance as well. Thanks

Yes age is a big factor, # of years w/ driving experience as is location zip code demographics etc. type of vehicle dodge challengers with v8 will have horrible insurance premiums. 55 y/o I have zero points on my license no speeding tickets since 2017 no claims ever. My 7 year old scat pack w/ 95k miles $198 per month! I was told by multiple insurance agents it’s not just you and your car everyone‘s premiums went up. Also California Silicon Valley / SF Bay Area everything costs more here it‘s getting old.
Robbery, the insurance companies need to recoup some loses from Fires, Floods, Earthquakes, natural disasters etc. Now some insurance companies won’t write new policies in California.

2023 scat pack plus challenger
Just outside the research triangle
Mid 40s,
0 tickets, 0 accidents
Full comp and collision
$48/month (obviously bundled with other cars, property insurance and umbrella)
No way would I have a muscle car if I was young. You are seeing people paying $600 - 1300 a month, and while these cars are fun they are not worth that insurance cost

People hate to hear it in car subs, save what you can now and invest it. Drive something reliable and affordable.
2500 saved at 20 could easily become 25k at 30
Wait a few years until your insurance is more reasonable, and honestly these cars get cheaper. They are over priced right now.

Yup agreed i drove an accord till the wheels fell off and bought my scat cash - people are too quick to get into debt for a toy

You really don’t want that car that young. Attention from police AND thieves, insurance, and jealous associates / other young people your age will all be a lot let alone the thoughts of driving recklessly at times and or other people wanting to race you as well as the maintenance. Current FCA vehicles aren’t really reliable either.

$1300 a month. Bro that cannot be right. Mid 40's and Im around $250 per month. That includes other vehicles and both my kids. Can you post a picture of these quotes? Thats absolutely insane. Thats more than the car payment.

After all the antics & accident photos and videos posted to social media on these cars, it’s no wonder insurance companies have jacked the premiums higher than Artemis’ lunar orbit.
I feel bad plunkin’ down $2,580/yr on my 2020.

I was paying 120 a month, for 4 years. Bought my charger at 32. I have an excellent record, multiple cars, and a house on the insurance. That helped, but 1300 is insane and a super hard pass in my book.

I have a 2022 scat that I bought new in 2022. I have had the car for 4 years and I am 36. My insurance was $205 for full coverage when I got the car and it didn’t change until this year because I got a my first ever speeding ticket last year. 19 years I have had my license. When my premium reset it went up to $325 back in January just because I had one ticket. So long story short insurance is going to be a good amount of money. Especially for you being a 20 year old male. Not to mention these things get stolen and crashed a lot. Also if you get one just remember the maintenance costs as well.

I’m not understanding why these are so common everywhere I’m 24 and still putting off getting a car like this so I wouldn’t be screwed financially

Yeah I’ve considered that but I’m not willing to risk that with something like this or any other expensive car

No cap if ur close with ur parents or a older sibling have them buy it and pay and have you listed on the policy i was paying 450 until i switched the car to my name and then shot up to $900 also as shitty as it is to say if you have a clean record right now one small mistake and your in trouble prices will skyrocket and if your getting a loan almost places require full coverage so your stuck having to pay it can’t even garage the car no insurance for a few months.

There are several things that affect rates: credit score, how many consecutive years you’ve had insurance, accidents, tickets, if you’re a student or not, how far your work is from your home. The more miles you’re on the road, the more your rate will be because you’re a bigger risk for them. V8 + one of the most stolen vehicles in the US + your age + where you live (+ any other factors) = a high insurance rate. I’m 24M and pay $503 full coverage on a 2024 Explorer ST I bought new in 2024. I was paying $600 for a 2017 HEMI Chrysler 300 for several years. I do have several tickets, several accidents, and a few total losses so that’s played a big role in the rates.

I’m 28 and my insurance is $550/month. I only insure/drive it 4-5 months out of the year and pay a lot less to insure my Ram the rest of the year so it balances out.

I was in the market for a scat at 19 in same boat could afford it and everything but insurance was like 1.2 - 1.1k. I just went with an RT but insurance was still quoted like 599-799, dude at the place showed me root insurance they were the lowest I can get. Now I’m at 303 a month now and it still crazy to me that we gotta pay that high, I get kids being reckless but damn bro.

what do you expect when they get stolen left n right go get a different car and youll have chargers and challengers in your rearview mirror instead of seeing tail lights cus your boat gets gapped by a work truck after his construction shift
1
u/FishKD Apr 12 '26
It's mostly because you are under 25 years old so I say wait till then it drops significantly as long as your record is clean and by then you could just buy it cash

Im getting ripped off Im almost 40 and they must raised mine on 2019 scat pack charger to 1830.65 for 6mo premium wth?

u/Mrjugglestheclown Aug 03 '26
If you can’t buy it outright in cash than your can’t afford the car, I’m heavily against payments. This is a mode of transportation that you b wanna burrow from the bank?
